Canadian pricing for RLX - what a pleasant surprise!
I just saw the Canadian pricing for the RLX today:
Base CAD$49,990
Technology CAD$55,990
Elite CAD$62,190
The Elite is equivalent to the Advance model in the US, with Krell and all. So if you factor in the shipping charges of just under CAD$2000, it's really not far from the US pricing at all! What a nice surprise. In fact, the TL SH-AWD Elite has pretty much the same price as the RLX Base now.
If I remember correctly, that is a much lower price than the 2013 RL. I am very happy that finally Acura is trying to make US and Canadian pricing about the same!
I very much look forward to seeing what they will do for the 2014 MDX Canadian pricing.... hopefully they will close the gap between US and Canadian pricing here too.

^^ Do you think this has something to do with the Yen/Canadian $ ratio?

Colin, I am not sure what factors all go into the Canadian/US pricing difference, because the difference is not proportionately the same across the board. For instance, the Canadian MDX is about $10,000 higher than the US models! At the same time, the TL pricing difference has not been that outrageous.
Surely, the Yen/CAD ratio has something to do with it, but it just has not accounted for all the differences across the various models.
That said, if you look at the Cadillac pricing difference between the US and Canada, that is even more outrageous! Now, that has nothing to do with the Yen....!

It's a head scratcher for sure. The current MDX is made in Canada right? TL in Ohio, and RLX in Saitama. The next MDX will be Alabama.

Colin, you are right. It makes no sense! The current MDX is made in Ontario, and yet, the choices of trim and colours are much more limited in Canada, and the pricing is on average $10,000 higher here! So that's why Canadians are all up in arms - cars made in Canada are much more expensive to buy here than in the US! Go figure!
I really hope that the 2014 MDX will be similar in pricing to the US. Then the ironic thing will be that a US built MDX will be cheaper in Canada than a Canadian built one! LOL!
Anyway, the RLX is now very competitively priced in Canada. I think it will do very well indeed.

Thanks ostrich!! This news certainly gives me hope that the pricing for the AWD version could come in under $70K Canadian(or close to it) - in which case, I'll be a buyer. Finally Acura Canada has seen the light and decided to sell a few of these vehicles and let people see just how cutting edge the technology is.

Could it have anything to do with the fact that it is a FWD model and it probably wont be a big seller compared to the AWD drive model so they don't want to price it too high?

Looking ahead, I think Acura's pricing in Canada can only get more competitive because as of right now Canada has a strong dollar policy whereas the US is trying to destroy their dollar (printing $85 Billion/month).

The argument/rationale that I have heard in the past regarding ridiculously high prices here in Canada are only partly related to dollar exchange rates. They always complain that the "Canada specific" models, complete with bilingual manuals and Canada specific features/options are made in such small quantities that the price per unit must be increased. My argument against that has always been to give us the US models with an internet link to a bilingual manual and we'd be more than happy AND we'd be paying the same price as the US. My suspicion is that Acura (and every other car manufacturer) is simply topping up their profit margins and charging as much as Canadians are willing to pay. We've be pre-conditioned to blame the dollar, but the past 5 years or so, the dollar has had nothing to do with the high pricing.

Recently new Acura models are priced more similar to the equivalent US models.
RDX AWD $36 vs $41k
RDX AWD Tech - $40k vs $44k
ILX: $26k vs $28k
ILX Premium/Dynamic: $29k vs $30k
ILX Tech: $31k vs $32k
ILX Hybrid Tech: $34.5k vs $35k
For the MDX, Acura Canada has been offering $10000-$12000 incentives for a while. Is Acura US offering something like this also? Anyway, hopefully the next gen MDX will be priced lower in Canada. $48k for a base MDX AWD would be great.

Really, that's like 20-25% of the cost of the car! Never seen that kind of incentive in the US. Most I've seen is about $4,500 when sales were really slow on any Acura and about $9,000 on the Mercedes R Class, when nobody wanted to buy one.

They are losing money anyway on the RLX, so what difference does a little more make lol.
