The reason for the thread...i am noticing it is going to be about 5000 to 8000 extra for the advance package over the technology package.

For the 2016s MSRP difference is $6,000 for both the P-AWS, and the Sport Hybrid.

* Ventilated seats (seriously makes driving a whole different experience)

* Folding Mirrors / Parking Sensors (makes parking a LOT easier, especially with the size of the RLX. It is NOT a small car.)

* LKAS / ACC (what everyone else has said)


Don't forget that the 2016 Advanced also now includes:

* Heated Steering Wheel
* Integrated Remote Start
* 360 Surround Camera

The first two should have been included in the 2014 Advanced model. But I digress...

All additions that I think are WELL worth the additional $6,000. Especially if you're leasing. The difference in your monthly payment will be very minimal.

What is very interesting to me is that no one has mentioned the Krell system. At least on the Hybrid the only way to get Krell is to buy the Advance. I suspect that is the single most expensive part of the Advance package, yet not apparently the most loved.

For me I agree with other posters that the technology parts of the Advance are the reason i bought it [ACC, LKAS]. I also do really like the ventilated seats. The Krell is nice but for me not the motivating factor.

3.2cls6speedmt, one of the small things I consider when buying a car to keep for a long time is the ease and value of resale. One small reason that I bought the sport hybrid is that, in my estimation, hybrids are likely to become more and more popular/prevalent with the CAFE numbers rising with time. So, 10+ years from now when I sell my Sport Hybrid, it may be difficult to sell a non-hybrid because it is the predominant technology of the day. At least, that is my guess.

The same principle may come into play in your Tech vs Advance dilemma. 10+ years from now, ALL cars may be equipped with ACC and LKAS and so a Tech version of the RLX may be seen as a dinosaur at that time because it does not have technology that is considered a basic feature.

This is obviously only a MINOR point in considering which car to buy and your needs today and the price you want to pay today will determine your final decision. I only bring it up because I have seen the phenomenon play out in the past with features such as Antilock brakes etc, where those cutting edge features made selling a decade later MUCH easier and more profitable. Of course, you also get to enjoy the latest technology for that decade as well. That said, investing the savings realized by buying the less technology-laden car will also return a handsome profit, so both sides of the argument have their merit.

Good luck with your choice, you'll get a great car either way.

I downplayed the allure of the ACC and LKAS on a previous thread as I hadn't used the features in the first two months of ownership. Well I tried it out on the weekend and I have to admit, it's freaky cool. I suspect I'll start using it more.

Not sure if the Tech has blindspot detection (I suspect it does), but I like the feature and it works flawlessly in Acuras as it's radar based. I had it in my 2014 Nissan Altima 3.5SL and it was literally a joke. I ended up disabling it due to the number of false alerts. The Nissan used the rearview camera for the blindspot monitoring, so it didn't work in rain, fog, mist, snow or with a dirty lens or even your exhaust on colder days. If you ask me, inclement weather is precisely the conditions I want the assistance to ensure a safe lane change... Sadly the Nissan blindspot detection only worked on blue sky dry days when your car is spotless.

I also really like how the RLX seatbelts tighten automatically when you first buckle up, and then tighten against you in aggressive cornering or hard braking. Again, very cool and a nice reminder that the car has my back.

My kids love the power sunshade and rear heated seats and the side rear manual sunshades are handy for passengers on long trips.

The Krell is a nice crisp system. Hard for me to say if I like the sound any better than the ELS system in my 2012 TL SH-AWD Advance which I also loved. The Krell definitely has better clarity - the ELS was a deeper richer sound, but I'm not an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination.

I've always been of the mindset that if you're going to buy a car, you might as well get the top of the line one and really enjoy it. Virtually no new cars are cheap anymore so you're already spending a lot of money. Otherwise you spending a lot of money for eventual disappointment and regret

That all said, I didn't do my own due diligence to even know the RLX had a Sport Hybrid LOL. But I'm happy with my RLX Elite (Advance) and love the car.

not so sure about this one. Jury is still out on what 10 yr old (current technology) batteries will be like. That's why we leased our EV. I'm thinking (or hoping) battery technology will significantly change over next 10 yrs.

This is why I leased. The battery tech is so new that long-term reliability is uncertain. Further, How the tech will progress is unknown.

Thanks for mentioning yet another great feature on the Advanced models. I love how the e-pretensioner system works. Not only does it gently tighten up when you first get in the car and settle into your seat, as well as when taking tight turns, but I really like how it ties into the FCW system whereby it does three rapid (and somewhat violent) tugs on the seat belt to get your attention before an accident strikes. May as well have a damn silicone hand come out from the side of the head-rest and smack you right in the face!

Now that there are only 2 trims on the site, the Advance Package looks kind of anemic:

For me & my 2014, my must haves are: ventilated front seats, sunshades, dimming/folding side mirrors
Everything else is nice to have but not really relevant to me, except maybe the Krell system. I am not an audiophile so probably do not appreciate it as much as I should.

Remember that the way the website is setup, they only list the additional features you get with the next trim up. It states that the other features in the lower trim are already "included".

ACC/LKAS for sure. CMBS is a security blanket. KRELL is as my kid puts it "EPIC". So go advanced.

i have the krell package ... i'm not missing the extra features of the advanced ... i dont have acc, lkas, side dimming, rear heated seats, front vent seats, rear foot well lighting, parking sensors, cmbs.

I maybe wish for the parking sensors, mainly in the front ... they are not needed for the rear as you have a camera. I do get warned to break if something is approaching fast in front of me but it does not break for me. It does tell me that i've left my lane but it does not steer me back into the lane (this is good because there are lots of false alarms depending on angle of the sun). my wife's car has front vent seats but i dont like the way it feels on my nuts.

krell is a good compromise between the two.

I love all the features of my 2016 advanced package. The remote start is great for hot days to get the A/C started. The ventilated seats are also great for those hot days. The ventilated seats in my 2016 work much better than the ones did in my 2009 RL. I use the rear sunshade every time when I park in the sun. ACC was the reason I upgraded from my 2006 RL to my 2009 RL tech with CMBS. The ACC with low speed follow is a nice upgrade to the ACC in my 2009. I don't even look at new cars unless they have remote start, ACC, and ventilated seats. It is amazing how few cars outside of Acura actually have all three of those.

I like the heads up display in my 16 RLX SH...I'm surprised no one has mentioned this. When using the navigation system the next turn pops up in the display and so you never have to turn you head to look at the nav screen. I use all of the Advance features...I have noticed that the Lane Keep Assist in the 16 is less responsive than what I experienced in my 14 RLX Advance.

^ the feature you mentioned above is also present in the regular PAWS RLX, it just shows up in the MID in the center of the dashboard gauges instead of the HUD since there is no HUD in the PAWS RLX.

Most of us RLX'ers are used to the "turn-by-turn" navigation pop-up info by now, so not something we've really needed to call out.

the ventilated seats in the RLX seem pretty "cool", especially during summer months. On occassion if Im wearing shorts or thin workout pants, I have to turn it down as it can get a little chilly on the underside

It is the same with the HVAC. If it's very hot out and you've been working hard, the cold air gets very uncomfortable very quickly.

Cold sweat is very uncomfortable and not very healthy.

You have to cool down sensibly.

What I've noticed about the Ac is this:

I set Auto at 72, in the mornings it can be 85 outside and 72 isn't cool enough so I lower it to 70 and feels perfect.

On the way home in the afternoon, 70 degrees freezes me out, so I turn it back up to 72.

So, the hotter it is outside, the colder the cabin seems to get. I am sure it's normal but not sure why there is the difference when the temp is set to auto.

I still don't understand why the Advanced doesn't get HUD. It's silly to me that only ONE model has it and that model is extremely rare. *shrug*

You know, now that you mention it I have yet to see HUD on the NSX Sport Hybrid either.

Maybe there is an NSX Sport Hybrid Advance that we just haven't seen anybody driving yet.

Purchased the 2016 RLX PAWS Advance in August. After 2 months and a few thousand miles the Surround view camera and the Krell are the most appreciated. Still playing with the LKAS and the ACC.

Based on the current published specs, the only trim model mentioned is the "Technology" trim that has the ELS audio package and a "Sport Package" which has some interior carbon fiber trim options. So at the moment there is no mention of an Advanced trim. But the specs do state they are not final so maybe we will see an Advanced trim in the final production release that carries a HUD, Krell audio and other nicieties.

I wish the HUD had made it to the Advance PAWS. It is, in a word, awesome to have the speedo closer to my field of vision, and digital.
