Unhappy 06 TL Transmission Death!

My transmission on my 06 TL just went out. Started flipping out and then just settled into first gear. Dealer says it needs to be replaced and would run around $6,000 to do it. Car has 175k miles. Should I try and have a used transmission dropped in (not dealer) or is it funeral time for my TL

I think you should look into getting the transmissions rebuilt or finding an Accord V6 transmission to replace it.

True, maybe a rebuild would less costly. All dealers seem to know is just replace it. Thanks

How much do you like the car, what kind of overall condition is it in, and how long would you like to keep it? Couple of options, here:: 1. Install a warranted Accord AV6 transmission, Average cost= $1500. Buy a used Acira transmission, with a 6 month warranty, drive the car, till it needs a timing belt service, than sell, or trade it. Average cost= $1500.00. 3. Select a quality Transmission Shop, and have your current transmission rebuilt. Average cost = $3500, and drive it another 150K.

As an '06 owner with 170k on my original transmission

Did you keep up with fluid changes? Ever change the pressure switches?

But to answer your original question, frankjnjr pretty much hit the nail on the head. It really depends on your financial/life situation. the cheapest and quickest option is getting a AV6 trans - simple as an ebay order (don't forget the new torque converter) and handing it off to an independent shop.

Also depends on what YOU want out of the car. Personally I'd love to drive mine for another 170k miles, considering the rest of it is in great shape. Make a T chart with one sides being "positives of keeping the TL" vs "negatives of keeping the tl" and write all the reasons you can think of under each. That's what I typically do for bigger decisions like this.

I just had the transmission rebuilt on my 07 Accord V6 for $2200. I"m not sure where you guys get $6000. I detailed in another thread the fix to the root problem of the BAYA transmission. https://acurazine.com/forums/third-g...ebuild-969569/

I had 280k original miles and did 15k miles 1x1 changes, and 30k miles 3x3 changes, 50k miles 3rd and 4th gears' pressure switch changes. If your trans died that early, either you abused it or didn't keep up with fluid changes.
