Acura TL Cracked Dashboards In the News - Please Read & Respond

All About Trance
I have been using Lexol on my dash since I had gotten my car in June of 2005. I don't have a garage so it sits out in the sun all the time except for when I'm at work. I've recently switched to 303 Aerospace and my dash is still holding up fine.

Finally...
I just called the corp office, and filed a case. The max i've seen people get covered is about 80% so hopefully. With all the complaints out there getting noticed. Acura honors it by covering 100% because this is really ridiculous. My cars been through 2 transmission swaps and about to go on a 3rd one. Now a cracked dashboard?
I bought a TL as my first car because i've been wanting it for the past 4 years. When i finally get the car it self. Just takes a year for it to break down on me being certified with an extended warranty.
the customer service from acura is just horrible next to the quality of the 04-05. Having known this i would've gotten a 06 + ..

If you go to the dealer for your work like oil changes and show them your loyalty as a customer, they will show their loyalty as a company. Yes it might cost you 100 dollars extra over the course of a year on random stuff but it may save you quite a bit in the long run.
Acura and Honda have been great to me and that is precisely why I bought a Honda Accord with little to no cross-shopping. I could have spent less on a camry or gotten a slightly better "bang for the buck" with another company, but honda has stood behind their product when they didn't have to and spending a bit more money for that assurance is well worth it in my book.

I got 100% coverage and only had to pay to have my ipod adapter re-installed since they had to run the wires again (100 dollars). Acura replaced my transmission out of warranty with it having 104K on it with me jut paying shipping and tax for the new one.

Yeah the new dash is fine minus the airbag outline on the passenger side. Just another lovely trait of the 3G dash

yep, 100 dollars on the dash for the ipod kit and then the transmission was shipping and tax! You can't beat that type of customer service when a car has 105K on it. In all honesty if you talk to the folks at your dealership calmly and at honda calmly the will try to help you. I've seen a guy walk into a dealer DEMANDING a new dash and they turned him away. In all honesty I would have done the same in turning him away. If you talk calmly and nicely your more apt to get help than a person demanding it.

I just called Acura about my dashboard cracks after reading everyone else's posts. They told me to go to a dealer and have them check out the dash and if I'm not satisfied with what I am told, call them back. I am hoping this will be good news. I have my 2004 tl for 7 years and I am not ready to get rid of it. I will keep you updated after my visit to the dealership. Thank you for all the great information!!

They only lowered it to $409. I just got constantly told that the car was over 50,000 miles out of warranty, and this my only first Acura so acura wouldn't really do all they can for me.
But it's really not fair to the whole consumer base that they give random coverage of their choosing instead of a fixed one.
If you could get yours replaced for $100 it's not fair for all the people that can't. Is also one thing i pointed out to them. It's ridiculous.

It is ridiculous - I had a POS 97 Cheverolet that I had bought in Grad school that I kept for almost 10 years & it had not a single defect in the dash pad. And Acura is supposed to be a "premium brand"...?

I picked up my car yesterday from Fountain Acura in Orlando with a new dash installed for $322 (75% good will discount). There is a 1 year 12k mile warranty on the dash. It took less than 4 days to get it fixed after I called Acura corp and complained about the cracks over the air bag. This worked for me fellas, give it a try.

You can add 08 TL to the list. I bought my TL used from an Acura dealer and noticed that the dash has the outline of the air bag. I guess the previous owner did not care much for the dash. I treat it with 303 at least once a month, but I can still see the outline. I think I'll try going to the dealer since I am still under warranty.

the overexplainer
Airbag outline doesnt equal a cracked dash. The outline is pretty much normal and to be expected. 303 will help but wont solve the issue.\
04 here with an outline on the right side of the airbag, no cracks *knock on wood*

Wow the crack on the passenger side in the picture above me is pretty bad. Mine started to crack about a year ago and is just getting worse. I joined the Facebook group and filed a safety complaint. Lets get a recall going here!!

Cracks just formed on my 2005 TL a couple of weeks ago. The same exact cracks, one on the driver side and another on the passenger side over the airbags. I'm currently having the tranny replaced, but I'm going to call Acura after about the dash.

Yeah this has gone on long enough. I had to have mine switched out when I bought mine used last year. 2005 TL with 28000 miles and a huge cracked dashboard. The dealer wanted to sell it as is and have me pay for the dash but no way was that happening. They switched it out for me after telling them I was going to walk, I just hope it lasts now.

My dash is still perfect *knock on wood* but it still frustrates me to see that my favorite brand is not taking ownership for a defect in their product. Even if they do end up covering it eventually it still disappoints me to see that this was not addressed more promptly. While it is great for the few that have had it replaced without having to pay anything I think that making others pay various amounts to fix the problem is not right, this is inconsistent and one Acura owner shouldn't receive better treatment than another everyone should be equal.

Supposedly the dashboards for the 07-08 models are less susceptible to cracking. Not sure what they did to change it though.

I just made a complaint here> https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/ In the section for comments I put in this small comment:
"My dash is cracking at a accelerated rate. First at the passenger airbag, now over driver side. My concern is if the dash is dry enough to split along the airbag seams, then what would prevent shards of dash flying off if the airbag deploys? The should get some serious safety considerations."
I believe that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) needs to get involved with this as a safety issue. If it's dry enough to crack, then is it dry enough to break??

I also have a cracked dash AND SRS warning light issues. I dropped my car off at Mac Churchill Acura in Ft. Worth last week for both issues. They were nice but couldn't do a thing about the dash. They replaced both seat belt sensors. I went to pick the car up and found that now the SRS warning light was still on! This was actually different than my previous issue. Before it came on after driving a few miles. Now it was on from the get go. So there must be ANOTHER problem with the system. Possibly related to the cracked dash?? At any rate, I didn't take my car home.
Update: I picked my car up with the SRS light fixed. They of course said it was unrelated. I received a phone call from Acura and they offered to replace my dash for the low cost of $1,050. I did not accept as I shouldn't have to pay a $1,000 to fix and issue that is Acura's fault. I am currently planning to contact a lawyer. I am researching class action lawsuits right now.

I'm still researching lawyers and class action lawsuits. In the meantime, you can do what I am doing. I have been posting this issue all over the net and most importantly, the Facebook Group for this issue! I am working on getting everyone organized and that seems to be a good central location instead of trying to keep up with all the various threads on various forums.
If you do nothing else, post something today on Acura's facebook page! They have over 127,800 fans! That's a HUGE audiance that we need to take advantage of. If we all start posting about this Acura WILL fix the issue for us. Just look at Toyota with their stuck throttle issue. Acura doesn't need that kind of bad publicity. We just have to be a thorn in their side that they want to get rid of. So post on their FB page. Also, sign up for twitter and post on the Acura page there.
If you want to do more as I am, contact your local news agencies. I'm working on them as well as the national ones such as CNN. Let's make this think go viral and OCCUPY ACURA!!!

11 cracks on 2004 TL with 95k, bought in FL. Acura refused to help.
Add mine to the list. This sucks. I tried through the dealership, the district/regional Acura representative, and through Acura Client Care. No dice.
Factors: I am not the original owner. The process you have to go through if you want to try to get Acura assistance is to take it to a dealer, and have them contact the district/regional corporate Acura representative who makes goodwill assistance decisions on a case by case basis. Factors include whether you're the original owner, age and mileage of the car, whether you've serviced the car at the Acura dealership, whether you've purchased other Acuras, and the mood/personality of your particular representative. I tried to appeal this decision by contacting Acura Client Care, but they said they "stood by the decision of the district representative." Disappointing that Acura didn't do the right thing here, since clearly this was a defect in materials, despite that the car is out of warranty.
