Red face 2007 Type S transmission vs 2007 base transmission

Hi every one Im actually thrilled to actually sign up wih this site. I own a 2008 6sp MT TSX. The realiability on this one is through the roof. She has 140,000 miles and running VERY strong. Any ways, long story short I want to get a tl ! You wouldnt believe the amount of reading ive done on here as far as trying to narrow down which 3rd gen tranny is the most bullet proof. Ive read a lot of conflicting reports from people saying its the same trans as the RLs, to its just the bell housing thats the same, to pretty much any thing else I was wondering if any one could really tell me the difference between the base transmssions and type s . Especially as far as comparing their reliability thanks !!!

I was under the impression that the trans on the base is the same as the type s. typse s has 3.5 v.s the 3.2. So maybe shift points which is all in program of the tcm. What's the point. Type s v.s base. Both nice cars. Both Hondas wearing Acura clothing. Type S is a more flashy car with quad exhaust waffle style wheels and Honda's j35 power plant. Some one else will chime in that knows more. I personally love my base tl.

Assumption: the transmission you are referring to is the Automatic. Yes, no?

If "Yes", my understanding is the same as svtmedic's, the 2007 and 2008 automatic transmissions were the same regardless of whether it was a Base model or a Type-S.

If "No", then no, they are not the same. Why? The Base model in those two years were not available with the 6MT. That said, other than the bell-housing (or whatever it is called on FWD cars), the transmissions on the 2004-2006 6MT models are the same as the 2007-2008 Type-S 6MT models.

If we talking about 07-08 AT then yes its the same regardless of trim. NO its NOT the same transmission from Acura RL as the RL AT feature a transfer shaft and gear which send power to the rear differential, so the 07-08 TL borrow the design but its not the same transmission.

Hi every one thanks for the replies. Let me be a little more specific with my question. First off, yes im talking about the autos. I know the manuals are the same guys its just the autos that im calling into question. ive heard some bad things about the 2004 to 2006. Which really drags because I actually like the reserved styling of those years. Ive heard that when you use the padel shift mode that the type s trans rev matches which puts less where on the clutch pack.

07-08 has down shift rev match regardless of trim. You can added paddle shift to base 07-08 TL aslo.

I thought I was the only one who preferred the 2004-2006 look.

The good news about the earlier cars is you can swap the tranny out for the 2006-2007 Accord V6 transmission (aka. AV6), and you'll have the earlier styling along with a more robust transmission.
