2006 AT Transmission Reman Jasper
First off, hello to all! I'm a new user, but have been consulting the forums for quite some time for TL info as I finally purchased my 2006 5AT NPB with 120k on the clock.
Looked forever to find one in decent shape, and I'm glad to finally be with you all as a TL owner! This forum and all of you have been a HUGE resource in this process,
and I just wanted to send a tremendous thank you for everything you've shared thus far - really cant overstate how much help you've all been! The TL is a car I've wanted to
own forever, and this forum honestly is what made it possible for me.
As for my small contribution, wanted to share my AT reman experience in case it can be of any help. I acquired my TL with a rear main seal leak which I knew I'd be dealing with.
After just a short month the original tranny melted down, so it was time to correct both issues. I do a lot of my own work, but a tranny swap is definitely beyond my means. My local
mechanic has been with us for years and is both honest and reliable - a rare commodity these days! He works with JASPER for remanufactured transmissions and gave them his
full recommendation. After reading a few mixed reviews here and elsewhere I was a bit uneasy. Needed the car back online asap and did not have time to source the Accord trans
many have had luck with, so I went with his recommendation and did the Jasper unit as they had one immediately available.
It's only been three weeks, but I have to say it performs perfectly! Shifts are incredibly smooth and quiet. The prevailing whine of my original is now gone. I am pleasantly surprised, and hoping
with great preventative care I can get many more years from it. For anyone interested, Jasper includes a three year 100k warranty on their units including both parts AND labor. Fingers crossed
that I will not be needing to use it! The unit ran $3,200.00 completely remanufactured with all new solenoids and pressure switches. Installation was additional. I decided on this route as I love the car and plan on keeping it
as long as the wheels stay on!
As many of us have encountered transmission woes I wanted to share this experience in case it helps. I will keep the thread updated going forward and keep everyone posted on the long term
reliability of the product. Hope this helps another in this situation. Happy to help with any questions - just let me know!

Glad that it is working properly. That’s great news, and very good info. The price is steep (in my opinion) but only from what I’ve read, comparing what an accord tranny costs. Again, I have not experienced this yet, and hope and pray not too. Thanks for the info tho, this can help a lot of people in the same situation. Do you happen to know any specifics as to what the Jasper remanufactured tranny included? Just curious. Thanks and happy that you have it fixed now!

Aside from the warranty info, there was no specific documentation on what upgrades were performed during the reman. Jasper claims that any and all updates that can be done to correct oem issues are completed.
I was interested in knowing this as well. I've since looked at pricing on fully remanned accord trannies and TBH there is not much of a price difference. The warranty definitely influences the price. Less expensive = less warranty. The only cheaper route would be to go with a used Accord unit and hope for the best. I just didn't see a point in doing this when paying for installation labor. I just felt better knowing I could enjoy the car without worrying about it, and going forward I'll be all over maintaining it so hopefully all will be good! The TL is definitely worth the investment in my opinion......the current gen 9 and 10 speed transmissions will never get this far down the road! And you can actually do most of your own work on ours!

Do you know if it has the updated valve body? That is the key fix. I had my 07 Accord V6's trans rebuilt + rear main seal replaced6 months ago, for $2200 parts + labor.

Hey t-rd Not sure as Jasper didn't provide documentation on the updates. Going to reach out to them today and see what I can find out. Will update when I know more.

The root problem of this transmission is that the valve body bores wear out and allow fluid to leak through, which results in torque converter not cooling and allows it to overheat at idle. This is documented on Sonnax' website: https://www.sonnax.com/tech_resource...honda-overheat
The fix is to install updated valve body such as the one I had the shop installed: https://superiortransmission.com/pro...r-stl-ho5-388/
I looked at Jasper before I had my original trans rebuilt, but ended up not going with it.
And if you haven't done it, you should have an external cooler installed, and run multi-vehicle ATF such as Valvoline maxlife. And start driving in D3 at speeds lower than 36mph to lessen the wear on the torque converter clutch. The TCC is partially engaged as soon as you hit the 2nd gear. If you drive in heavy traffic a lot, the TCC will wear out sooner with the trans constantly doing the 1/2 shifts.

Thanks for the info.....is Valvoline Maxlife preferred over the Honda D-1? Many said the updated Honda fluid was the best choice for our units.

Unless otherwise approved by Jasper, you may find you void your warranty using MaxLife versus the correct ATF (which is Honda DW-1). If in doubt, call Jasper.
