Finally...I'm in the club. Observations on "new to me" 2014 RLX SH

I took delivery of a white 2014 RLX SH Monday and traded in my 2015 TLX 4cyl tech. This forum is pretty much to blame, because after reading your glowing reviews of the RLX SH, it really killed the TLX for me. I knew I needed something bigger and the RLX was on the short list --- been looking for over a year for the right RLX to come along. So far, the car has not disappointed.

Thought I would throw out some quick observations:

-Everything you guys say about the power is true. Coming from the 206hp TLX, this thing is a monster! I laughed like a kid several times on the ride home blipping the throttle and feeling that power. I feel like the Road King in this car.
-This is my first hybrid and I am amazed at how often the ICE shuts off for EV. I drove about 1/2 mile in heavy traffic and it went from EV only to EV+ICE mode about 3 times in that 60 seconds. I'm sure that's normal, but odd when you've never seen it before.
-You can tell this car is a heavy car. You don't whip it around like the TLX, but it absolutely feels more planted. Point-and-shoot for the RLX is definitely an accurate term.
-Maybe it's me, but the brake pedal feels a tad bit higher than normal next to the accelerator pedal.
-The seats are noticeably more comfortable in the RLX vs. the TLX. The TLX seats are stiffer (although I do miss the espresso color).
-I have the Tech pkg and have some tweaking to do on the ELS, but I like the "intro" startup music when the car starts up. Also, the ELS is better in the RLX than the TLX.
-The infotainment is faster and the voice commands actually work in the RLX (mostly phone stuff).
-I miss Siri Eyes-Free from the TLX--definitely a big advantage there, but will figure out a suitable workaround.
-Absolutely love the power folding mirror feature.

I have a minor issue to work out with my dealer about the cabin and the prior owner (nothing the car did wrong), but otherwise, I couldn't be more pleased.

This is really all your fault, so, thanks a lot guys.

Ahh, the memories of my first test drive and after-purchase initial experiences. If you read my review shortly after picking it, it was eerily similar It's a fun car to drive - enjoy!

Congratulations mk5!!

As you "get to know" your RLX Sport Hybrid, you will uncover more of the dual personality - quiet, smooth cruiser on the one hand and surprisingly sporty "beast" in Sport Mode on the other. Keep us up to date on how your experience evolves.

I wish you all the best! After 64,000 miles I still love it. Other than the monster I am going to buy not too far out for dry weather fun purposes, this is way more power than most people will ever really "need". If you keep your foot in it for more than 5 seconds, you will have already passed every speed limit in the country with a few exceptions. In everyday driving I almost never use more than 50% of the available performance, but it is so nice to know that it is there when you "need" it. Enjoy!

Congrats on the pick up! Just wait until you pull up next to some unsuspecting fool in a 530i or e350 that gives you "the eye" and you leave 'em at the light wondering what Acura just embarrassed their pride and joy... And don't get me started on the audi guys with the ubiquitous 2.0 turbo that seems to be in every single model nowadays... suffice to say I echo the sentiments that most others have said that you really only "need" about 1/2 the power the car can produce but some times it's just fun to use the rest of it because you can.

Let me add my congrats. I was the first poster here with a Sport Hybrid. Now 3 1/2 years and 35,000 miles on my car I still enjoy the car as much. Your review reminds me of my first post here. You will put a smile on your face every time you slide into the drivers seat.

Many wonderful miles are ahead of you. Enjoy!

You might feel differently about "point and shoot" as you get to know the car better and become more comfortable holding higher speeds through corners.

"Slow in, fast out" never changes, but the relativity of what you mean by "slow in" will change, I am sure.

Taking account of the throttle lag becomes more instinctive, too. It's a problem. But you learn to anticipate it, or you know to just use Sport Mode.

Best of luck with it. :-) I'm keeping mine until 2020, I think.

Enjoy our new SH. It is one of the most under-appreciated cars being sold now. I am glad it has not been touted by the so-call car reviewers. A unicorn of sorts.
