AC compressor not turning on - looking for insights

Hello gurus. My ‘04 TL with 178k miles did not blow any cold air the first time i turned on the AC the other day ( after not turning it on all winter). I also noticed that the click / faint ‘woosh’ sound doesn’t happen when i push the AC button on. Does that mean the compressor needs to be replaced or does the compressor cut off / not activate if the Freon is super low / empty. Obviously hoping for the latter as a compressor replacement seems costly. The fan blows just fine. Thank you!

It could be low on freon or the clutch is bad.

Yes. There's a low pressure switch in the system which disables the compressor if system pressure is too low.

As mentioned, the culprits may include low freon, bad compressor clutch, bad AC associated relays, or bad pressure switch.
You can jump the clutch relay to check the compressor clutch.

Following this so far. My compressor clutch seems to engage and so the relay is fine. But there is no cold air. I checked the coolant level and the refill bottle goes to red and tells me consult a technician. I can tell the compressor engages because of an increase in RPM when AC is turned on. Any ideas here? Thanks!

Should see what the pressures are before trying to add refrigerant. Heater control valve working properly/off so as no hot water
into the heater core?

How do you check the heater control valve?

if pressures are in the red you may have a clogged a/c line or debris caught in the evap/condensor or txv valve...
