I'm glued to the TV and the state and county elections results websites. My county just closed the last two precincts (circuit court ordered them to stay open til 9 when all the others closed at 7). Really wish I had some alcohol right now though...

According to some exit polls I saw this morning, 28% of the Texas population is white men and 31% is white women. 71% of those white men and 59% of those white women voted for Cruz. Beto did pretty well though, since no one expected it to be this close.

This morning, I had to explain to one person (who was not pleased that our district flipped from red to blue) that - unlike the presidential election - the popular vote is the deciding factor in who wins and who loses. In this case, red lost. Her argument was that our democrat only won due to the votes of two counties. While true, the republican still lost by over 6500 votes, and some of those rural counties were pretty split. My precinct (of which there are 57 in this county) had over 2600 voters show up yesterday (which is insane for this area, even for a presidential election). Some counties in the district didn't even have that many people show up.
