I'm compassionate and could never imagine myself running someone over. But if you're forcing your will on someone who is behind the wheel of a +2 ton vehicle, you're going to have a bad time mmkay.

If you're going to disrupt the peace to get your point across.. prepare to get tossed. Not just protestors. Love my biker community, but when dbags go out in force to cause chaos, they're asking for it.

I'm not condoning road rage or violence, but what do they expect. People are often violent and erratic.

I don't know much about it, but I fundamentally don't agree with any form of unstructured protest that forces an agenda on others.

If it were a scheduled event, like a marathon, I'd have no problem with it. But it really seems like a disguised protest. I've been a cyclist most of my life.

I've had cars purposely try to run me off the road. I'm all for cyclist advocacy, but at the same time, don't be an asshole.. whether on foot, in a car, riding a motorcycle, or on a bike. Unless you bring jelly.

I'm an avid cyclist...mountain, road (mostly not, soccer mom texting and driving is scarier than a tree)...

I fucking hate critical mass and all the hipster bull fucking shit it stands for. It makes traffic, gets people hurt/killed...creates a huge divide between us vs them...puts LEO's in difficult position. For what...to prove that we can own the roads too? Sure...but do they want to get tickets for running stop signs and speeding () like a motor vehicle.

Those people don't understand physics...bike on a path...or take up another hobby. It's Darwinism at it's finest...

Now...a unscheduled urban ride with a couple a hooligans, some beers, and some stair surfing on our mountain bikes...count me in. I also don't think we'd cry like little bitches if we did so and fell off our bikes.

Morning gentlemen

Would never ever want to bike on the roads in Toronto. The ratio of morons to sane people on the road is just too damn high for it.

As for the protest thing - well, as many of you have said, the reaction is to be expected, especially if the protesters themselves react with violence. That being said, without public protest, where would we be now? Certainly living in a very different world imo. As a Ukrainian, the Maidan is the first thing that comes to mind in recent events when it comes to protests truly changing the path of a nation, we have plenty of excellent historical examples here in NA, going right back to the foundation of the USA and plenty of examples in Canada as well. Just my

Like you said Maj, it's about not being an asshole, but at the same time, it's also high time for drivers to realize that they're not the only vehicles on the road (motorcycles and bicycles have the right to be there as well). It's all about mutual respect for everyone else. Whenever I see a motorcycle lane splitting coming up behind me, I always move over to the left as much as I can to allow him to pass with ease. I always give cyclists 3+ feet when passing them going 50 miles an hour (while they're in the bike lanes). Why? Because I know when I'm on my bike, I'd appreciate the same type of respect.

Road cycling is definitely tough. I'm still recovering from a partially torn tendon in my ankle from when a car pulled out of his driveway and t-boned me because he (18 year old kid) wasn't paying attention while turning out.

Can't we all just be friends? :gheyhug:

Silly rabbit.. there's no cars in the mountains.. Just huge boulders and trees and such.

I'd be so down to go on an urban ride with a bunch of bros.

Urban is nice, but there's nothing like forest. It's just great. In the summer it's cooler, and the sound and smell of nature... it's great!

Hey I know I know. I still got my road bike, I'll try to do more of it this summer. Used to come to work with it. Have only went biking twice last summer.

I swear if you didn't have two cars and a billion bikes you'd be rich.

Can't really afford to buy so many bikes and not use them. I'll use my road bike this summer as much as I can.

Plus I still hit the gym 3 times a week, that's a hobby at that point. And a cheapish one at that.

I only buy stuff at a great deal...or build it myself for cheap!

You can find a reasonably priced hardrock or rockhopper. Specialized is my brand of choice....not top of line, but reliable and rugged for a cheap price!

Good way to make it sound like you didn't spend a little fortune on random bikes!

Anyway, like I said, I'll start by using my road bike then I'll see. If I can't deal with not going in the trails I'll get me a MTB.

For a quality bike...I don't mind paying. Once you've ridden a real bike....Walmart don't cut it That said, the only one I paid a ton for was the Stumpjumper...and even then, I got it for 1/2 off a few years lightly used. Everything else was $400 and under...

Hey I agree. In sixth grade I won a dictation writing thing at school (inb4 is polo asian questions) and got a $150 voucher for a local bike shop. I spent the $200 I had amassed then plus that voucher and got myself a nice Norco MTB with a front shock.

Got it stolen under a month from my backyard.

Nevertheless, I started building vintage bikes from parts I'd find around, banana seats and chopper handles style. At some point I had a fleet of 10 of them, all in good working order with no actual money spent. Just careful digging around and exchanging parts. It was great.

Then I don't know, at some point in life I started going less and less outside and biking except to go to work. Time flies man... wish I was still 11 and in sixth grade.

The only good thing about cheap bikes is that you can always build a bike you don't mind trashing. Had a cheap 18 speed diamond frame bike my dad bought me when I was a kid, he bought it used from our neighbor and I must have used that thing until I was 16 as an MTB... Thing was all bent by the time I stopped using it. No suspension nothing, I'm surprised it lasted that long. Got so many punctures and hit so many trees.

Hey I don't know man, if I went to Florida it would be to get the full experience. I'm too tight on cash right now for that stuff anyway. Gotta get me some summer tires and prob some cheap 18" wheels for the TL. Maybe looking for something like rockstar had in terms of looks, but for poor people.

Also your profile says SoCal, sup with that?

I live in SoCal but travel for work (IT Consultant). From September to the end of February, I was in South Florida on a project. My new project is in North Carolina and I'm slated here until 10/31 . So I'm across the country 4-5days a week and then home for the weekends.
