CPO 2014 RLX odometer does not match Carfax

After a month+ of searching and negotiating we finally put down a deposit for a CPO 2014 RLX.
The car looks and feels like it has few miles on it and I believe the odometer reading of 9950 miles. The car fax report, and all paperwork of the car however report mileage to be 10,027 miles. The car fax has the last service as being done at 10027 miles. This does not match the odometer. It appears there may be 3 possibilities here: a) odometer rollback in which case mileage may be a lot higher, b) a fat finger on part of service, ie a simple error or, 3) submitting to car fax that a service was performed and vehicle was conditioned and an approx mileage entered on report when in fact no 180 point tune up or conditioning was done. Anyone have similar experiences. I am most worried about an odometer rollback.

When was the 10,027 miles on the odometer reported, what date? If its fairly recent, and seems to be linear with other CarFax records, then it must just be a data inputting error. If this was reported say 6 months ago, I would suspect the car to be rolled back, and it may have much more mileage that is being hidden. How many mileage dated records are on the CarFax, do they line up?

There are about 4-5 records since the car was put in service as a fleet vehicle.
The last reported mileage was around 5k. The car was put up for sale recently on 7/15.
It does line up however I wonder why they wouldn't market the lower mileage on the odometer instead of the higher miles on car fax.

This happens because sometimes the service writer will take a customer's word for it on what the mileage is and they are wrong. Or they fat finger when they input it. I wouldn't let it scare you..."rolling back" the new odometers isn't as easy as the old analog odos.

Car Fax is a joke and a very unreliable resource. The mistakes that I see in their work is unbelievable. Just Google Car Fax complaints and you will see what I mean. I have an older Nissan D21 and the actual mileage vs. their reported mileage is over 19,000 off. They also report the truck as having three owners which is simply not true. Unbelievable best describes anything from Car Fax. Not worth the paper it's printed on IMO.

I was in for a B16 service a couple of days ago, and the advisor almost concluded the ticket with 180,000 miles on my car instead of 18,000.

Probably a 'fat fingered' mistake - you can always call the servicing dealer where that record was created and see what the repair order had for mileage on it. They probably screwed up

Thanks for all the feedback. Car fax is unteliable that I am sure of now. For fleet cars on which the service is done in house- what more can the dealer withhold from the carfax. I guess that would be the big risk with used. Good thing it is CPO and has plenty of miles/yrs of factory warranty left.

Nobody would roll back an odometer for 77 miles. It is a data entry error.

Odometers are rolled back to hide excessive mileage but it should be easy to see if the car has 100,000 miles or 10,000. In general, high mileage cars are rolled back to just under the end of warranty period so the seller can say "see, you still have 5000 miles left on the warranty, so the dealer will fix it if anything goes wrong.

Once bought, the first trip to the dealer will show the truth and the seller is long gone.

Is this a private sale or at a dealer?
