50,000 service due *suggestions*

Alright guys, so I just went into the acura dealership the other day to get an oil change and I had alot of maintianence to do. I pushed off all these maintainence for later

so here it is
Replace Front Brake pads and Resurface rotors (SOON) EST. $481.00 w/Tax
Now I know that my brake pads are at 3mm and they are suppose to be at 9 a believe, if it goes down to 2mm they said that it may cause my rotors to damage.

Replace dirty engine air filter and cabin air filter EST. $125.00 w/Tax

Replace dirty automatic transmission fluid EST. $240.00 w/Tax

Replace overdue power steering system fluid EST. $116.00 w/ TAx

Replace brake system fluid EST $ 110.00

Alignment adjustment EST $70.00

adding all this up is approx. $1,100 ... Now it doesn't seem to bad cause its a dealership and they are jacking up the labor price.

I called up my friend who is a car mechanic and i told him all about this. He told me to purchase all transmission fluid which is Honda ATFZ1 Fluid 6-7 quartz, brake pads, and all the air filters and he can Do everything for around 100 dollars.. He said he has all the other fluids

So I am debating on if I should go to the dealership or go to my friend, he would save me about one grand

What would you do?

For brake pads, try CMAX Gold from Autozone. They feel and perform like OEM but with much less brake dust. They are a ceramic pad with a life time warranty.

that explains the ATF and brembo question.....I was concerned you were going to put ATF in a manual transmission....but AHHH you have the type-s, which comes with brembos.

Change out the 3rd and 4th gear transmission pressure switches too - about 75-100 or so in parts.

If you can do the rest of this stuff, then you can change those.

They will reduce premature wear in your transmission. If you are going to go with a higher quality fluid like Redline, then the pressure switches really make a huge difference once they start to go out. It is not as noticeable with the Z1 since the shift is so soft and terrible it covers up more of the issue.

I use the CMAX too.

Take it to your buddy and save some money. I went with Redline D4, Honda power steering fluid, Honda coolant and got my air/cabin filters from Rock Auto. Forgot to mention the 3rd and 4th gear pressure sensors online from DelRay Acura.

No, service limit is 1.6mm, at which point you still will not damage your rotors, but should replace the pads. New OEM pads are 8.8-10.0 mm, extrapolation would say you have another 10-12K miles before service limit.

As long as the rotors are not grooved and not pulsating when braking, they don't need to be turned. Replacing the pads is a 30 minute job for the shop, 1-hour DIY, OEM Brembo pads can be bought on E-bay for $160 shipped, turning rotors is about $10/rotor at any brake shop...You do the math...

Replace dirty engine air filter and cabin air filter EST. $125.00 w/Tax

Total ripoff, parts are only $30 tops

Replace dirty automatic transmission fluid EST. $240.00 w/Tax

Again, can be done a lot cheaper yourself using much better fluid (Redline, mentioned in an earlier post). If you decide to go with the dealer, make sure they are doing the 3 x 3 AT flush as specified in the Acura Service News dated January 2008

Replace overdue power steering system fluid EST. $116.00 w/ TAx

FYI, There is no listed service interval for power steering fluid. This is an upsell, not required....

Replace brake system fluid EST $ 110.00

Service interval is every 3 years. Probably due...I got a brake fluid flush AND antifreeze flush done at my local Honda dealer for $98 out the door....

Alignment adjustment EST $70.00

If you haven't had it checked since new, probably not a bad idea. Price is fair, but you could go to Firestone and get a lifetime alignment deal for around $120

adding all this up is approx.

GO TO YOUR FRIEND!!!

definately do it yourself.

Don't be like my GF's dad and brought his car into the dealer and they charged him over half a grand to replace a lower radiator hose because they added on diagnostics to figure out what the problem was.

I told him it would of cost me less than 20 bucks to replace that lower radiator hose. Turn on the car, see where it leaked and replace. DONE.
