How many miles your RLX went in for the first service?
I am wondering at what miles most of your RLX went it for the first service?
Mine is at 5K miles still show 20% left on oil life.
And is the first service (oil change) free? If not, how much?
Thanks

^^this will all be dependent how everyone drives their car.
on any acura...the first service can anywhere from 4k miles to 8k miles assuming one followed the MID.
as far as the first oil change being free....that depends on your dealer and what they offer. usually oil changes go for $45 with dino...$70 with synthetic...or $24 if you bring your own oil and filter.

So modern Acura keep track of how you're driving?
How is this done, exactly? Is there a subroutine that constantly analyzes what gear you're in at what RPM, how often you're at what throttle position, how much stop and go you're doing and at what speeds, and so on?
Or is there some tricky way of measuring when the oil viscosity shows signs of breaking down?

guys in prior years have sent their oil into the analyzed by blackstone. what they have found is that the MID is fairly conservative in terms of oil life and how much is really left. kind of like when the light goes on for the gas tank. it goes on but you know you have about 3 gallons left before you start sputtering to the station on fumes.
the car however is not smart enough to tell the difference whether synthetic or dino was used.
i have owned my TL since new and have always followed the MID for it's maintenance without issue. now it goes by time since i'm not driving her as much. i follow the MID in the MDX as well.
if you are a planner and want to anticipate what the next service is for the car say at 30 or 40%, you can always check so you may anticipate what the car will need at the next interval once it hits 15%. the MID in my MDX is at 30% at 4500 miles....i just checked what will be needed and the upcoming service will be a B1.
as for the first interval...i have heard you want to keep the break in oil in the car for as long as possible, so it does it's business in the engine. so ideally wait until the car chimes off at 15%.

When I rode Honda GL's (12/15/18) I kept the oil changed at 3-4K and that always worked for me. Our lowest mileage trip was 5-6K and that included all types of terrain including mountains. I was always pulling a trailer on our trips, for all the wife's "Stuff", while she rode her own ST1300.
With the 09 TL and the current RLX (current 11.7K) I have stayed with the MID recommendations. The only time I change is when we are scheduling a trip and there isn't a Acura dealer in the neighborhood, then it's off to a Honda dealer. They all use the same oils and lubes.
I was just checking my mileage this AM and trying to get in-front of our next trip, which is to Vegas & Idaho in early March. That trip will only be 5626 miles.
I always stay on the conservative side (in regards to Acura dealers services and inspections) incase of an unexpected problem arises.
Sure enjoy this car for performance and creature comforts on the road....again & again..

My dealer says every 5K, but my oil life said 50%. Should I take it in for service per the dealers recommendation or the oil life indicator. My 2016 RLX HYBRID is driven under normal driving conditions

Funny you should ask that question. I just received a cold call from my dealers service dept asking me when I was going to come in for an oil change. My car just reached the 50% mark for oil life after 9 months and 5K miles. I politely told them they might see the car at the 100% life mark.

I'm also a proponent of following the Maintenance Minder when it comes to service, however, if you are a driver that doesn't put a lot of miles on your vehicle (like me), then I believe it is recommended to have the oil changed every year or so even if the mileage does not warrant a change. I put less than 3000 miles a year on my RLX, so the Maintenance Minder was well over 50% oil life when I went for my first oil change and service.
Just my two cents.

If I'm not mistaken, all RLX's in Canada come with 4 years/80,000km no charge maintenance (both my 2014 P-AWS and my current SH did). Assuming yours did too, did your dealer honour that service at no charge when the maintenance minder was saying you still had 50% life remaining?

Below is the note in the Owners Manual regarding annual oil changes
1: If a message Maintenance Due Now does not appear more than 12 months after the display is
reset, change the engine oil every year.

If you take your vehicle in BEFORE you get the service indicator, the assumption is the service folks perform some sort of reset? I typically will put less than 7K miles a year on my car, but will take it in on or about the yearly anniversary for at least the oil change and checkup. I find the Acura notifications and information pertaining to vehicle maintenance/service(s) somewhat confusing. Is that just me or is that my my middle age problem?

Under warranty I would follow the MID to 0% or 1 year which ever comes first. Every Acura/Honda dealership should be using 0w20 oil and 0w20 is only possible with synthetic oil and can easily go 10,000 miles between oil changes if not more. Once I am out of warranty I am going to take my oil(Royal Purple HPS 5w30) paired with Royal Purple oil filter to 15,000 miles regardless of time. I always get my oil analysed and it always comes back suitable to go longer. Just go to NAPA and get their oil analysis kit or find it on Amazon(Wix oil analysis kit) which is usually under $20 and its become a hobby doing analysis on all my oil changes.
