It's hackable though. And cross compatible. So I picked up some invisible gate sensors for it so I can keep it in the kitchen and it won't go into the living room and eat Legos and shit. I've been thinking about adding an old raspberry pi I have laying around to give it scheduling.

But it'll do carpet and tile no problem. There's a switch that keeps it from kamakazee'ing down stairs so that's neat.

Oh, and since it's IR based, I was able to program my Philips Pronto universal remote to command it like a RC car.

All in all, I highly recommend Roombas if you want to fux with it. But for just a lazybot cleaner, there are cheaper options.

And one last thing... I was really impressed when taking it apart. It's very well engineered. Thought out well and easy/intuitive to break into. And while it's not needed to be serviced, all the sub- components are simple to pop out and swap.

iRobot really put thought into it and it really seems to have been designed WITHOUT planned obsolescence. Which is strange to see these days.
