My first 500 miles

Purchased used 2014 RLX Krell with 10,000 miles on it. I've driven about 500 miles so far. My thoughts:

- Not as speedy as my 2003 TL-S.
- Bass on Krell system is not as "boomy" as my stock radio on 2003 TL-S
- I can't figure out how to disable the annoying voice prompts ... I know what track I'm listening to and dont need to be notified on what I'm listening to or the menus I'm browsing.
- I'm often blinded by the glare from the wood panels near the gear shift.
- I decided I don't like the paddle shifters. I much would rather prefer the manual stick as my TL-S as I drive with left hand at 12 o-clock and my right arm on the arm rest with hand on the gear shift.
- why cant both side mirrors fold down when in reverse? Its either left or right depending on the mirror select switch.
- kind of surprised at the bumpy ride. I'm used to the bumpy ride in my TL and it feels about the same.
- So much crap shows up on the Navi (gas stations, restaurants, hotels, atms, etc). it becomes very cluttered. I may stick with google maps on my phone.
- I love the roomy interior and the rear sunshades
- I love that I've only seen one other RLX in Austin
- I like the technology the 2003 TL was lacking: rear camera, bluetooth, blind spot, etc

At my age, it's a much more appropriate car for a professional. I felt like people would laugh at me in my lowered and aggressive TL. I laugh at men going thru obvious mid-life crises and pledge to never be one of those men.

Overall, I like the car and glad I purchased it.

Trust me, you'll get there, and you'll be considering a Corvette or Harley in due time. Book it! It happened to me at 39 and I have a S2000 in my garage now because of it. Now, I'm past the worst of it.

I dislike that annoying voice prompt, too. I've just been too lazy to figure out how to turn it off. I did try, but there were no obvious menu items to turn it off. It's probably something deeper that it'll take time to figure out.

It's probably as fast as your TL-S, but without much in the way of sound intruding to the cabin, it may not SOUND fast.

The extra stuff on the navi can be shut off. Voice command "hide gas station" bank, etc. to remove specific stuff you don't want.

Glad you're enjoying the car. It'll give you many miles of joy.

I don't laugh at other people's car choices

I have had sports cars since 16. So if someone laughs at me due to my car at 50 , well they didn't know me at 16

Also I do t drive a car dictated by my age or profession

I would probably be driving a white color Volvo then

It sounds like many of your issues could be solved by just reading the manual and setting up the car to your liking. The "crap" in the navi screen is user selectable. The voice prompts are user selectable. The bass levels in the audio system is adjustable (although the Krell may be less "boomy" that some systems, the clarity of the bass components of the music will be superior with the Krell).

We all love to jump in a new car and drive, but sitting in the car for a few hours FIRST and setting it up to your liking is time well spent.

To turn off the voice prompts i believe you should turn "Interface Dial Feedback" to off:

To choose what crap (icons) you want to be shown on the navi screen follow the directions below:

pgeorg if you have trouble in finding something in the 500+ Owners Manual I have a suggestion. Download a PDF copy of the Manual from the Acura website and then use a computer [or iPad while sitting in the car] to search for what you are looking for. It is a much faster way to find what you need than trying to thumb through the Owners Manual.

Of course the easiest way is to just post here and some of us geeks will search our PDF Owners Manual and get you an answer.

I used to refer to a mid-life crisis.

But then my employees seem to be fond of reminding me that not that many people live to be 122.

Malibu Flyer, no apology necessary! I know that you did not mean to direct it at me, i wanted to reinforce your point of having the manual in PDF with you in the car Excellent advice!

You could have gotten a GS F sport and had both. nice ride and respected car. I sometimes regret my decision getting the RLX (only drove it once) but I think It is the best bang for the buck.

I can't believe you are saying you sometimes regret your decision. After all the crazy posting you did going back and forth, driving to get it without sleep, now your questioning your purchase

Drive it and enjoy it!

Krava, the grass always APPEARS greener on the other side of the fence. You did your research, you made your decision, you bought your car for a good deal. Enjoy.

I don't think it is buyers remorse. Even if I would have gotten ANY other car I would have the same feelings. I got a car that works no problems at all. I would prefer for the thing to mess up first then I would feel good about getting another one. I am not looking forward to paying extra for the insurance on that one. I get to drive it tomorrow so that will be good. I would love to have a sports car like a Toyota supra but that doesn't exist yet. They might come out with a supercharger for the GS if they do then I did make a mistake. I want the power of the sports hybrid, give me another 1 second in the 0 to 60 and I should be fine.
