RLX Seats
After having your RLX's for a while, how do you feel about the seats and the seating positions?
For some reason I've been getting enquiries from a variety of people and putting two and two together, I'm thinking that maybe Honda is thinking that a slight redesign might be in the offing, generally speaking, before selling a Japanese design in North America.
I'm 6'2" and 205#.
I think that people bigger than me might have a problem. What I'm noticing is that the bolsters on the front seats are a little close, to the point that someone a little heavier might feel confined or feel that he is sitting on the bolsters. I sort of feel that way myself.
Another thing that I noticed is that despite the extra legroom in the rear, I was slightly more comfortable riding for long distances in my 4G TL. It's hard to put my finger on why. I think it's a combination of a slightly different angle to the backrest, and a slightly harder cushioning.
Also, for whatever this is worth, I will venture to observe that the leather in my 4G TL smelled better [!]than the leather in my RLX.
Still liking the car very much. Just observing and suggesting for future designs that if we're selling a Japanese design team's car in North America, it might be a good idea to give the North American design team some opportunities with the car.

This isn't the first time they have had to do this. When the original TSX was released, the seat we eventually deemed too tight for the average American so in their MMC of that car for MY2006, they made the distance between the bolsters slightly larger to accommodate our lard-asses. I found the change less favorable since it made the seat slightly less comfortable for me, but I suspect it probably helped many of the more horizontally challenged Americans.
I think rather than going for a one-size-fits-all arrangement, Acura should look at seat with adjustable bolstering to allow them to accommodate a larger range of drivers.

I'm porkier than George -5'9", 205 lbs - (I'm "husky" ), and I find the seats to be fine. It took me a few days to adjust to the steering wheel/pedal/seat ratio, but after that it was fine.

That helps a lot. If you get uncomfortable, it's very easy to fix it without much trouble.

Something that has saved me on many long drives: It's very easy to make little stress relieving adjustments to all kinds of settings, steering wheel rake, steering wheel distance, backrest angle, backrest lumbar, seat height, seat distance....

At first it felt a little like I was steering from the back seat, but I soon adjusted to it.
I use the same technique for long drives ... change the seating position slightly from time to time to let the old muscles achieve different positions.

I'm a seat snob (and have only sat in the RLX) but I did find the overall comfort to be noticeably excellent. Interesting what you say about the smell - maybe they are using a more environmentally friendly tanning process. .

George, I'm right there with you, I'm 6'2" at 220lbs (need to shed some weight ) and the RLX's seats seemed OK but my long legs were asking for a more extended seat bottom. At least we have good headroom in the RLX

I am 5'10" and 242 (big-boned and toned yet comfortable in my skin) and I find the RLX seats, both back and front, to be more comfortable than my '06 and '10 RL. I feel a bit tight in my wife's '08 TSX but that is to be expected. Now, her RSX Type-S previosuly was a chore to fit into.

During the many miles (17K) both my wife and I have traveled in our RLX, and I can say after multiple 500+ miles at a whack I have never felt any tiredness or pain. Some accolades must go to the Heated and Air-conditioned seats and the near perfect ergonomics for our size and slight stature.
We are more the size of the Japanese designers and if my wife ever kicked me out of the house I would feel very comfortable residing in the RLX.....

Hmm, I'll have to pay more attention on the next drive. I honestly don't recall feeling confined by the bolster spacing. I'm 6'4" and 260. Wife (primary driver) is also linebacker-sized, but I won't post her height/weight lest I disappear from planet Earth without a trace.
Seats are pretty comfy for us both, and we've both recently discussed how the front cabin feels even roomier than the '10 MDX we traded in (which has a very spacious front cabin). I don't think we would've discussed that if we felt we were being confined by narrow bolster spacing. Dunno though.
I'll admit I do find myself making constant tweaks to the seat adjustments and re-saving the memory settings as I continue seek out that sweet spot. Can't quite put my finger on it either. Still overall extremely pleased with all the RLX is.

I think the RL & RLX seats are unheralded for best in class.
One thing I would hate to part with is my RLs seats. I often joke about adding them to my living room.
They appear unsupportive but that memory foam - like quality molds so well, I find them more supportive than my former TL. The TL seats were firmer, more bolstered, but I slid around in them. The RL seats seem to have a vacuum mold quality and actually hold me in place better when capitalizing on SHAWD. Another difference is that the TL has a lower seating position so your legs are more outstretched. The RL has a higher seating position, with more leg break at the knee. Being / Getting older, the TL was more effort for ingress / egress. Also the weight and turn in characteristics of the cars is different causing differences in driver feel. Lower / higher center of gravity, car weight and weight transfer in the turns all affect the driver's experience.
My short time in the RLXs was similar seats to the RL, although the head restraints are no longer pillow soft for rear impact regulations. But I would be interested in comparos more long term from members who went from RL to RLX. My initial reaction was the RL seats were slightly more comfortable. However, that may be due to the worn in factor / familiarity to my ass along with the headrest variances.

...I think I would be very comfy in the seats of the RLX because I am farrrrrrr from being the posted weight by some here *lol* I am starting to think that I may be too skinny.

5'10", around 165 pounds (I guess I am a lightweight around these parts), and the RLX seats feel quite comfy to me. I haven't yet driven one, so I don't know how much I'll get tossed around in the curves because of seat size.

I'm leaner than the rest of you. My short time in the RLX loaners I had were quite comfy. I never felt like I would slide around in turns or hard cornering. I was also in a bulky winter coat at the time which may have added to my girth. I had no complaints really. I slide around in my MDX seats with hard cornering. They are comfy for long trips though. From a body hugging experience, I prefer my TL seats. If I can manage to snag another RLX loaner over the warmer months...I can see how the seat fitment compares to my TL a bit better.

Just drove from New Jersey to Florida and back and the seats are extremely comfortable. My wife was raving about them.
