Competition compliment
Was filling up with fuel yesterday when a BMW 5-series owner came over to ask about the RLX. He said he never knew Acura had this model and asked to take a look inside. He opened the passenger door, sat down and immediately said much nicer interior than his car. Asked about AWD possibilities and I told him about the SH version. Was going to call around and I told him good luck finding one in Houston, let alone TX. He liked the idea of the PAWS especially for a FWD car. As he closed the door he noticed the KRELL logo on the speakers and then had to have a listen to the stereo. I pulled up SRV's "Riviera Paradise" to give him a idea of the quality. He left hungry for an RLX Adv SH. Acura's marketing has lost many sales.

Happens to me more often than any other car I have owned. No car is perfect, and there are things about the SH that I wish were different, but overall I am a very satisfied customer.

I'm shocked how many comments I get from friends and strangers raving about how much they like the styling of my RLX. Considering all the bashing that goes on in this forum regarding the RLX's styling (mostly based on internet pictures)...the only comments I have heard are of the "Wow, that is a sharp looking car" or "I love the lines of that car". These aren't from friends trying to be nice, but from strangers I've bumped into at the grocery store or guys in the parking lot at the golf course.
The interior has drawn comments such as "This is the nicest car I've ever sat in"(heard that one this weekend on the way to a football game) and "Geez, I just love these seats". The Krell audio usually gets a double take from first time listeners...along the lines of, "That sounds great...pause... Wow, that sounds really great... pause...That's amazing."
Maybe the Acura engineers and designers know what they are doing after all and those outside of the RLX's target market who bash the styling and design simply don't get what the RLX is all about (and likely never will). That, or they have never even seen one in person and just bash it because it is a low-volume model and thus an easy target for baseless ridicule.

I detail my car at least once a week - it's always spotless. Since getting it in April, I have only had one stranger comment on my car. Last week, I was pulling out of a parking lot into bumper to bumper rush hour traffic with my sunroof and windows open and the person letting me in said "Niiiiiiiice car!". That's it...

This is a very frequent thing for me. I'm not bashful about talking up the car. I had a TLX owner frown and walk away pissed at himself that he did not buy the SH instead.

Maybe he was frowning because he couldn't afford it?

At the risk of sounding elitist and a grumpy old grizzly guy, if a difference of $275 per month (best guess) between a $45k and a $60k car on a 60 month finance @ 1.9% would break the bank for a buyer, then maybe they should not even look at a $45k car. Hope I am not insulting anyone.

People on the tlx forum griping about $300 monthly leases etc
$275 likely is big deal to those consumers
Also are people paying 45k for those things? Reports on that forum is acura is selling them for 30-32k depending on whether you want tech package or not

Well I assume you get the point I am attempting the make. Here is another shot at it. Someone looking to buy a 3 series BMW is not going to cross shop it with a 7 series. However, the 3 series buyer might be envious of the 7 series car. Put it another way. If a home buyer were looking at properties that cost $1MM and that would be a comfortable purchase based on their income, and they found something that was $1.25MM, the price differential should not be an issue. If it would make a difference, then they should not be looking at $1MM homes either because they are already too close to the affordability line.

I did take a ride in my friends '14 BMW 5 series a few months ago and I was not that impressed with the interior layout or quality of materials. His inline six was TC'd but the lag was very noticable.

Compliment
Was getting gas yesterday and a random person complimented by RLX & said it looked sharp. Not bad for an 8 year old car.
