I tried twice to straighten the pin and have another go, but ended up with the same problem both times. Finally I chucked the pin and replaced it with a drill bit. Plenty stiff and slipped right out with pliers when the time came.

BTW: A simple large C-clamp works great to compress the tensioner. I've used an old rusty one to do this at least 6 times. Just go slow and you won't have any trouble.

I completed my job a few weeks ago. Everything runs fine. I did some other stuff too like ATF 3x3 etc.,
I had to use a drill bit on the tensioner in the end. Thanks for the suggestion 94eg! That thing was the most
difficult part of the whole job for me

Also I used the Milwaukee 2763 impact wrench. The CP bolt came out easily with a normal impact socket.
Just took a couple of tries. I am loving working on my car!! thanks for the awesome write up and help people!

I have to get my 105k maintenance done and the dealer is wanting me to pay like $2700 dollars. Pretty clear they're ripping me off.

I love this post however the pictures aren't showing up anymore and I'd like to purchase all the products myself and bring it all to a trusted mechanic to install (because I do not have the physical means to do it).

Is there a specific parts list somewhere with links to all the items I need to buy? I see a lot of part lists, but not specific part numbers or links. Just want to make sure I buy all the right items.

Weird, tried in two different browsers and get nothing. Doesn't really matter though b/c I don't intend on doing the work myself. I just need a specific parts list so I can buy everything needed. Acura also told me I need to replace the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor (for $575 dollars) because the VSA keeps coming on causing my car not to go above 2k rpm.

Pretty sure they're trying to rip me off, so I want to buy all the parts myself. Any help is appreciated because my car is taken apart right now at the dealer and I'm sure they need an answer and want their loaner car back lol.

I also keep getting a message saying my fuel cap needs to be tightened. Doesn't effect performance and is just more annoying than anything but I'd like to get that resolved as well.

Red face

I was going to have my brotherinlaw do the 105k service on my car but he's not 100% confident he can do it. So.... I'm not about to drop 300 in parts and then for him to get however far into the job and say, ummm. just kidding lol! So, I found a local car shop here in dallas that will do it for $720 plus tax with a 2 year or 24k mileage warranty. I feel safer that way and know that this shop specializes in Honda & Acura's.

720+tax and you bring the parts... that's steep labor price IMO.
The 2yrs 24k miles is just marketing.. if they eff it up, it'll be apparent right away, and they'd be liable anyways.
Parts are warrantied as well..

Anyways, I'd encourage you to shop around a bit more or gather the muster to DIY.
If that price includes parts, just make sure it includes the auto tensioner, idler pulley, and adjuster (full OE kit, get the plugs and t-stat done too)
I'd also recommend the aisin water pump.. that's the one thing they could eff up with the gates pump that could show later (pinch the o-ring, not seat it right).
Personally, Gates pump was fine with my install.

720 with parts? or 720 and you bring parts? If they supplying parts are they installing new seals and tensioners and everything or just the belts and the WP?

Which shop if you dont mind me asking?

$720 labor plus parts (TB, water pump, tensioner, tensioner pulley, idler pulley) is a bit high IMO, considering that a Gates kit can be had for ~$125 or an Aisin kit can be had for ~$185, but it's not outlandish.

If that rate includes plugs and /or a valve adjustment, it's a good deal.

P.S. FYI, I'm on my second gates pump with no issues (~35K miles so far). The first gates pump was fine also, lasted ~107K until I replaced it at my 2nd TB change.

$720 if it includes all the parts, not including sparks and valve adjustment) is actually a good deal for the DFW area. I haven't found it under 900 with all the parts. one place will charge me 85/hr labor if i buy the parts and they est 5 hours but the kit on ebay is $297.

FWIW, that Aisin kit has the seals which really aren't needed. The quality drive belt can be had for ~$20. If one wants to replace the seals, then that kit is still a little pricey IMO. I don't think those seals cost $35 each???

Timing belt package for parts and labor is $720 (2 year 24,000 mile warranty all OE parts).

It comes with timing belt, outer drive belt, timing belt, hydraulic tensioner, water pump and anti freeze flush.

Time to complete job is 3-5 hours.

North Dallas Imports is the place. Its super convenient and its only 5 min away from work and home.

I've already had the spark plugs replaced and air filter

That was one helluva write up! I'm definitely going to save this thread!

Would I have to do another timing belt swap at 210K?

It's not as good of a deal as you think. That only includes timing belt and water pump. They'll upcharge auto-tensioner, idler pulley, plus spark plugs, tstat, etc..

Hey guys, if I decide I will have someone do this service for me, what is a reasonable labor price? $250 sound fair ?

I guess when they say "while supplies last" they meant it.. sold out it seems..

I've actually been eyeing the new Mid-torque Milwaukee M18 FUEL 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Brushless 1/2 in. Cordless Mid Torque Impact Wrench with Friction Ring Kit-2861-22 - The Home Depot that just came out. It's 600 ft-lb of torque as opposed to 1100

You can still get the Milwaukee from ToolUp for $270. Not as good a deal as the HD deal, but still a good price.

I almost pulled the trigger at $250 even though I have the IR....

but your color scheme

btw.. the milwaukee can be had for 2 bills.. getting a charger and battery on the low low is your goal.
DeWalt has 3rd party support so batteries and charges are inexpensive.
