Is the 100k warranty worth it? And how much should I pay for an '08 Type S with 55k?

I checked the dealers website and they have two 08 type s, with 50k miles, black, for 24k. How much do you think I can bring him down AND how much would i have to pay extra for the 100k warranty. It comes with a 12k warranty but its useless cuz usually problems arise after 75k to 80k. Is the 100k warranty worth it?

How much am I realistically looking at out the door?

Search elsewhere. A CPO Type-S can be fetched for a little less then that with a 100k mile warranty.

Extended warranties are SCAMS.
You will pay for something that never pays back when you need it. Then your out the money you could have used for a real repair

Do search for comparables on the internet...6MT is more than an AT too...prices I am seeing now from dealers for CPO is in that 24K range...I would not get the warranty, huge waste of money IMHO, these are great cars and very reliable. Wholesaler in Texas had an 08 Type S with 47K miles at about $24K, so retail dealers will get more.

I would say pass on the warranty, especially for an '08.

Strongly disagree. Yes there are plenty like the ones you see on infomercials that are horrible and only use junk yard parts. If you find out what company this place uses do some research. I can only say this as far as my experience goes. At my subie dealer we obviously have subaru added service which is bumper to bumper, fidelity which is also very good and rarely denys stuff, and zurich which is still pretty damn good especially with drivetrain type stuff.

I would pass on the warranty, I think someone in this forum just created a thread stated that CPO cars can't buy extended warranty and now his parent lost money (yes his parent did bought the car from Acura dealer as CPO). I would save the extra for later down the road, face it the car only has 50k miles and the powertrain warranty still have 20k miles left and plus you get 12k miles bumper to bumper through Acura, not thing much can go wrong with these Honda especially with that mileage.

There was a guy who post a few weeks ago. Bought an extended warranty thru a major dealership in San Antonio. They refused to pay out and now he's out on money to fix his vehicle.

The choice is yours, wether or not you trust the dealer.

^it's not really about the dealer, it's whatever company they use to handle claims. people fail to read the fine print and then they're surprised when the warranty wont cover something in the future.

i would always have someone check over the warranty info before you sign anything. don't feel trapped sitting at the dealership, take your time with it.

There's a reason they offer these warranties... because the companies that do make money off of them! Basically the odds are against you (on average) recouping more from one of these warranties than you paid out, otherwise they would never offer them in the first place.

As mentioned above make sure you understand what it covers. I personally would only get one if it covers everything. Full bumper to bumper or whatever they may be calling it. A lot of times ppl focus on the mileage of the warranty and not length of time and are surprised when 3 years later at 85K miles their 100K mile warranty is no good. Or vice versa. Also make sure that it's transferable and / or refundable. So if you sell the car you can either transfer it to the new owner or have the cost of the extended warranty pro rated and refunded back to you.
Having said all of that I personally wouldn't buy and extended warranty on an 08 TL with only 50k miles.

Fact is, these extended warranties are huge profit makers for the dealers and the companies that offer them. Otherwise dealers wouldn't sell them and everytime I buy a car I wouldn't get 10 mail offers to buy them.

I paid 23.5 for my 07 Type S almost 2 yrs ago, it only had 30k miles. It was a CPO from the acura dealer, so I got the 100k mile full warranty for $750. They originally wanted over $1200 for it. If you can get a good deal on it, and it will make you feel better do it, but don't pay full price. I think you can get a better deal on the car too.

I've used www.curryacuracare.com for my Acura extended warranty when I had my CLs. It won't help you with this car because it will need to be a 2009 or newer. IMO, it was 100% worth it. I used it a number of times with my CL and when I sold the car I got a partial refund.

If I cannot get one of those I would definitely find a CPO TL. We all agree that for the most part these cars are reliable but that is FOR THE MOST PART. The CPO is just piece of mind. If OP drives like a normal person he will probably have the car for 3-4 years before it hits 100K. An extra $1000 financed is well worth it to me.

How much interest are your willing to pay to finance 750.00.

I would say not to go over 24k out the door price.

24k covering tax, title, transfer, dealer fees or any other BS they try to add.
And I would walk away from extended warranty. Most salesman will tell you that its a joke anyway and mostly used to get your loan amount higher = more interest.

But if the seats are mint, no rock chips, rims not curbed, smells good, then 24k for 50k miles would be the high end. But you are looking retail.

if the car is list for 24k there is a good chance you won't be able to walk out with less than $23.5k OTD.

Tell that to the company that paid for my New short block at 79,995 miles on an 80k warrenty. Again these companies sending you warrenty offers are ones you stay away from. There are plenty of very good warrenty companies out there, two I've already listed. In the end you must do your own research. Most dealers also generally use good warrenty companies that will pay out otherwise thier customers won't come back. But some use some crappy companies which is why you must research before buying them. All and all with a good one its a great thing to get.

It was listed for 25,9. I researched and found the car is worth between 19-22...There were scratches everywhere on the car including a huge scratch on the left panel and on the bumper... it drove really nice tho...The guy said 28 OTD, I offered him 19k, and he walked off and said thats ridiculous. and so my search continues....

Listed for $25,900 and they wanted 28 OTD...they're going to have that TL for a long time.

Good for you...your situation is a rarity...every economic expert recommends against buying extended warranties...and once again, if the dealers and the companies weren't making $, because the vast majority of these warranties go unused, they wouldn't be in business. All the purchaser is doing is betting their car will have a serious breakdown.

I bought my TL with 55k and did a 60k/4 year warranty through fidelity. Between repairing the driver's side heated seat that failed, and resolving the "tighten gas cap" issue I was having, the warranty has already paid for itself.

These cars are plenty reliable, but i kept creature comforts/electronics in mind when purchasing the warranty. And so far it was a good choice.

I bought an extended warranty on a car that had 21k miles. 2K later, the trans goes. I sure was glad I bought it. It's rare but they can pay for themselves. It gave me piece of mind as well.

Gas cap light was an $80 module that took less than 5 minutes to replace.

My pass side seat heater light is out and that is a $40 module that will take 15 minutes to fix but seat still heats.

I bought an extended warranty once and used it for a battery, which surprised it covered but did.

Other than that one ^^ exception for a short block I have seen no use for that warranty.

I checked out a 07 type s with 85k miles. it had a lot of cosmetic defects including little, but many, chips on the bumper and grill, and a weird line on the side panel, and also a black scratch on the bumper...it also had rust in two places, by the door (usual spot on hondas/acura).. it drove nice, but the salesman was a dick. he let me test drive for literally a minute and i was like what kind of test drive is this? and he's after you buy u can drive it..!! LOL. Anyways, there were asking 17,900 and said there not going below at ALL. 19660 OTD.

Hey man, if you're interested I know someone who has a carbon bronze 07 tl-s, auto with only 5600 miles on it and is asking $25,500. PM me for more details.

Basically in a nutshell, I work for CU and had a member come in and say his wife is no longer able to drive the car. It's been services by the Acura dealership it's entire life and is owned by older people.

Yup, 5600 miles. The guy is 70 something and bought it for his wife. She recently became disabled and isn't able to drive the car anymore. He is looking to get rid of the car to make some money on the deal.

If anyone you know is interested, PM me and I can pass on his information to you. I told him I was part of an online car forum and that random dudes might call him about the car lol.

It is literally in mint condition. He brought it back after the lease ended since Acura was going to give him a shitty deal on the car.

Extended warranties are a crap shoot. If you can get them way down on price its a good piece of mind. I have bought 3 total and one paid for itself and then some. Within 5000 miles the tranny went. I did buy one for my TL and used it for a motor mount replacement at the tune of $350 approximately. Otherwise just brakes, rotors and tires is all I have replaced. I would pass on it unless you hammer the car and there are known issues.
