What's the spring you're talking about here? I did the sensors but 4th gear stutter is still here :-( did you do the 1x3 with the new DW1 fluid?

i used redline d4 fluid. the spring is behind the filter, i dont think it could make it stutter though. i only changed it because i was replacing the filter. there is a tranny additive called dura lube that would probably fix your problem though, it comes in a red bottle.

When/how often should you replace the filter? I got a 3x3 change back at 68k and again at 105k, not sure if the 3x3 did the filter change though. The transmission seems to stutter noticeably this winter at cold temps uphill on light throttle similar to this and many threads talkjng about the problem so I'm trying to troubleshoot

Hi, I'm new to these boards here. Could somebody tell me the exact parts I would need to do the 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches in my 04 Acura TL? I'm not mechanically inclined at all but I was going to have a local independent Honda shop do the work. If you could tell me which parts and where to order from that would be very helpful!

Just some background info: I bought an 04 Acura TL back in October, it now has 104,700 miles on it. I'm just trying to get caught up on all the maintenance that the previous owner failed to do as I'm discovering now. Just had the timing belt, water pump, serpentine belt, PS o-ring, spark plugs, air filter, and cabin filter all replaced for about $700. Any other info you can give me would be great. Don't want my tranny to go out!

P.S. Any TL owners in the Fort Wayne, Indiana area?

Thanks!

Thanks Project! And this may be a stupid question but which part is the 3rd gear sensor and which is the 4th gear sensor?

not sure without looking it up .. just guessing 28600 is 3rd, 28610 is 4th .. the connectors are different colors so you cant confuse them when installing.

when do these switches need to be done? my brother has 110k miles (04) on his TL and he has never done these. he has changed fluid every 30k but never knew about these. I have a 6-speed type-S so also had no idea.

Man I think my tranny might be on the way out, stutter seems more frequent and apparent now even after the 3rd/4th pressure sensor change. I guess I'll do an oil change to the new DW-1 before calling my mech to eval fixing the transmission... grrrr... love this car and engine but man Honda can't make a transmission to save their lives

I have a 2008 TL (Base Model). I was experiencing the "torque converter shutter" when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear at low RPMs. I had the tranny fluid changed at the dealer (they used ATF-DW1) and now the shutter it gone (it has been about 3,00KM since the flush and still no shutter).

I think that my tranny is shifting a bit on the hard side, especially when it's cold. I am going to change the pressure switches and see if it makes a difference.

I'll keep you guys posted.

I changed all three switches on my car a couple weeks ago. I noticed zero difference. But I am glad to have done this as a preemptive measure.

^Same here, but I wasnt doing it because I had any issues. I simply done it to celebrate my TL turning 50k miles Its peace of mind knowing my TL is properly cared for (new fluids, spark plugs, tires, and trans switches)

Took about 20 min total (including putting tools/jack away)

3rd & 4th gear pressure switches went in w/o a problem. 3x3 fluid change was done using a 2-D-4 + 1-Racing type F cocktail; so far no noticible difference in shift quality, but I am only at 50k miles.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure...

Here's my story:

2004 TL. In January of 2010 at 88k miles, I did this as preventative maintainence, along with a 3x3 of redline. Nothing was wrong before, nothing really changed after. Two or so years into it, i kinda felt that the trans shifted firm. not hard, not slipping, i just attributed it to the racing atf. keep in mind, it was very gradual, those two years, so i didnt really notice anything alarming. Fast forward till now, June 2013 (114k miles) I get in the car yesterday and the green "D" light is flashing. Fuck. So I scan it, p0847 (3rd clutch trans pressure switch short or stuck on). Thankfully, the parts were available the same day from my dealer, so I changed them last nite, along with a 1x3 of some fresh redline. The car shifts sooooo much better! Like I said, I didn't realize how bad the switches degraded in that short amount of time, 3years and 25k miles. Hopefully I saved my trans and any damage that was done was minimal. So I really learned my lesson and these switches will be changed out every 2 years, regardless of mileage.

I can't believe the difference in shift quality. Although I "thought" the trans was shifting correctly, it wasn't and became very apparent after they were swapped out. Big thanks to sixsixfour for this write up! What a great contribution to our online community!

My advise: whether you think your trans is acting up or not, replace these every two years. Better safe than sorry! Because even though u may feel like your car is shifting fine, it may not be, and you may not notice until u swap them....or worse, until it's too late.

Replaced the switches and did a 1x3 the other day. Switches are so easy to replace, I'm not sure why anyone would skip this, and they aren't very expensive.

Mine feels a bit smoother, but seems more related to the new redline. I'll be doing 2x3 and 3x3 soon.

Thanks to everyone for all the info.

Is there a 2nd gear pressure sensor? Sometimes when I accelerate from 1st to 2nd it shakes a little. I did the 3x3 drain and fill last month but haven't done the sensor changes yet.

Did it on my acura tl 2005 base, canadian model with part 28610-RAY-003; 28600-RAY-003. Perfect fit, my 3rd pressure switch washer was corroded. Took me 30 minutes, 4th switch easy, 3rd switch we took only one bolt off the black plastic (upper one). Part in Montreal are pretty expensive.

I drove a little bit on th highway, didnt notice any change

Thank OP

1997 Acura xl 3.0 trabsmission pronlems. finally answeres that make sense

i bought this car 1 year ago today. normal maintnance plug, wires, full filter, cap and rotor, new ceramic breaks. i bought it with 218k had rebuilt motor new timing belt cold air intake. $2900.00 i live in New Orleans and was going to be working in southern California for a few months. i was un aware of transmission problems on these cars. it went out March 29th $1600.00 for used trans. it shifted bad from minute one. i'm back in New Orleans. the car down shift eraticly. it slips when going into 3td. if i feather the gas all is fine. if i manually shift the gears it shifts fine. The preasure sensors make total sense. i replaced the solenoid yesterday. The only thing that showed inprovement was when i changed 6 quarts of ATF.

Not for the 1-2 shift. Using a different fluid with less FM would be the only hope.

^This. My 99 TL shifts were horrible through all the gears. I done a 3x3 with type F fluid and its better. shifts are definitely firmer, but I still take it easy.

I just did these for the 2nd time. The first time I did these switches was around 72k. I am at just over 126k miles now, so 50k miles ago was the 1st. I had all Redline Racing ATF in my tranny since upper 70-something (did a total of 4x3). About 1,000 miles ago I did a 1x3 to lower the amount of Racing (for why see here).

Shifting was noticeably smoother afterwards.

my 1st time post (references correct part numbers for 2005 TL): https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...&postcount=121

I've been getting my parts from Delray Acura for years: http://www.acuraoemparts.com/ (They are also a sponsor here at AZ. Put ACURAZINE in the comments and you should get an extra 5% off)

I replaced my switches in June '10 and 43k miles later I am now going to change them again this month. I thought I replaced them in 2011, but going and looking into my order history with Delray Acura I found it was in 2010. No issues with my tranny so far running redline and changing out the swtiches. Hopefully that continues. I'm at 143k miles on my '06.

I just replaced my sensors and did a 3x3 with D4 and racing. No noticeable change other than manual shifting between 1st and 2nd gear you can tell it grabs harder with less slip.
