Entering the RLX SH-AWD realm!

Hi there. Long time Acura owner here. Been active on Acurazine in the TL and MDX forums for quite a while. Starting at 5pm today, we enter the world of RLX Sport Hybrid ownership, so wanted to introduce myself to the group!

This is actually our family's 10th Acura since 1990 - largely owned/driven by my wife. Two early 90's integras started the journey, and then her 93 Legend L that she adored. At lease end she moved to a 96 RL that was just OK to her (too big, too heavy), that she kept until she moved into a series of Honda Pilots as our kids got older. Then earlier this decade she moved into her current car, a 2012 TL SH-AWD Tech. This was by far her most favorite Acura. She only put 55k miles on it over a 6.5 year ownership period, and loved every minute of driving it. For me, I'm on my 3rd Acura - all SUV's. '13 MDX Base, then a '15 RDX AWD Tech, and my current ride a '17 MDX SH-AWD Tech (my avatar picture). I love driving that vehicle for sure.

So how did we enter the RLX market? Wife always longed for one, as she didn't like the TLX changes at all. Every time I got a loaner for maintenance work at the dealer I'd get a TLX and have her drive it, and she'd fall back to her TL and say "I'm keeping it till I die". She thought an RLX would be a good progression, but was put off by the high sticker price, and she kept comparing it to her 96 RL, which she never really liked. So anyway, our local dealer advertised a CPO 2018 RLX Sport Hybrid Advanced that was a dealer loaner with only 1200 miles. This past weekend we went down and drove it, and from that point on her beloved TL was just old, moldy and something that took second place in her heart :-) The RLX is like butter when driving, and extremely fast. The minute we got back to the dealer she sat down to cut a deal, and within 20 minutes the deed was done. We ended up with what I thought was a decent deal - 2018 RLX SH-AWD Advanced with 1200 miles, full CPO, for $46,500. Given they had an identical '19 model for a whole lot more, she felt it was a decent deal. We had to wait until today to pick it up since the dealer hadn't gotten the title yet (their loaner fleet is financed remotely and they had to release the title) - so she's been anxious as heck to get it since the weekend.

I'll report back as to how she likes it after driving it a while, but wanted to start engaging with the group. Below are a couple of photos after the test drive. It's not prepped yet (detailed) in the pics, but looks pretty good even when dirty. :-) Happy wife, happy life!!!

Congrats Andy and Mrs. Andy! I followed a similar path from a 2012 TL SH-AWD but then went into a 2014 P-AWS RLX and ultimately my 2015 RLX Sport Hybrid.

It’s a great car - enjoy!!

mrrobato 04-03-2019 01:05 PM

Gorgeous car, super deal! I'm looking forward to her impressions of the TL-SHAWD compared to the RLX-SHAWD.

RLX-Sport Hybrid 04-03-2019 07:36 PM

You are going to love it. 28-32mpg (higher at times), and great performance. 0-60mph in 4.8 seconds, 13.6 in the quarter mile at 106 mph and enough passing power to get pulled over much faster than planned. Triple digit speeds are ridiculously easy to achieve, so be careful. Enjoy!

DanL07RL 04-04-2019 07:07 AM

Yes, KILLER deal. I recently paid$49K+ for one with 356 miles on it. You're gonna love that car!!

Wait until you do a full throttle standing start with "Sport" engaged....and be ready to have a handful!!

Make sure you have the brake hold on, and manually engage M1 to start out in first gear.

hondamore 04-04-2019 09:44 AM

Congratulations andysinnh!!. I hope your wife enjoys many, many smooth, quiet, smile-inducing miles in her new Sport Hybrid. It sounds like you got a great deal - good things come to those that shop around and wait for the right deal. We'll done.

andysinnh 04-04-2019 12:45 PM

Thanks, everyone. We were able to take delivery last night, and it's been a pleasure for her to experience over the last day or so. It is just so amazing how much smoother and refined it is than even my MDX, let alone the TLX which would have been the normal evolution from her TL. I'll check back in with her when she gets home from work today. Here's a couple pics from delivery last night - with it fully detailed and in a more sunny environment.

I have a Seacoast interior.

All I can say is I hope you're a "cleaner" when it comes to cars. :-)

My wife's TL had the Taupe interior - which is a just slightly darker version of Seacoast - and it stayed pretty clean over the years. Although that steering wheel and dash area near the start button is something I'm sure will need periodic attention ;-)

I have a 2014 so my steering wheel is black.

But you're absolutely right about the area around the start button. :-)

So fortunate to have a stable of these two beauties. :-)

Best wishes to ALL - I'm Larry - been owning & driving HP cars 55+ years - bought my 2019 ILX A-Spec in February - first non-manual I've had in decades!! Really like the DC 8-speed. Owned a number of Civics since 2012 - owned a '97 NSX for 15 years and 80,000 miles. Main reason I went for the ILX was a big surpise to me - when I "test drove" it, it clearly reminded me of the 1987 BMW M5 I bought new in 1987 and owned for another 10 years and 70,000 miles - when I checked dimensions and performance, what I found is that the 2019 ILX is exact SAME exterior dimensions as the 87 M5 - and even tho my M5 was RWD, 5-speed Manual and 256HP, the ILX matches it in 0-60 time of 6.7sec!!! M5 was 400 lbs heavier than the ILX...........what else can I say - it's very similar to driving my 87 M5 all over again!!! Love at First Drive

One quick addition that I found today (maybe some have noticed already). I drive in HEAT down here especially in Summer months - the A/C Ventillation System --- I've been running it in Manual, Outside Air, and Separate Temps - and have been noticing a "lo pitched rattle" when I'm driving - not Engine or Trans-related because no mechanical issues. I experimented today and found that - if I change the settings to AUTO which goes into Recirc Mode with Auto Fan and then SYNCH Temp settings - that the "rattle" goes away - thinks it's coming from the Duct Flaps that are trying to "blend" outside air to get indiv temp settings - and now that everything is synched, apperently issue is gone - began thinking I had a ventillation Fan problem, but now think it's in the A/C Settings - no info on this in Owner Manual

Hey yall i am a 1 year acura owner. i am a automotive student still learning how to work on cars. i currently work at Hyundai :yuck: I know its not my favorite.

Redlineshifter 09-03-2019 07:37 PM

First ever Acura

My brother had a teg, and I just traded in my 8th gen si for this fine tuned tsx wagon. So far lovin’ the car, feels good to be a part of the family and I’m looking forward to many years. I miss my civic, parting was sweet sorrow, but the tsx has filled that void and put a smile on my face that can only be brought on by some vtec revs.

Hi Everone

I am new to the forum, but recently bought my 3rd Acura. I started with a TSX sedan, upgraded to an 2008 MDX due to a growing family, and recently picked up a new 2019 MDX Hybrid.

I am really enjoying the MDX Hybrid, good combination of comfort and sporting characteristics.

RLX-Sport Hybrid 11-04-2019 01:22 PM

Welcome Ryan! We love our two sport hybrids.

hondamore 11-04-2019 05:02 PM

Welcome Ryan S. You got yourself a wonderful SUV in the MDX Sport Hybrid, my wife loves hers. Surprisingly, my wife is suddenly very aware of her gas mileage which is substantially better than her old '07 MDX (at least 30 mpg city versus less than 20 mpg previously). Enjoy.

neuronbob 11-05-2019 09:01 AM

Welcome! While there is a MDX section to the forum, the RLX Sport Hybrid guys are the OGs of the Acura hybrid world. We can offer solid advice about ownership. Good luck!

Hi All, first time owner of anything Acura. I have just purchased a 2020 RDX. Looking forward to driving it.

Moegy 11-12-2020 07:24 PM

Howdy from Utah. Purchased a 2020 RLX Hybrid this summer. Replacing a 2017 MDX Technical. Am very pleased with the power, the looks, the comfort and the ride. My Winter ride. Harley and two seater Roadster in warm weather. Thanks for the ad.

Nice Pick--up! Same color for my 18 RLX hybrid. Did you get the ebony interior?

Moegy 11-12-2020 08:58 PM

Interior is all black, seats and dash and rugs. Sets off the red.

hondamore 11-13-2020 09:59 AM

Welcome to the Sport Hybrid family Moegy!! You'll have lots of fun with your new RLX. Enjoy.

I did upgrade the pedals in my RLX to lighten up the interior a bit. The OEM black pedals almost disappears at night with the poor RLX footwell lighting. I had to call them to get the right fit for the +18 RLX.

I really like these. What set are they? There is no RLX option, just RL, and these do not look the same. In fact, none of the pedal pics look even remotely similar.

mrgold35 11-14-2020 06:18 PM

They didn't update the website when I ordered my 18 RLX pedals back in Jan/20. My point of contact was:

Robert Baylor
www.ultimatepedals.com
sales@ultimatepedals.com
(561) 798-6588 Phone

He should still have the final template for our +18 RLX. We had to go back and forth with several paper test fit templates before we go the dimensions right. They have different styles other than the frosted anti slip with or without rubber insert grips.

you are a gentleman and a scholar--thank you much for this!

jdpdata 11-17-2020 07:51 PM

@mrgold35 how was the installation process? Difficult? These pedals are a bit to aggressive looking for my taste. Wish they have pedals like our MDX Sport Hybrid.

mrgold35 11-17-2020 08:26 PM

These pedals are my third set installed. Ultimate pedals gives you a set of chrome screws, nuts, and bolts to use for installation installation. I ended up going to Lowes to get black nuts/bolts/screws to match the rubber inserts. The black rubber grips just pop in; but, that also pop out sometimes. I use superglue to keep them in place. I usually screw the racing dead and gas pedals directly into the OEM plastic with the supplied screws. I take the rubber cover off the brake pedal and can sometimes use the existing holes on the brakes to use the nuts/bolts to secure. The RLX holes in the brake were too small and I had to use my drill to widen them a bit.

Thanks for the details. Sounds like a PITA to install just as I feared. I'll probably pass on these.

I live in snow country. I believe these would be way too slippery in a manual transmission Miata.

Lots of trips to ski resorts and 7500-11,000 feet high altitude snow country out west in below freezing temps. The frosted grooved pattern provide way more grip with running shoes to hiking boots during wet/icy conditions than the standard OEM rubber covering. I added the rubber inserts for the looks and help keep mud/dirt from getting inside the grooves. Ultimate pedals do have a smooth aluminum and those would probably have less traction when wet or icy without the rubber inserts.

Hi there, new member here.

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...68342dcdb1.jpg

Just got into Accura a couple of days ago. Had couple another brand before, but decide to give Acura a try for the next couple of years.
The car I bought is a certified pre-owned 2019 TLX Aspec, SH-AWD V6

Lots of things the car are still ...counter-intuitive to me, hopefully, they can grow into me in near future.
