Acura RLX Sport Hybrid vs new BMW 7 Series
Does anyone see signs of the current RLX Sport Hybrid in the picture of the new BMW 7 series?

I was reading a review of the 7 in the new C&D and thought exactly the same thing. Oh, it's bland and boring!!!

Even tho the 7 series is all new, S class leads that segment till new LS comes and gives it some competition

I'm by no means saying the 7 series should or does directly compete with the RLX-SH, but there are many things that similar between them in the basic components and measurements. The prices are very different though.

Are all 7 series now long wheelbase? It's about 10 inch longer than the rlx
I know Benz doesn't bring short and long wheel base to USA, it's all long wheel base
Our Lexus LS is the long wheel base and the 5 inch makes a huge difference

Granted that the wheel base is longer, but the width is almost spot on. The BMW has more measured head room and rear leg room, but shoulder room front and rear is near identical. In the real world, the inside automobile space would be considered arguably identical for most people. Now the styling is excellent in the Bavarian as is the Audi A8L. Again both the BMW and the Audi are priced at $100k+ where the RLX-SH is in the $60's MSRP. There is a huge value difference and you can be sure the Acura will be humming down the road relatively trouble free well past 100,000 miles while the others will be needing expensive and frequent maintenance at that point.

I know this forum has more than its fair share of love for the Sport Hybrid, but as a lowly P-AWS owner, I fail to understand why it's necessary to point out the BMW's resemblance to the Sport Hybrid when the exterior is identical to the P-AWS except for the badging and wheels (and I think the P-AWS wheels are nicer personally)... Wouldn't it suffice to just draw the resemblance to the RLX in general?
But yes, there are many similar shared traits.

I think the underlying point you are tying to make, most of around here already think it and agree with you on

I believe the 7-series styling is being criticized for the same reasons that the RLX styling gets slammed by it's critics. Both vehicles have very spacious interiors which results in a more "boxy" look on the exterior. At the risk of sounding like a broken record (for those of you who remember records), sleek, aggressive exterior styling CAN compromise interior space which is why both the 7-series and RLX were designed to be more "boxy" but with great interior comfort for their occupants.
My two cents.

I think most of us are old enough to remember the old vinyl disks ( I still have a few Beatles and Led Zeppelin in a box somewhere), but being a little grizzled means that we can offer respect to a design which is a compliment of sorts. There is only so much a designer can do to make a car shape unique and marque as a 4 door sedan has to maintain certain basic shape principles to accommodate the comfort and utility. Once you take the basic interior space as a box or data set and insert it into a design matrix, the outside shape can't stray to far. What I am saying is that the general inside space is very close to the RLX (decaf or high test), and that the outside silhouette at a glance looks like it has similar design cues. Who came first the chicken or the egg does not matter. But what struck me was the initial view of the picture was that it looked like what the next RLX might look like.

It's too bad those laser headlights won't make it to the USA. That's the one cool feature of the new 7 series I'm keen on seeing. Other than that, I'd rather have a 2-series if I'm after a BMW, m235i (RWD version) to be exact. That's a spicy little sports car that harkens back to BMW's small sports car roots.
