Acura Goodwill Dash Repair

Hey everyone, I was just kind of wanting some opinions on this. My 2008 TL Type-S finally had a crack go straight down the middle of the dash the other day. I took it to my local Acura dealer and Acura corporate and my dealer are willing to pay 75% the cost of replacing the dash parts and the labor. So my total would be $684. I’m trying to decide if it’s a good decision to do it. I know It’ll eventually crack again but I’m hoping that will be on the next owner i it’ll eventually crack again but I’m hoping that would be on the next owner and not on me for a second time. I’m kind of leaning towards doing it just because I know it’ll drive me nuts seeing a bunch of cracks all over the dash. Just wanted to hear some opinions on maybe some people of had it done if it cracked again immediately or not.

how long you planning to keep the car? if you gona sell in couple year don't worry about it. If you gona keep 5 years or more then I would say yes. $684 isn't bad consider the dash already cost close to $600.

That's a heck of an offer for a 10 year old car. I'm surprised they're still doing it.

that probably the car has extensive service with the dealer during previous ownership, I highly doubt that you will get any help if your record pull up as "oil change" lol.

I live in South Florida and my car was originally from North Florida. I just buy pretty much all of my parts there because I get it super super super cheap from Delray Acura’s website. The only history they really have is me buying the parts for the car there. Like I mean almost all of my parts, filters, shocks, trim pieces, (hopefully Aspec kit soon). I plan on keeping the car at least another three years.

i just replaced mine over this past week. I took out a dashboard and the long metal bar attached to it from a junkyard for 50 dollars. It was my first time taking out one for an Acura it took me about 5 hours and this was without the service manual. I took the damaged dashboard out of my Acura about 2 days ago and it took me about 3-4 hours. If you have the time you can save yourself a lot of money. It really isn't as bad as many people think it is. I think if i had help i would be able to have completed it within 2-3 hrs tops.

its basically you file a claim with Acura client relation, they ask you mileage and how long you had the car for (then can see how many time the car got services in Acura dealer), then tell you to take to your local Acura dealer for further investigation.

If its crack the dealer obviously recommend replace it (only if your vehicle has a long service history with them) the dealer will put a good words for you to get some coverage (its latterly depend on how the dealer report back to AHMC) then the cooperate will issue you a coverage split the cost between you and dealer.

Don't expect Acura will be giving out good will if your car has less than 10 dealer services and they are all "oil change".

IMO: For $684, unless your willing to do it yourself, that's a really good price. I wouldn't go through the headache of replacing it myself, for that price!

Thanks for the thoughts guys. I’m going to do it, I figure if I don’t it’s just going to get worse and worse and then they’re not going to pay any of it if it’s not this time.

I live in South Florida as well so I know what you deal with when it gets hot outside. Get yourself some window visors (I have a set of HIC USA ones for sale) to be able to crack the windows to ventilate the heat out of the car and also a good windshield sunscreen. Covercraft sells good quality ones for around $50-$60. The model specific for our cars is the UVS100. I have a 2008 and still crack free so I'm guessing I'm doing something right!!!

Well I tried to do the same thing but was denied.
I called Acura Client Relations to file a claim.
Went to the dealer to have them take pics and inspect, spoke with the service manager about my expectations.
The District manager was actually going to be at that dealership the next business day.
The service manager called my yesterday saying that the district manager declined my request due to the age of the vehicle. $0 help.
2005 Acura TL I've had since 2011 and all repairs were done at the local Acura dealer. Timing belt, oil changes, a/c work, headlights, compliance bushings, etc.

I would definitely recommend you call Acura client services again. I would get a supervisor to speak with you and make sure they know how much you’ve spent on your car to keep it up to Acura’s standards. If they don’t do anything for them I would just let them know you’ll be letting everyone know about the lack of support from them on social media like Acura’s Facebook page or twitter or something along those lines

I'll bite my tongue publicly about what I paid to have mine swapped in my 2004...
I do believe they are ok going through the heat cycles of SoFla sun a certain number of times and you can prolong it by doing the visors and sun shade and keeping the overall ambient temp down...
That said, I started seeing the outline of the airbag on my replacement dash within a year...I actually preferred having the dash cover on, suede with custom inserted tweeters...at least that kept my dash PTSD at bay.
