This tank is getting ridiculous. I am averaging 32.1 and climbing while consistently seeing 31 to as much as 40.6 mpg and I am not driving any differently. I can only assume it is because the temps are in the 50-60 range and maybe the winter blend of gas is gone. Other than that I am at a loss for the clear jump in gas mileage.

To Baltimore and back from NOVA. Avg speed is Classified. 32 MPG. Trips that are 10 miles or more getting close to 32. Trips that are 5 miles or less with a lot of lights getting 26 mpg. Best so far has been 55 mph to a location 20 miles away=38 mpg.

Odd that an unusual number of us seem to be in the DMV.

Now to some the DMV means Department of Motor Vehicles, but in the Washington area it means something else. If you said the DMZ that might have applied prior to the lone helicopter mail-man pilot making a run to the Capitol via the mall.

Ok here comes a relevant clip from my favorite comedian ever (insert laughter here):

I don't know what's wrong with people. I believe that I understand the man's issue, but I'd have picked a less potentially suicidal way of making the statement.

It's an important issue, and other countries don't understand our inability to deal with it.

The fact is that to settle it once and for all will probably take a constitutional amendment.

I'm just glad you've finally put yourself in a position to see that 34 mpg is a real possibility. :-)

George,
I live in Reston. I've seen only 4 PAWS in the metro area and only last week saw a PAWS here in Reston for the first time. A drive-by would be much appreciated.

this is a long thread and this may have been covered before, but I don't see your Hybrid beating the PAWS on highway mileage.
I was on a trip today and was able to stay in the 70 to 72 mph range for a good portion of the trip. Was averaging 35.5 during that stretch.
I'm sure you have PAWS beat in town if you can ever keep from dragging those Subarus to the next stop light

Last night I got 36.4 mpg going one way and 32.6 mpg the way back with speeds in the 70's both times. I'm consistently getting 32+ mpg per tank regardless of city or highway driving (disclaimer: IF I don't drive like a Hoonigan at some point during the consumption of the tank)

Almost hit 35.

Averaged 34.9 over a couple hundred mile, mixed commute. Wasn't all highway. Everything from country roads at 55 to slugging it out in Baltimore and DC.

Now that it's warming up, the MPGs you guys are getting with the RLX SH are incredible. And this is a 4000 lb vehicle that gets to 60 in under 5 seconds? Amazing.

390 miles today, 32.1 mpg spent much of the trip in the 75-80 mph range with a couple of "pokes" into the jail zone. Only 10 miles was in EV mode. 4,400 lbs of awesome! No other RLXs seen today. Lots of other Acura models of all types.

15,000 miles now

Warm weather has allowed better fuel economy, evidently, but most of my miles were during the winter.

Lifetime has crept up to 30.7 mpg, and I'll look forward to the summer miles raising it a little more.

:-)

Just filled up today. The tank was 26.2 mpg, which is best yet in the grueling daily neuronbob grind of city/highway driving. I have multiple, usually highway, jaunts of around 30 mpg but short city trips and my heavy throttle kill the mileage. I've pretty much given up on a whole tank at the computed CAFE average. It is what it is.

I'm in the same situation as neuronbob...my parents and inlaws live less than 5 miles away, so frequent trips of start, short drive, park have brought my overall mileage down to 28.3 mpg (8.3 l/100km) even though I have achieved over 37mpg (6.3 l/100km) on longer city trips going all the way across town and back.

Factoring in the stretches of "Sport Mode, pedal down, Wow this is fun" spirited driving that I enjoy frequently, I am thrilled with getting over 28 mpg as an overall average and I haven't even had my Sport Hybrid on the highway yet.

16,200 miles now but still holding at 30.7

I thought it might climb up a little more.

There's still hope.

10378 miles with an average of 29.6 mpg and still rising with each tank fill up. Every tank since the weather broke from the winter has been 30 mpg or higher. Pure local driving typically is in the mid 30s with exceptions into the 40s. Simply amazing! That kind of mileage with the luxury and performance included is a steal! I spent 4 hours today giving the car another once over with my extensive detail process. Looks awesome and the paint surface is very smooth and slick. Great depth to the paint and it really shows the metal flake embedded in the paint. I even hit the suspension parts and wheel wells too. Everything sparkles.

We had dinner early this evening at Tysons II. I parked my 2012 RL on level 5 of the garage near Seasons 52/Brio/Coastal Flats.

We came back out to the car and there were 2 RLX Hybrids parked right across from each other near my RL. Both had Maryland plates. A diamond white pearl and a pomegranate pearl with seacoast leather.

I guess you guys had a SHAWD Hybrid Father's Day meet!

You must have the lightest right foot there is. That is great mileage. Perhaps your fine detailing reduced the air resistance so much you have an advantage few of us will ever enjoy.

I'm at 8,500 miles with an overall mileage of 28.6. My best tank has been a little over 34 mpg. While not up to your standards, I am not disappointed. Given the power and smoothness of the car I am very satisfied with it.

The bottom line is the gas mileage of this car is secondary to the power, handling and pure enjoyment of driving the Sport Hybrid.

It's not that hard to do over short distances.

Note that in his image you can see that the drive was only 10.1 miles, and that almost 60% of that drive was in EV mode.

About ⅓ of my average is in EV mode, and I think this is a big reason why my lifetime is at 30.7 mpg and yours is much lower.

Most of my driving is *not* on the Interstate, so it's possible that you simply do not use the electrics as much as some of the others of us.

It really isn't a "def touch" that made that happen. I was just keeping up with the traffic on the two lane roads from my home to my destination and was not paying attention to it until I got there and noticed the numbers, thus snapping the picture. In local short trips I am very regularly seeing high 30's and mid 40's for mpg where highway is in the low 30's generally. This particular tank when I took the picture I already traveled 128 miles and averaged 32.1 mpg. The mpg is a real bonus to such a great car. I find that I rarely access more than 50% of its available power on a typical day, and 100% is only accessible for a few seconds because of traffic and speed restrictions.

I'm sure your are correct about not using the EV mode as often as you or RLX-SH. My typical EV use ranges from 15-30%. It is probably due to both difference in our driving habits as well as different traffic and road conditions. I guess if we average out all of are mpgs we probably aren't much off the advertised EPA ratings. Not that any of us really notice much but I know I am using a lot less gas than in my '05 RL. The main thing I do notice is fewer trips to the gas station. I think the time saving is more noticable and perhaps even more of a benefit than the money (especially since I purchased this benefit by paying thousands more for the car-- but who is counting?).

There's a dealer near there who uses Tysons as an overflow parking.

I almost mentioned this before, but the Maryland plates threw me.

On the other hand, if two of us from Maryland were meeting at Tysons, I suspect somebody would've mentioned it.
