'04 TL owners, list highest mileage
Are there any 04 TL owners out there that has mileage over 100K? If so,
1. What type of oil did you use?
2. When did you first change your oil (in terms of mileage)?
3. How often did you change your transmission fluid?
4. Does your car still run like it is brand new?

I have a 106K on my car.
I use Mobil 5000 5w20 and change the oil per the MID at 30% ( this is about every 6500 miles for me.( I also use the oem oil filter)
The trans fluid( auto) is changed about every 20 to 25K
The air filter is change every 20 to 25K as well.
The car runs just like new and I still have the orginal spark plugs( The MID has not said to change them out)
Hope this helps.

How does the ATF look each time you change it? What ATF do you use?
How many miles did you have when the MID called for the subcode "3," ATF change?

I have only use Honda ATF on the changes, the fluid was the somewhat dirty on the 1st change and has been fairly clean on the other changes. My car was not part of the oil jet recall.
The MID subcode for the ATF change for me came at 66K

Well, I just got my TL
I noticed that at 26k it needs front brembo pads
as I change the pads I will do a complete brake fluid flush
drain the oil. use synthetic
Manual trans fluid drain and fill
suspension lube, check axles, adjust e-brake, check belts, replace cabin filter
Coolant will be done at 40k with honda coolant.
Its best for you auto guys to do your fluid every 20k. I did my brothers TL around 17k and the fluid was pretty spanked and this was normal driving. Brake fluid should be done everytime you do your brakes if not by 20k as well.

How does maintenance between your cars vary so much, how can one guy already change his belt at 51K mi and another with 105K mi not change his belt and still run fine?

65,000 miles. Just changed tranny fluid on M/T. Use Mobil 5w20, oil changed when MID says <20% usually at about 4-6k miles. Still running strong, only problems so far has been an initial failure of all 3 Oxygen sensors on the car.

107K, purchased March '04
The magic eight-ball display on the dash just told me an A124 service was due. The service person sounded a bit surprised when I called to schedule the service ...
The only issues I've noticed is that the DVD player always gives me a disc read error on startup (even though I cleaned a thin film of dust off the OEM DVD). And there seems to be a small bit of paint peeling/flecking off around the passenger-side headlight...

Despite the car being out of warranty, I've continued to take it to the dealer when the messages crop up. Most of the driving I do is highway, so by the time the messaage says "due now", another 1000 or more miles could elapse. But other than that, all fluids, etc. have been done at an Acura dealer.
The car has not been mod'd in any way - unless you count some abrasions to the leather seats
The only two things that I'd say were close to out of the ordinary was to have the original battery replaced last winter when I was having a couple of hard starts. And the power steering pump needed to get changed then too. Though I had been telling the dealer about a squealing for 10 minutes or so when the car was first started in the winter (squealed/groaned when the steering wheel was turned), by the time I got it to the dealer, they couldn't tell for certain what the issue was (the fluid level looked fine).
Finally, they agreed to keep it overnight and give me a loaner and - holy crap!, guess what they found? What I had been telling them for 6 weeks, which was that the power steering pump was starting to go...
For anyone keeping track of such stuff, the "due soon" message for the A124 service came up at about 107,300 miles.

1. Free Oil changes for life (dealer). Whatever oil they use
2. When ever the minder says less than 20% oil life
3. I had a transmission drain and refill at 45,000, Radiator drain and refill at 60K
4. Approx every 10,000 miles
5. Runs great. And the exhaust has grown deeper.

Mine is close to 110k/kilometters. Have it for about 3000k (1 month) feels like new, tranny feels perfect. Didnt change any oil yet since it stills at 50%. Gonna change the tranny fluid at same time of engine oil change.
Gonna Bring the car for a check up Thursday to see if everything still good!

Ones that have not replace their timing belt better do so. At 75k~ you need to replace it. Doesn't matter if its only 2-3 years old, the car requires it to be replaced due to use. If you have over 100k you are taking a serious chance of it breaking. Now if you had a chain that would be different.

The A124 service that I am having done is the first manufacturer-recommended point at which the timing belt/chain gets replaced. In others - I have not put it off longer than recommended. And having had one break before (in an American car, many years ago), I'm *highly* attuned to that potential

The same thing happened to my 04 TL. I had about 42,000 miles. The power steering pump would only make the loud groaning noise when it was cool or cold outside. I left my car with the Acura dealership overnight and they gave me a loaner car. I guess the pumps have a design flaw. They shouldnt go out this fast. The pumps should last up to 100,000+ miles. I'm glad this was taken care before the summer. The dealership wouldn't have replaced it and my warranty would have expired and it would have been extra money out of my pocket.
I'M MAKING SURE EVERYTHING IS TAKEN CARE OF BEFORE MY WARRANTY EXPIRES!!!

2004 6MT TL with 51,000 miles.
1. Change oil/filter (non-synthetic) every 4000-4500 miles.
2. Change MT fluid every 30000 miles. (Takes every frickin' extension I have, but at least it's not hard to do.)
3. Drain/fill coolant at 25000miles. Full flush at 50000 miles. (Use only Honda Type 2 for this. Costs around $12/gallon.)
4. Will do timing belt around 75000-80000 miles. Note owner's manual says change timing belt at 60000 miles if "severe service". That's enough to scare me into doing it before 105k.
Runs great. Some warranty issues but nothing huge...

I don't think you need your questions for such low mileage cars. Just use name brand products and follow a regular schedule. The only thing the needs extra regular attention is usually the auto trans. Doing regular service car should be good for more than 200,000 miles unless you beat on it regularly.

I have 105,625 exactly on my 04. I just changed my timing belt, water pump, tensioner, and idler pullies today. I'm a tech at a Honda dealer and I change my oil once a month regardless of mileage. I use the house synth blend 5-20 and an OEM filter each time. I have a 6-speed and change that fluid once every other month along with the brake fluid and power steering fluid. I don't do the coolant that often, but wait nowhere near the service interval. I know it sounds excessive, but I don't have to pay for it (except for filters and other parts) so why not. When I do services at work I keep all the left over new fluids and hord them till I have enough to do the service on my car.
I got the car with 69k miles last October from a traveling salesperson who had every service done on time at Acura of Palm Beach. I drive 90 miles round trip to work each day mostly 6 days a week so thats where my share of the miles come from. My TL still looks and drives like new all except for a few very minor rock chips and 1 annoying rattle in the drivers door that I haven't had time to fix. When I first go the car I spent 2 days fixing the regular rattles and don't feel like doing anymore. Thats my only gripe about the TL other than the cheap Honda paint.
