My owners manual doesn't show any "30000 mile service". What does yours say?

Do you have a MID message for maint? What is the MID Code (A1, B2, etc)?

- Hondaworks

- Justin (forget his screen name)...former Honda tech, does good work. He's done some stuff for ACCURATEin.

- mmade22 just had his timing belt service done by a tech at Honda (doing side work). mmade22 or TrevorT can get you his info.

Wilkesboro, you joined two years ago and posted one time? Interesting....I guess you are the silent type. Try to make it to the meet on the 7th of March. The 30k service, oil change, tire rotation, air filter replaced along with the cabin air filter. That would be my 30k service. If it's a 6mt, change the fluid. Do it yourself or expect to pay around 150-200 from the dealer.

I called the dealership and quote was $540. This includes transmission oil change as well. is that something not needed for 30K?

Whoah, that's way too high. There is no 30K mile service, but what should be done is basically the oil, transmission fluid, tire rotation, and maybe brake fluid. If you do it yourself that shouldn't cost you over 60$. If you go to a good mechanic they'll just charge you less than 150

On the transmission fluid, I recommend a drain and fill. After 1K miles do another drain and fill to release/drain all the debris in fluid. I don't believe in the 5x5

WAY, WAY over-priced. Hendrick does good work, but with a shop rate of $104/hr and adding everything they can think of, it adds up in a hurry.

Tranny fluid at 30k is a good idea, but not required per the Owners Manual until your "x3" Service comes up on the MID.

And I'll bet dollars to doughnuts Hendrick is doing a "drain and refill" with 3 qts of fluid. To do it right you want a "3 x 3" drain and refill. Thats ~9 qts and replaces something like 85% - 95% of the tranny fluid.

Brake fluid is once every three years, so you might be due. Some DIY'ers do it every year.

Have you been following the MID maint recommedations? If so, is the MID showing a "Service Due Soon" message now? If so, which service is it recommending?

Other than the Trans Fluid and Brake Fluid, only things likely are Cabin Air Filter, Engine Air filter, Oil and Oil Filter and Tire Rotation IF the MID is showing B12.

Everything in B12 can be done at home for ~$90 and a couple hours on a Saturday. AND you get better Filters and Oil than Hendrick will give you.

^exactly.

One problem I have with that and what most people do is that 3x3. No need to do the drain and refill times 3. Drain and fill, let the fluid run for 1K miles too get all the contaminants FULLY then drain and fill one more time. The 3x3 flush will not remove all contaminants.

Are you changing the tranny filter as well? Once or twice?

I didn't change the filter, but you can. Change it on the second/last drain and fill.

No trans filter on our cars (well, there is one, but you can't change/remove it). It came up in the trans cooler thread.

30K Service cost

I was trying to save a few dollars and here is what we got hit with.
Transmission fluid service, brake service, oil change, battery service, multipoint check, air filter replacement, installed oil conditioner, rotated and balanced tires, completed battery service, cabin air filter replacement, injector cleaning kit. 183.77 parts and 351.23 labor total 535.00 (before tax) @ the Honda Dealer in Norman Oklahoma. The car also got hit by some debree on the way there. The front bumper cover has to be repainted. These services aren't cheep no matter where you go in my opinion, driving these cars or more expensive ones.

Thats a lot of work that could have cost half or less had you done most of it yourself. I don't expect you to balance your wheels but all other things could have been. Lets not kid ourselves here...The Acura TL is nothing more than a luxury Honda Accord. The easiest car to work on.

things to be done at 30K:

1. Oil and oil filter change
2. Tire rotation
3. Cabin Air filter change (you can do this yourself if you can operate a screw-driver and save 100+ dollars)
4. Engine Air Filter Change (see number 3)
5. Transmission Fluid change (if 5AT, if 6MT not now)
6. Check tires for unusual wear or baldness, replace and balance as necessary.
7. Parking brake adjustment if necessary (it should lock in 10-15 clicks)

At most it should cost you 120 dollars.
