$4500 Acura TL Type-S!

mhtut83 12-19-2018 11:44 PM

272K miles is a lot though! Even for a TL. I wouldn't buy it, if I weren't willing to do a motor swap sooner than later. And also, can't say I'm a fan of the silver, even though its a Type S. Any other color? Perhaps...

Midnight Mystery 12-20-2018 03:09 AM

Eh... Not bad...

GhostTL09 12-20-2018 06:07 AM

That car has been through it. Dents, rips and we haven't even seen the undercarriage. The reflection of sun are hiding blemishes I'm sure.

the best looking color TypeS i had was WDP in my opinion

rockstar143 12-20-2018 06:18 AM

Even for me...that's too much and I'm not afraid of getting my hands dirty.
Rotor hats are rusty as fuck, which means everything underneath probably is.
Seat tears look intentional so there might be more damage.
Armrest damage
Hood looks misaligned and bent/dented
rims curbed

To make the damn thing look decent you're talking another what?
$1000 Tires, powder
$600 Tein Suspension (because that would have to happen)
$400 for seat reupholstery no matter how you tackle
$800 Aspec (because that would have to happen)
$500 Hood replace/respray

So you're in it $8000 already...and it's probably still rusty...and you now have a car that you will have to convince someone else to buy with 270K miles.
I had this same sort of car come up in Naples FL for I think $3000 all in from a dealership trade in...same high mileage but in pristine condition. In the end, I
was afraid to be married to the car and deep into it financially. In hindsight, I'd rather have jumped on the deal

and that's just to look cool and decent...who knows when the last 105K was done.

On a $4500 car??? What? At this point in the game, fix the seats and fix the hood and call it good. Save the rest for maintenance and repairs.

This for sure....what condition is the clutch in...stuff like that concerns me more.

If you want something to drive, buy it for $3k, fix the few items that need attention, and drive it till it dies. You want something all nice, shiny, and perfect....keep looking. This car obviously wasn't someone's baby...or at least it wasn't the last couple of years.

Acura TL Builder 12-20-2018 09:39 AM

If I had the money, I’d buy it just to putter around in.

If it runs now, most likely, with fluid changes it will continue with light driving.

horseshoez 12-20-2018 09:50 AM

Hmmm, if the undercarriage was completely clear of rust, pretty much everything else can be zero-timed (or lower timed). I might be tempted to pay up to about $4,000 for something like that.

thoiboi 12-20-2018 11:00 AM

Do it

rockstar143 12-20-2018 12:43 PM

there was a 66k manual base that sold today for 6900 in tejas...
love seeing these prices coming down.
there's some stuff that would drive me nuts...
and on a 4500 or 45000 car once you've seen it looking as good as you think should, it's hard to
settle for seeing it looking rough and high up.

BreezyTL 12-20-2018 01:13 PM

$3500 all day. As J said, needs work but I wouldn't go as far as he would with parts. Hood, seats, replace worn parts and drive it. Too many miles to invest that much in aftermarket parts.

rockstar143 12-20-2018 01:16 PM

but but but...
I used to have a garage full of the parts I'd need :tomato:

MyGuti 12-20-2018 01:35 PM

I wouldn't drive that thing for free

Ill got a shed full :P

rockstar143 12-20-2018 03:28 PM

You're full of it??!?!

truonghthe 12-20-2018 03:43 PM

I would buy it if the owner has the full history of the car, like service record receipts etc...

But from the pictures I highly doubt that gonna happen. Looks like someone get it as whole sale price and trying to quickly flipping the car.

Im dead serious. I need to enjoy what I drive, and that unfortunately would upset me while driving it lol

GhostTL09 12-20-2018 05:56 PM

didn't notice the hood damage the first time, cigarette burns, nah I'd pass, I am all too familiar with Elizabeth NJ, Paterson (where I'm from), Newark areas and used vehicles. Who knows what river they pulled that thing from or who was shot in it or what curbe they jumped up on running from the cops hahaha :beltfed:

Acura TL Builder 12-20-2018 06:33 PM

Newark is so ghetto.. My family lived in Passaic, NJ for two years after escaping the USSR.

Jeremy, I do too have a shed full for 3G parts. :p

My Son's Type S (Auto)has 287K on it, has lived it's entire life in MN and ND and is almost as solid as my 2017 Chrysler 300S (With Chrysler quality, that’s not saying much). It does have some rust starting on a fender but that is obviously from a fairly recent poorly done repair. It's got an issue here and there and people laugh when they hear he's got a car with 287K on it and probably think we're stupid when they find out we paid $4800 for it. But then they see it or ride in it. It's solid and all the accessories work like new. In all fairness, almost 200K of those miles were on the flat, wide open roads of ND. Google said the PO’s job title was something like VP in charge of land development for an oil company. It wasn’t babied, but wasn’t beat either.

My MT Type-S, which I’ve owned for less than 1 month, has 124K on it, is a one owner, perfect Carfax vehicle from CT. It seems like it’s had a little better care but not babied either. It has absolutely no rust anywhere but the undercarriage, and even there, it’s very minimal. Only a few spots on things that you’d expect to rust. It’s also pretty tight but because I bought it with a bad clutch bad CV Axle and Intermediate/Jack shaft I haven’t driven it enough to really get a good feel for it. It does feel newer and nicer than my son’s but it’s definably not what you’d expect from a 124K mile vs. 287K mile difference. I think part of that is because they’re very well engineered cars and the other is that 124K in the NY/NJ/CT area is probably much closer to the wear of 287K in ND.

So that’s a long way of addressing a few things mentioned in this post. From what I’ve seen, the TLs don’t seem to be very rust prone, even in snow/salt states. I wouldn’t be scared of a close to 300K mile TL or paying that sort of price for it. However, I saw the car in question on eBay and along with the other things mentioned (seats, cosmetic flaws, etc.) That amount of miles, in that area would cause me to hesitate. If you didn’t see my new member introduction page here’s some pics of our matching cars next to each other along with a couple from the undercarriage. Excuse them being dirty, this was right off the transport the day I got mine.

I'm hope the clutch and timing belt get done today so I can finally get to know it this coming week.

Glad to see they hold up so well in snow states!

Midnight Mystery 12-21-2018 06:29 PM

Well, they're beautiful!!! Like the dark grille on the car to the left!

rockstar143 12-21-2018 07:05 PM

And that is great news for those of us don't want a manual transmission.
