Talking Hybrid Oct Sales

October 2016 Dashboard

RLX 13 -45.8%
Q70 9 +12.5%
535ih 1 -50%
GS450h 0 -100%

Still impressed that 10-20% of the RLX sales are the hybrid. Of course, that is not saying much ........
Hopefully we get some MMC or FMC info soon.

It is interesting that Acura doesn't seem to consider the NSX a hybrid...it doesn't show in the hybrid stats. Have you looked the the NSX sales compared to the first year sales of the RLX hybrid? Perhaps that would be a better comparison. Supply side issues are also a consideration.

Statistics aside, both of these cars are rare birds

Likely due to the NSX only comes in one flavor - Sport Hybrid. The footnoted *hybrids have non hybrid versions. If you look back for the Honda Insight, which only came in hybrid flavor, it too was listed in the primary model line up section and not parsed to the *hybrid footnote.

I maintain, that if you are going to buy a RLX, go big or go home. The Sport Hybrid is the best secret in town. In a way I'm glad it is personally, but for Acura that is a shame.

Car Sales Quicken and Trucks Continue Momentum as American Honda Sets New Sales Records in November - Acura News

Car Sales Quicken and Trucks Continue Momentum as American Honda Sets New Sales Records in November

Dec 1, 2016 - TORRANCE, Calif.
  • Powered by both cars and trucks, American Honda and the Honda Division set new November sales records
  • American Honda and Honda Division trucks also set new November sales marks
  • Compacts lead, with Fit gaining 43 percent and HR-V soaring 132 percent above year ago levels
  • MDX sets November pace for Acura while RDX gets new November record
  • Acura NSX reaches another milestone
American Honda Motor Co., Inc. today reported total November sales of 122,924 Honda and Acura vehicles, an increase of 6.5 percent versus November of last year to set a new November record. American Honda trucks gained 9.9 percent for a new November record on sales of 62,737 units. Honda Division overall vehicle sales also set a new November mark of 111,308 units, rising 7.9 percent. Acura Division sales held fairly steady in November, totaling 11,616 units for a decrease of 5.1 percent.

Honda
Continuing to buck the industry trend, Honda car sales helped push the brand to a new November record. Fit and Accord led the way for Honda cars, with strong support from Civic. Honda truck sales maintained strong momentum with a new November record as HR-V jumped in triple digits and both CR-V and the new Ridgeline had strong sales performances.
  • Honda Division sales rose 7.9 percent on sales of 111,308 for a new November record.
  • Honda cars gained 5.6 percent on sales of 56,943 units, while trucks increased 10.3 percent on sales of 54,365 units for a new November record.
  • Accord, recently named one of Car & Driver magazine's 10 Best cars for a record 31st time, enjoyed a robust gain of 6.3 percent on sales of 27,182 units.
  • HR-V sales totaled 8,141 in November, a remarkable 132 percent increase.
  • Civic sales topped 25,000 for the month, gaining 1 percent and keeping Civic on track to set an all-time annual sales mark in December.
"Considering the continued consumer appetite for trucks and SUVs, we're excited to see Honda cars resonate so well with our customers," said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda Division. "This is especially gratifying considering the strength of our light truck lineup, as we continue to hit on all cylinders with individual retail buyers."

Acura
Acura light trucks continued to show sales muscle, with MDX leading the month of November for the brand and RDX recording best-ever November sales. On the car side, RLX showed an uptick while NSX reached a new milestone.
  • Acura trucks continued on pace to top 2015, gaining 7.6 percent with sales of 8,372 units in November.
  • Sales of the redesigned MDX rose 13 percent on sales of 4,622 for the month.
  • RDX had its best November sales to date, rising 1.6 percent on sales of 3,750 vehicles.
  • RLX sales moved up slightly in November, gaining 16.7 percent on sales of 140 units.
  • Reaching another milestone, the custom-crafted NSX supercar has topped 200 customer deliveries since sales commenced in May.
"Strong sales of the new Acura MDX demonstrate that our design direction and focus on performance is the right path for the Acura brand," said Jon Ikeda, vice president and general manager of the Acura division. "With the NSX and the MDX leading the way, we will take our entire lineup toward Acura's Precision Crafted Performance DNA."

192 (up 25%), 31 hybrids (up 100%!)

Go Sport Hybrid go! Only 235 sold for the year, though, as opposed to 250 in 2015. Looks like the PAWS RLX is at least temporarily rising, too.

^^^ 235 SH sold in 2016. I see about 60 NEW 2016 SH listed for sale. Looks like they built approx 300 as did 2014 MY. There are already approx 500 2017 PAWS listed (some delivered to dealerships, some in transit / pipeline. There are yet no 2017 SH listed (on lots or anticipated delivery).

I like the way the people continue to stubbornly report RLX sales, month after month.

February Brings More Sales Records for American Honda - Acura News

February Brings More Sales Records for American Honda
Mar 1, 2017 - TORRANCE, Calif.
  • American Honda continues record pace in February for total vehicle and truck sales
  • Honda CR-V raises the bar again, breaking February record with a 26.3 percent jump
  • Honda HR-V also nets a February record, gaining 28.6 percent
  • Acura RDX has its best-ever February, rising 6.1 percent as it continues to pace division
American Honda Motor Co., Inc. today reported total February sales of 121,686 Honda and Acura vehicles, an increase of 2.3 percent over February 2016 and a new record for the month. American Honda trucks also set a February record, rising 12.2 percent on sales of 63,989. Total Honda Division sales as well as Honda truck sales also set new February marks, with total Honda Division sales gaining 4.3 percent on sales of 110,822 and trucks up 15.3 percent on sales of 56,419 units. Acura Division sales were down 14.9 percent, with 10,864 vehicles sold in February.

Honda
The Honda Division continued its record sales streak into the second month of the year, gaining 4.3 percent on sales of 110.882 units to set a new February benchmark. CR-V and HR-V repeated strong January performances, driving Honda trucks to a February record as well. The Fit also gained in February while Civic and Accord held their own in a market tilting toward trucks.
  • Honda trucks set a new benchmark in February, gaining 15.3 percent on sales of 56,419.
  • CR-V and HR-V drove truck sales, both setting new February marks; CR-V sales were up 26.3 percent on sales of 31,898, and HR-V up 28.6 percent with 6,354 units sold.
  • Accord and Civic continue to swim against the tide, with sales cresting 23,000 and 27,000 units, respectively.
"The new CR-V is exceeding our own expectations with production and deliveries now fully up to speed," said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda Division. "It's clearly hitting a sweet spot in the market and complemented by HR-V at the entry level."

Acura
Acura sales continued recent trends, with the RDX enjoying its best-ever February. NSX also remained steady, showing no signs of the winter doldrums that can affect ultra-performance cars. And after a strong first outing at Daytona in January, the NSX GT3 racecar goes to the legendary 12 Hours of Sebring in search of endurance racing glory later this month.
  • Acura's popular RDX set a new February record, gaining 6.1 percent on sales of 4,029 vehicles.
  • Continuing a steady production and sales pace, 46 NSX supercars were sold in February.

Just thought I'd throw this here. I was looking at a 2014 used RLX SH in San Antonio that went on the market Tuesday. It was sold in one day. Of course there is some other lunatic like me that jumped on it first.... ha

Seems like the used market is going to be a bit hotter on these.

The 2014 Sports Hybrid sales seems to be doing better, I found two with black interior that sold just days after being listed and before I could even look at them.

I know the overall numbers in this segment are insignificant. But comparatively they are dramatic in the RLX SH favor. Why Acura is not capitalizing on this, especially to market SH on the MDX is a head scratcher for me. And with the decline in competitors, they do not add up to SH formula of Power + AWD + minimized penalty of the former (efficiency). As historically true, it appears Honda has again brought to market a product the market is not yet ready to embrace. Maybe these numbers speak (whisper) otherwise.

It does reflect there IS a market segment with focus on this type of premium AWD hybrid Exec Sedan (as small as it may be). But it appears to be primarily contained within the forum community.

Will they build MDX Sport Hybrid at the regular USA site, or will they have to come in from elsewhere?

Capitalizing on the KC2 RLX Sport Hybrid: I don't think it'd matter. That plant is being used for other things, and I still say that it has always looked to me like Saiyama was never set up for mass production of the KC1 and KC2.

^Interestingly, for those in the know who are searching used ones, if one is available in your town, you better jump on it. The likelihood is that only a couple are available at a time and those are usually not in a 200 mile radius of wherever you may be.

As you spend more time in the driver's seat the exclusiveness may fade. The more lasting advantage of being a Sport Hybrid owner is the smile you get each time you sit behind the wheel. Enjoy your ride and keep smiling.

Along these lines, is there a way to find out how many SH's were delivered to Canada by year (2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017)?

I'd be curious to know how many are on the road specifically in Canada...

I can't find a source that differentiates Hybrid vs non-hybrid RLX sales in Canada, but I have been told that roughly 50 per year were made in 2014 and 2015. Total Canadian RLX sales in 2016 was 107 units although I don't know how many were Sport Hybrids and how many were left over 2014's and 2015's. It is possible that they increased production of the Sport Hybrid slightly since they discontinued the PAWS version, but I can't find confirmation of that.

CR-V and HR-V continued their hot streaks, both blowing double-digit holes in their own March records while Ridgeline also made a notable contribution. "But cars are still a compelling choice for many, especially when you have the right formula. Civic is a great example."

Acura
Strong sales of Acura trucks in March continued to set the pace for the Acura brand, even as the company prepared to launch the MDX Sport Hybrid—the 3rd and newest installment of the brand’s high-performance Sport Hybrid technology—along with the Acura NSX supercar and RLX Sport Hybrid model. The new MDX is the latest salvo in the evolving Acura lineup prioritizing performance through both powertrain and design. And on April 11, a refreshed and significantly enhanced 2018 TLX will be revealed in New York, bringing the Acura Precision Concept-inspired design language to the sedan lineup.
  • MDX sales totaled 4,141 units in March, up 1.3 percent over 2016
"With the Acura MDX already posting strong sales in the luxury SUV segment, the new MDX Sport Hybrid adds a new performance dimension to provide greater market visibility of our performance hybrid technology and greater purchase consideration for Acura products," said Jon Ikeda, vice president & general manager of the Acura division.

Couple observations:
-Looks like folks are gearing up for the new Accord. The current gen is getting long in the tooth; it's been the same basic shape since what, 2008?
-Nice to see the RLX hybrid jump. That means more lease returns will be coming in the future.
-More NSXs sold v. the RLX SH -- almost double. On a car that's $200k. Wow.
