I've been lurking for a few weeks here and wanted to say hi. I've already learned a lot, have a bunch of to-do's especially the USA spec bluetooth and door puddle lights. And already got a great deal from the black market. I've always liked the TL but never had chance to own one until this month. I am very happy so far and have been looking forward to driving it, even if it means driving to work!

I'm in Bedford--I'd be interested in the occasional meet-up. With 2 kids and working in Lynchburg, I don't have a lot of time to add social activities, but I'd have to say that the 3G TL community is even more active online than the Jeep groups I used to be in. I have bolt-ons that the previous owner installed, but haven't done anything but simple maintenance since I bought my TL-S a few weeks ago.

i would have to agree with that. I was part of an Accord forum out west in San Diego and it was never as welcoming as this site is. Its exciting to chat and learn from everyone here who has taken an already great car and made them priceless. I hope you enjoy your time here as much as I have and we will have to see about getting a group together for VA TL's.

Hey,

I got a 2006 TL last March. Got a decent price. Gradually doing more DIY work, and hope to learn a bit from the good folks here.
Currently have 93K. My mechanic says I can get 200K out of it if I keep up and fluid changes and don't drive like a jackass.

BONE STOCK!!

Drove 500 miles to Michigan to steal her from a dealer. One of the closest around my area and lowest price out of any other MT Type-S's. Oh yeah, plus it's one of the few still bone stock I've been browsing around this forum for 6+ months now reading up on the magical 3G TL's and researching it. This was my first major purchase, but I can put all of that in my build thread that I'll eventually put up. Bought it with 118k on it and well maintained by the last owner. 1 day of ownership and WOW what a purchase.

That seems like a good deal. Does it have a clean, non-salvage title?
The blue book quotes don't line up with market values. Last year all the dealerships in the Seattle metro area were asking $12-14K for 3G TLs in "fair" shape at best. Obviously that's dealer markup BS, but it's a baseline.
I paid $10K last March for a 2006 with 88K miles, but had to drive 2 hours outside of town. What sold me was meeting the previous owner (woman in her 60's) who meticulously kept every service receipts in a binder, and threw in a set of snow tires.

Maintenance I've done since buying mine:
oil change
transmission fluid pressure flush/change (there are plenty of threads where we can debate this)
power steering fluid flush/change
brake fluid flush/change
Front and rear brake rotors/pads (I did this in my driveway < $250 both axels)
Installed K&N air filter (it pays for itself after 3-4 replacement filters)
Changed cabin air filter (5 minute DIY job and $8 part)
replaced hood struts

todo (next 10K):
buy all season tires after winter
4 wheel alignment
another oil change
spark plugs
auto transmission pressure switches

Seems like a good deal too that you have and is yours auto or manual? Mine is a clean title sold from a reputable Acura dealership. I was straight forward when I came in on how much I was willing to pay. 11 grand out the door or I walk.

Mine is an auto. Previous vehicle I had for 17 years was a manual. This is a short distance commuter that doubles as a backup family car (2 kids).
When driving by myself on country roads I wish I had a MT, but for dropping the kids off and rush hour traffic the AT is actually nice.

It took me a few weeks to figure out what to do with my right hand (keep your jokes to yourself). I had no idea I could enjoy a cup of coffee while driving - LOL

Okay makes sense. My brother has the automatic Acura TL type S and it's still a fun car to drive. I've owned nothing but manuals for 7 years but for the past 4 years I've had nothing but automatics. I'm definitely a stick shift driver cause I fell in love with driving all over again when I bought this car. I must say though driving this manual is way more tricky than the previous cars I've owned. Driving through rush hour traffic would be a pain 😬

Hi everyone, first time poster long time lurker!
This year was a big come up, Ive been driving a 1987 Acura Legend sedan (white on brown wool interior) 5 speed for 12 years, and what witchcraft the TL has, brakes that are anti-lock, with magical bags of air that may inflate to prevent loss of teeth? Amazing. Looking forward to being a part of the forum for many more miles to come!

I've been lurking on the forums for a bit, and finally created an account. Previously I had a pretty heavily modified Volvo S60, but found this low mileage TL-S and couldn't pass it up. I'm very happy to have a manual trans again after settling for an autotragic in the Volvo for the past 5 years.

This one is fun because the dealer somehow mirrored the pictures. Looks like a RHD car.

This one is fun because the dealer somehow mirrored the pictures. Looks like a RHD car.

I'm loving it so far. Replaces my totaled 07 grey pontiac grand prix. The car is going to stay stock, I'm focusing on keeping up with all the maintenance. Had the timing belt replaced and I did the air filters. When it gets warmer I'll do the fluids, plugs and a detail.

Some pics as promised. Please forgive the low-quality (due to my very old phone).

Thx! Yeah, the RBP is growing on me, and that tire shine is attributable to the dealer. Of course, the car's 10 years old and has its share of scratches and minor blemishes. But I've always loved the lines and design of the 3rdGen.... So, I'm a happy camper.
