Both company aims at value and all-around performance product. what do u guys think???

PS: it's just a random thought..please don't start a big argument..i don't mean to say anything serious

dont take acuras level as low as AMD. OMG thats a insult!

AMD is a over heating cpu thats slow, and hires their scientists to spy at intel.

i hate AMD.

Intel = overpriced CPU's :enforcer:

I paid $93 bucks for an overclocked AMD processor that's equivalent to a $400 Intel 3.0 GHz chip!

HENCE THE WORD Overclocked, meaning the chip was not made to run at the speed, I know it doesn't make a difference but this is where the heating issues that NICK79 mention come in..

I have to admit AMD has beat Intel at similar Speeds and gotten better benchmarks, but I would still buy a Intel, just because Intel is original, if u look at AMD, they are always just trying to catchup to there competitors, and when they do they release bigger better things, this reminds me of ACURA

so if we compare by price and performance

the fastest XP offers is a XP3200 (running at 2.2gig) which is as fast as a 2.5 gig pentium 4.

the xp3200 costs $438 bucks
while the same performance intel chip costs $164 bucks

taken from pricewatch.com and benchmarks from tomshardware.com in comparing performance.

ok calm down, Nick79, i am not saying amd is the best, thats why i'm comparing it to acura, both have great values and good point, both have new products out in the coming month, both are good value, but can never be the top.

Yes, please take your own advice!

If you're talking about pure GAMING performance, the P4 beats the XP hands down. But in OVERALL performance (gaming and general usage), a 3.2 GHz AMD chip is roughly equivalent to a 3.0 GHz Intel chip. Reviews from anandtech.com, hardocp.com and other review sites (BTW, I hate Tomshardware) will explain this to you.

When I was looking for a new CPU about five months ago, it was obvious that the AMD XP processors had the best bang-for-your-buck, especially if you knew how to overclock them correctly. At that time, I bought an XP 2400 for $93 bucks (now $78) that's overclocked to XP 3200 speeds. I will admit that AMD is stretching it when it says that an XP 3200 is equivalent to a P4 3.2 GHz chip, especially now that Intel has the 800MHz front side bus setups. If I was to buy a CPU today, the decision would be more difficult, primarily due to the 800MHz FSB chips and their compatible motherboards. But I will still stick to what I eluded to say in my previous post in that the XP's are the best price for performance chips on the market. No one can argue that, not even you Nick79.

So if we're talking about gaming performance, you are right in that Intel has the best gaming chips on the market today. The problem is that you'll have to pay a lot of money for it. It may not be a factor for you but I want to get my money's worth. That's why I have a TL!

I'm the same. I stopped upgrading when I bought my Athlon 1.4.

All I do is surf, post, email, administer remote systems - etc. No gaming, really.

With the money saved I bought a cr@pload of scuba equipment!

lol damn i didnt mean to offense you sorry..

now i dont care about all that benchmark **** cuz i dont play games on my computer. the only things i do is photoshop, internet, and a bit, very little bit of video editing and i really dont need a overpriced intel cpu.

i swear i saved about 500$ by buyin' a AMD cpu cuz the motherboard was a lot more expensive, so was the cpu.. oh btw this was like 2 years ago.

anyway i hate computers:

1. they are always ****ed up
2. you pay 400$ for some hardware crap, then the next month it's like 70$.
3. i just hate comps. LOL :p

but there are also good sides:
1. Internet (read PORN )
2. acura-tl.com
3. lots of songs

wel that's it, peace out guys

Nick79,

Check out the following link at www.anandtech.com

http://www.anandtech.com/cpu/showdoc.html?i=1834&p=6

This just goes to show you that one type of benchmark will say one thing while another may provide completely different results. Some benchmarks tend to perform better on certain machines than in others. Take the Quake 3 benchmark, for example. It's widely known that Intel chips perform much better on it than AMD but benchmarks of other games may show that AMD leads. The same goes for the perpetual fight between Nvidia and ATI graphics cards. All companies involved try to make their chips look the best when, in most cases, they are pretty much evenly matched. As one processor is released and claims victory, the competition releases their processor a few months later to retake the crown........it just never ends.

So for the time being, I'm going to stick with AMD for awhile. I'll definitely consider Intel the next go around, but I can remember several years ago when they didn't have any competition and demanded "Rolls-Royce" prices for their CPU's. (I still can't believe I paid over a grand for one of their chips in the early 90's)

Oh, as for Tomshardware, a few years ago Tom Pabst (the creator of the site) was talking trash about the owner of Hardocp.com (Kyle Bennet). I don't know Tom personally, but it looked like he was being an @ss about the whole thing. With that and some complaints that he was biased in his reviews led me away from visiting his site. But to be totally honest, just about every reviewer on the net has been accused of biased reports.

One person that I have the utmost respect for is Anand Shimpi from www.anandtech.com. It's very rare that you ever hear anything bad about his work (Most of the bad stuff just comes from jealous competition). If anyone wants to read a detailed description of computer hardware with an unbiased viewpoint, then Anandtech is the place to be.

Well, no more discussions about this from me. I'm surprised that this thread hasn't been locked yet. Isn't this forum about some car that's coming out this year? :toothless

i think the fight was over a 1.13 GHz Pentium III sample.
tomshardware was critized for saying that it wa sunsable and everything and hardwarecentral email them a nasty letter saying they are biased and blah blah.

they actually posted the letter.

also anandtech and tomshardware.com are pretty good frineds i think. as of a article in august 2000, they refer to eachother as good collegues.

anyway. if amd was not around intel would ride their prices very high. i do admit it.

pentium 5 is next !

I guess thats the end of this forum.

Comparing something people are very passionate about to something which people are equally passionate about is never a good thing

But this is not even close to being on topic (3rd gen) anymore so.. I will buy whatever hardware is the best deal at the time. I had a Celeron 300A (@450) at one time cause that was the best deal out there, now I have an AMD 1800+ and I will probably get a 2600+/333 soon simply because it is cheaper than getting an all new motherboard and cpu/heatsink. But P4 had a lot of rough times to start, especially with the rambus situation. That helped AMD a lot, and having competition has help ALL of us a lot. I would have to say that right now Pentium is the fastest 32bit only chip, and for the top end model it is even a better deal. But the technology of Athlon is impressive to me. That's a 2.2Ghz chip competing very well with 3Ghz+. The 64bit ones also look nice but the whole speed naming thing is a messy situation.

Just take a look at what most SERVER's in the industry are running. Intel all the way.....

And if you want to quote Anandtech, here you go:

"At high clock speeds, there's no denying that the Pentium 4 is the processor to have..."

Amd just very recently entered Server market..
I own Intel 2.66 myself, after 2 AMDs, since it was faster and ran cooler.. I buy what is best on the market @ the time.. Intel happen to be better now..
In 2-3 months Athlon64 coming out, the war will begin again...
.09 micron processors from Intel coming soon also..

Why couldnt Acura make this rear wheel drive car? It's almost flawless, but I bet it will loose to 330 and G35 is sportiness... Just like Maxima is being flamed all over for engine overpowering (read torque steer) the car...

no1 who owns a server would dare put amd in it period.

but amd64 will kick ass.

and pentium 5 will kick ass .

i just put intel get their act together on their 64bit chip.

also without compeition intel would kill us with prices so thats one thing thats good about having amd which i hate

i dont think acura is to worried beating G35 in sportiness otherwise they would act more agressive. i do think they are doing this to save cost of keeping the engine and also to plan out their next upgrade which i think will be sick i cant wait for the 2008, woohoo. go acura

AMDs are perfect processers for every use, even for regular gaming. I've tested an AMD and a Intel a couple times, for little things it makes no difference. For big things it does. I needed to run simulations that take up 100% CPU power, 3 days on Intel Pentium 1ghz and 5 days on AMD 1ghz. Dvd RIpping, also... there are noticeable differences for cpu intensive processes. For the internet and chatting, save ur money and go with AMD.
