6MT Axle Replacement w/GSP CV Shafts vs. Raxles
Ok, here is the story. I have a 2006 6MT where both axles were leaking and needed to be replaced (sadly at only 75K). I read a bunch on all of the brands and most were hit and miss except for Raxles, which I went with because everyone loved them and I agree. I could only get the left done by them because they had a core there for the driver side and they are super nice axles. I kept putting off the passenger side because Marty said they didn't have a core which wasn't surprising because I know they are hard to find for 6MT passenger sides. He was super nice and said as soon as he receives my old core, he would return it the same day. Well, from KS to FL in 3 days was at least $45, so it would take about 9-10 days total including the weekend. I just figured I'd throw a cheap $70 (with coupon code) GSP axle from Advance in and just send off the core to Raxles if needed. So far so good. No shuddering or vibration so far and I tried it all. So believe me, Raxles is worth the money but the GSP has been surprisingly good....so far.

i replaced my oems with API (autopart international) axles 3 months ago. cant say enough bad things about them. one EXPLODED a week ago and i had to tow it back to my shop. now the one they replaced it with vibrates. gonna be time to pay for some GOOD axles soon. good to know the ones from advance are pretty decent.

Yes that is the correct one. They are very hard to find in store, but I was lucky when I clicked "pick up" there was only one. Use the 30% off coupon and add the cheapest thing on the website you can find to push the order over $100. I think I added a car sponge for $1.50 that I didn't even up pick up. I think the coupon was ESH30 or something close and I think I found it on Acurazine actually. Just Google it...

...but again if you can be without your right side 6MT axle for awhile then sending into Raxles would be best, they are works of art and in America with a lifetime warranty.

When my '05 was having axle problems, I had my passenger side replaced with the GSP one, but I don't remember it being that much when I had gotten it. Price must've gone up in a couple of years. I also had my driver's side rebuilt since it was hard to find aftermarket ones.

I wouldn't seeing as these things are hit and miss. Just order online from Advance so there is at least a return policy. I'm not keen buying on ebay when it is something that I could potentially return.

replaced with OEM (both sides) at 50k. started going bad at 42k mi. no problems.
didn't want the hassle of the possibility of aftermarket axles going bad after a year...so yes, i paid a premium. well my insurance did (breakdown insurance coverage).

geico. MBI coverage. can only add to your policy IF the car is brand new and within 15 months or 12k mi. ends up being about $30-40 every 6 mos. good for 100K mi or 7 years whichever comes first. there is a $250 deductible for each repair. essentially bumper to bumper coverage for the "mechanical" parts of your car. shocks, drivetrain, tranny, non wear and tear type items. the rattles....sorry not likely to be covered.

Just updating this thread, I contacted Advanced Auto regarding out-of-state warranty replacements for axles ordered on their site. Here's their response:
Looks like once we determine that the part is defective we can go ahead and either buy another off their site or from another place and get a refund if we send them the receipt for the new part. I'm assuming they'll refund the full cost of their axle (the replacement you bought may be more expensive, depending).
Good news for those socal people looking for a cheaper alternative to OE that seem to work fine.
edit2: looks like the passenger side axle for MT is not on their site anymore

inner CV= steering shudder or vibration under acceleration at low speeds (20-40 mph), can also be felt through floor board as well).
i've had both...outer on one side, inner on the other...both axles replaced at 50k mi (both started going bad at 42kmi). no more issues at this time.

I just ordered the MT pass side GSP axle from Advance Auto for $74 with two coupon codes: FERP (exp feb 4) and CCABIN ($40 off $100). Decided to pick up 6 new NGK plugs as well (came out to $40 for 6).
Debating on attempting to do it myself. Still need to pick up that ball joint tool, mallet, new spindle nut and some cotter pins.
Now to get rid of that darn clicking when turning. It's not completely broken yet, but the boot is torn and it is binding (clicking).

I got about 3,000mi off the clicking CV before it snapped.
The irony was that I had just ordered the new axle from hondapartsunlimited ($167) two days before mine snapped.
Good luck.

Do it yourself! It is easy but might take an hour or two if you haven't done it before. It comes with a new spindle nut anyway.... and cotter pins, well, I used the old one. I know some people say that is dangerous but I know plenty of pro mechanics that do it as well. I just wouldn't use them a third time.
