Unhappy Acura TL Type S 2007 176k miles Should I buy at 6.8k???

I have a budget of 5k but I really like how this Acura TL Type S looks and I can prolly ask my dad for 1.8k and pay him later, the other option I have is an acura tl 2006 at $4000.

this is the type s: https://i.imgur.com/V98Gr78.png

this is the regular 2006 https://i.imgur.com/XujJfXr.png

04-06 A/T TL's have tranny issues. I've known 4 people locally to me that have had to have theirs replaced. 07-08 they fixed the issue. I would go Type-S over base too...

I can't see the pics at work, so I can't tell which one is cleaner.

How many miles is on the base?

What kind of maintenance was done for 2k?

Any service records/ receipts for either?

176k on the Type S, he hasnt responded to what issues he fixed,

99k miles on the base model

4k for the base 2006
6.8k for the Type S

I can prolly get a 2007 base for 4.5k or so if I keep looking but I do really like how the Type S looks , it is a 2.6k increase in price tho, tryin to justify it.

So FYI that base is at 99k, if you do decide to jump on that one, you will need to do the 105k which is only 6k miles away.

07-08 Base isn't bad.

IMO Type-S 6MT, 04-06 6 MT, Type S A/T, 07-08 base

Can I make the 07 base at least look like the Type S on the outside with just rims and back lights? lol

Is that 07 Type S a good deal tho? or it can be better and keep looking?

Type S from an exterior stand point.

Wheels
Exhaust is quads
bumpers are different
Tail lights are different
Suspension might be different (?)

I can't comment on the car since work blocks Imgur photos.

Also, keep in mind the 06 TL is going to need the 105k maintenance soon if it hasn't been done already - so its almost $1k for that.

both of the base model TL's appear to be the Mexican models. I'd stick with the Type S. That's a killer deal.

Both ads for the base models are written in a language that isn't murrica...so I made some assumptions.
very hard working cars though, presumably.

Texas title come in blue color but that does not mean anything and here is why.

Texas issue title in blue however rebuilt title can also come in blue,

Branded, bond, salvage etc.... title come in pink however once the repair is completed and pass road worthiness the state will take the pink title and issue new title with blue color however they will have "rebuilt" written on it. If the seller want to be clear he/she should listed "clear blue" title.

Have you checked over the car? (Guessing not)

You can go and look at it. It doesn't hurt to go see the condition and see if you can get him to come down on it.

Ask him if he has any receipts, did he take it to the dealer or a mechanic etc.

Have you ran a CarFax, I know CarFax doesn't show everything. But it still doesn't hurt to run one.

Get the car to 60mph+ and then you can rest assured. Nothing worse than chasing shakes and vibrations.

So why is he selling? How is it "a 1 owner" yet he did the 105k service when he "got it". When did he "get" the car?

I'd say proceed with caution on this one; definitely bring someone with solid car background that can assess this thing not just worry about tranny. Too many clues that dont tie well together. The biggest concern is he noted Blue Title in ad.

I have heard that in the majority of states, a Blue Title is a salvage vehicle title. It means the car has been in a major accident, fire or flood. I never owned one so cant confirm this is the case in VA or any where else.

Good luck, I feel there is a back story here bro, and not sure how legit he is!

lets see what he responds.

Thanks all for the help, really appretiate it.

I might go take a look at it this weekend.

You don't have to ask him if you can run the CarFax. Just ask him for the Vin so you can run the CarFax.

If you go and look at it, do some highway driving as well.

I would regardless of what he says if its not too far away. The more seat time you can get in these things the better off you will be so you can spot a terd when you see it. To me the search for the right car was the most fun.

I just dont see how he can claim its a 1 owner in the ad then tell you he's the second owner.

Good luck! Keep us updated.

If I was in the market today and trying to decide between a base and an S, I would definitely pay extra for the S- all things else being relatively the same- maintenance, clean title history, condition, etc.

OP - I would seriously recommend this option if neither you or your friend has any history of TL's.

170k on the clock for 6.5k is way too much. i'd just save a little more and get something under 100k preferably. at 170k you're not too far away from the next timing belt and a 200k mileage car is going to have some issues down the road--granted some ppl on here have 250k+

my TL has about 200k, right now im staring at water pump, timing belt, intake manifold gasket, oil pump/rear main seal. --about $2k+ and im looking at a new car instead LOL.
