NJ Turnpike Potholes!!!!!!!!

Driving in the rain today approaching the GW Bridge after the Newark spaghetti, I hit another whopper of a pothole which wrecked another tire. Only 9,000 miles on the new ones and bang! A replacement is going on tomorrow morning. What a pain.

287 isn't much better, had 17" snow tires all winter, switched to 19" all season in the spring and 3 tires developed sidewall bubbles.

You know how there is a metal strip that is the leading edge between a bridge and the road? Well put a deep pothole filled with water from the rain in front of it so it is completely hidden, then run into it at 65mph. The car sounded like a tuning fork. Immediate ouch! WTF????!!!!! According to the tire shop, the rim was NOT damaged and the alignment remains perfect. Just a damaged sidewall. They are balancing the new tire as I write this post. I believe that Murphy's JD sucks. Also I believe that Karma is actually a woman. I was laughing last week with a friend of mine who had a similar experience with a new car. I shouldn't have been laughing at him. The bitch showed up at my door and smacked me. Thus I am replacing an otherwise new tire as a result.

LOL. Not at your predicament, but the humor displayed when we all know you are livid! Could be worse . . . . . . . sourcing one of those wheels which at cost is rather pricey along with alignment!

Yeah, I know, blowout and bent a rim on the RL a few years ago. 120 to repair the rim at USA Wheels in Fairfield.

So, we are in northern NJ and drive 14 Sport Hybrids. Do we both go into the city every day?
I know there are just a few of us so here's to seeing you on the highway!

Your new ride and mine are identical. Great minds. I'm all over the area usually, but tomorrow I'll be in Parsippany for a meeting. If you are out and about, and we see each other, that would be cool. I try not to go into the city unless I have to, even though my office is there. Generally I work remotely. These are very special cars. You will learn all of the different ways to lay into the throttle and some will surprise you when you get more acceleration than you are expecting. Be safe.

I lived in the next town, Denville, for a long time. My corporate parent is in Parsippany. But this will be a city ride, garage to garage.
Do you have a great independent repair shop? I've been a German car guy for a long time and am covered there.

I have had very few issues with my "Habu". Truly it is a tire and wiper repair only car other than various fluids at recommended times. You are going to really enjoy this car. Maybe I will see you out there on the road. If so we should shake hands to say hello. Be well my friend.

Check eBay - you may be able to find a replacement rim that's been reconditioned for less than that....

^^Agreed. You can get one online (ebay, etc.) easily for <=$275. The issue is do you have time to wait for it to be delivered. Time = money.

I remembered that I had the same thing happen to me a couple of years ago. I called the same shop I used last time and it will be done for $130 plus tax. Crisis averted.
