Both dishes are NOT authentic Chinese food.

Sounds like it is more or less the same here. I think you can lock in for 5 years at 2.49% right now, if I'm not mistaken.

And mortgage rates are awesome right now. I'm digging the horrid Canuckian economy...

Made negotiating my new place also easier too.

Thank you for confirming!!

I always laugh when I see that shit on any menu. Pretty sure the "meat" is always breaded, deep fried and then covered in some thick ass, unhealthy as fuck glaze.

Now, back to food...Taco, MOST of the restaurants in your neck of Canada are catered to the demographics. But, I think I mentioned in a post awhile back that there is a very small handful in your town that are pretty authentic and not bad...

So, no...you will not get food poisoning. The washrooms are decent.

It's like looking at a Japanese menu, dude. If the menu has 2-3 pages of ROLLS and nothing BUT rolls (maki) and those rolls are pretty much combinations of some mayo and panko chips with whatever f*ck protein they thought up while scratching their balls and giggling how to sucker the "foodies"...then you know the place is not authentic.

I'm not. Wifey has only gotten one raise in the last 6 years and that was only because she moved into a totally different position. The wage freeze is likely going to go on for another two years for non-union workers. She doesn't even get the yearly cost-of-living-adjustment, so essentially, she makes less money year after year.

Good Chinese food usually has nice ingredients of seafood...a great way to sample something simple and amazing is maybe order some dungeness crab and have the kitchen either prepare it with ginger, scallions sauce or a la a light fry with some pepper chips to give it heat.

Wonderful.

Vegetables...be brave (although, I honestly ask: what is there to be f*cking brave about for a damn plant?!??) and try some pea tips stir fried with garlic. Not only will the waiter be impressed with your order but you'll be getting something simple, tasty, and healthy.

And since there's 2 of you, for a turf dish...a simple peppered chicken is great. It's usually stirfried with other vegetables (i.e. peppers, mushrooms) and on a bed of deep fried spinach leaves...delicious.

Hope that helps.

Yeah, FWIW, I've been on a salary "freeze" for the last 2 years as well...It does suck.

But, it beats the layoffs since I'm not in the oil/gas sector.

Oh I'm quite familiar with a few of the good places. Like I've always said, you know it's authentic if the kitchen and bathrooms are dirty

There's too much of this shit "Chinese" food, specifically, as you said it, catered to gwairo.

Haha...well, that's why I said, some of these places do not necessarily have horrid washrooms and kitchens...So, keep looking too. I'm sure the places you go to are good...I mean, if you like it, you like it. But, there are other joints where the place does NOT look run-down and the food us authentic.

At least BC isn't totally dependent on oil. I believe every province does get some wealth sharing from Alberta and Saskatchewan from oil revenues, but we are totally reliant on it.

Because this is going on so long, the trickle down effect is starting to hit a bit of everything. I'm lucky my job is safe from all of this, but it's crazy to see how hard we've been hit. My old boss had a condo in Ft. Mac that he used to rent out for $2600/month. He said it's been sitting vacant for months and he can't even rent it out for $1200/month right now.

I think no matter how you look at it, All of Canada will be hurting for awhile from the slumping economy and low oil prices. Even Trudeau's infrastructure spending to create jobs and stimulate the economy will do very little. Adding $10 billion/year is a drop in the bucket.

I've actually never been there. I'm excited to try it out. I'll be sure to look at their time pieces and cars while I'm at it.. And return to grumbling at my food as I look at my 10 year old Acura sitting outside

Yeah...the bubble is always something that will burst...inflate...burst again. I guess the important thing is to not get too high or low with the way the market inevitably goes.

OPEC is quite keen to mess up NA's oil prices...that's clear. So, how long they play this game for is well, up in the air...but, at a minimum, I know this will be a long year for many who rely on oil and gas. I know people who got laid off from Stantec, Atco, and Enbridge. So, times are tough.

I can only hope that those peeps who were affected by the job market saved up and were prudent during the "good times".

@Rockstar I have a whole new found respect for you. I was trying to take "better" pics of my car and it's harder than it looks to make a stand still object look good.

Also my window visors came in today and the rear window visor will be here on Thursday!

Thinking about pulling the trigger on a 07 White Acura TL Type S, priced at 10.9k. Only problem is it has 150k miles, what should I expect with that? I'm buying out of state because Cali prices are awful.

Bought mine at 150k. Essentially do your homework. Check the Carfax and take it at face value, go check the car out, take someone with you that knows about cars. How many service records does it have? How many owners? Was the 105k mile service done? And if all that doesn't convince you to pull the trigger, ask to take to a shop and get it checked out before you buy.

If the car was taken care of, it's good for at least another 50-75k. I plan to stretch that out and build from the ground up. Anything could or could not be wrong wit the car. It's used, and most people don't buy the Type S to pussyfoot around town to church and back. It's up to you but do ya homework first. If everything checks out, pull the trigger.

I guess I'd make sure the 105k service was actually done.

I'm sure you can expect any of the following needing to be replaced, if not done so already:
  • Engine mounts
  • Compliance bushings
  • Swaybar end links
  • Various dash/interior lights
  • If you care, navigation disk is likely out of date
  • Brakes pads and rotors
  • Tires
  • If 5AT, pressure switches and 3x3 flush
  • Potentially the struts (although doubtful)
  • Valve adjustment with the 105k service. If not done, it would help your fuel economy and reduce valve chatter
  • Lower ball joints

I think if those items check out ok, you should be fine. I'd expect some of them needing to be done, but if they ALL need to be done, maybe consider another car, or talk the owner down in price big time. Hope this helps.
