2018 RLX photoshops

Anyone catch these over on vtec?

The Temple of VTEC - Honda and Acura Enthusiasts Online Forums > Photoshops > > Re: 2018 Acura RLX rendering

Pretty hot if you ask me. Don't like the rims, but love the design. Looks a lot more like a proper evolution of the 2G RL.

Hondatalover - any chance of dressing her up in black (or graphite) and drop a different set of rims for it? Maybe something a bit more spoke based with more opening and less coverage.

It looks rather like a Chevy Impala, but with RWD-ish proportions.

It looks pretty good.

+1 on Acura hiring this guy, he's been doing a great job.

Edit: Timmy, I like your other render better but FWIW, JHMO, etc.

I think its the rims that make it look more like an Impala than the body design. It needs something with less surface coverage, like the TLX V6 rims or the 19" diamon cut option rims or the ones from the TLX prototype. Just something with more open space and less surface.

I also like the other design too, it just needs some modifications to make the front nose a bit more realistic. The proportions are off and make its look a bit unrealistic. I think it just needs to be shortened some and the headlights brought in line with the grill. Having them sit above the grill looks very awkward.

I do like how he used the high rear shoulders of the ILX design. That's one thing I've always liked about the ILX. IMO, the pre MMC ILX is by far the best exterior design to come out of Acura aside from the new NSX. Im always eyeing the wifes ILX in the garage. Just wish it had the luxury of the RLX

Absolutely. He knows how to capture "passion" and "excitement" in his designs far better than what Acura has been producing up till the NSX. The TLX prototype was the only other example that had real potential. Only to water it down in the final release to be a "nice" looking car...

I think the pre MMC ILX was the first time where they left most of the "excitment" and "sizzle" of the prototype in the design language of the final production model.

That is why I would bet against it.

I can't imagine changing directions at this point.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think so.

From the back it looks nice but it reminds me of a Lexus IS. I do miss the exhaust tips in the current design so this is nice to see again. The front quarter looks Mazda like which is cool. From the front this rendering looks like what the next TLX could be. The side profile looks the best to me. The rocker panels and the style creases with the trim is just about what I would want in the next generation. Nice design ideas. I hope Acura is looking at this concept.

I also prefer to see the front Acura emblem on the grill instead of the hood. It leaves the grill looking a bit empty.

I understand that they're copying the NSX, but I agree I think the emblem would look better on the grill. Regardless, I like the overall look..

Makes sense, still looks awkward, even for a sports luxury sedan.

This should NOT be the RLX, a full size executive luxury sedan.

This should be a 4 door "coupe" fighter (6 series GC, CLS, A7, etc.)

If you look at the window line/overall design, it is no where near sporty/sexy enough to be a coupe fighter (S7/CLS/M6)

Exactly, hence why the emblem looks awkward.

Even the "coupe fighters" listed keep a sense of "sedan" in its design (and all have their badge on the grill). Just enough to keep it classy, but mostly focused on the sport/sex appeal.

To be more clear, IMO, the above design above makes the RLX compete better with the cars it actually competes with, which are the GS, A6, E-Class, and 5-series. It gives it the visual appeal it lacks that the above listed competitors have. Especially considering every one of the above listed models have sportier variants that offer visual body design changes above and beyond a few tacked-on components.

I'm all for an Acura "coupe fighter", but it should not displace the RLX. The RLX just needs some more refinement to make it all that it can be. The "coupe fighter" would be best created as a seperate vehicle in the lineup to attract those looming for something like the S7/CLS/6-series and cost wise would sit right between the top-end RLX and the entry-level NSX. The car design shown at the start of this thread is NOT that vehicle. The second one that Hondatalove did (which Bob posted later) is what I think better suited for the "coupe fighter" status.
