Talking Thank You

From what I am reading, C&D seems wrong: the MDX hybrid can move on electricity alone.

I was just @ the dealership where they were saying they had no idea when it would come out and best guess was end of the year. I hope that they are wrong as we are looking to buy relatively soon.

My dealership told me a couple of weeks ago, that it will be available around March.

I don't know if its true or not, but all this info showing up in the system makes me believe they are correct.

I had heard announce in March with availability mid-year.
I'm looking to possibly buy one as well. Hoped they learned a lot from the RLX.

This says they're making them in Alabama. I thought all MDX production was moving to East Liberty.

Moved from Canada in 2013 to Lincoln, AL where it joins the Odyssey, Ridgeline, and Pilot in production.

Acura Moving All MDX Production to Ohio to Make Room for Honda Pilot

_Not trying to thread jack - I appreciate the info and look forward to the release of this vehicle. But if this is real then the VIN number stuff needs to change right?

Good catch. Looks like what I saw was old news by a few months. As the iutodd accurately said, it looks like the MDX will be produced in OH.

I think they have not made the move yet....

Looking at the VINs of the 2017 MDX on the dealers website, they still start with 5FR and B as the factory code.....

Arrow Thoughts

I am fairly disappointed that once again, Acura has not done much to visually differentiate its hybrids like Honda does. The MDX does not even get exclusive rims. It does get metal pedals tho.

The $1,500 premium seems like a deal but if you want to compare it to the RLX, the premium is $3,500 over the FWD MDX. A big jump from the $5,500 difference for the RLX. I ponder if this aggressive pricing means that they are going to build more/sell more than the 250 RLXs a year. For reference, the RX450h sells on average around 500 or so a month.

It has been curious how Honda has changed direction on the hybrid differentiation. When there was the Civic hybrid and the 1st V6 Accord hybrid, there was no significant visual differentiation. Then the 'look at me' Prius market took off where fugly was fashionably green. Honda tried to mimic that with the 2nd generation INSIGHT, but failed. Now badges with blue trim cues is the hybrid signature across most brands. I think Acura is trying to make SH a signature of the brand as is Quattro is to Audi. And by doing so they would not differentiate them, or at least only subtly as does Audi. In a marking angle, it is implied that all Audis are Quattro. Acura may be targeting the same tact.

I agree with you on the RLX SH pricing. The PAWS model is not enough car to justify the sticker, yet I believe the SH is more car than the cost. They put themselves in this quandary with the model launch debacle, so I have little sympathy. But the pricing gap of the RLX SH vs the MDX SH is broad. And the Krell Audio of the RLX alone (while excellent IMHO), is not a Bang & Olufsen level price gap filler. I expect Acura's better value pricing of the MDX SH is more based on expectations to sell more (being the brand and market segement success darling) and still undercut the luxury CUV (hybrid or not) competition

Alabama? Really? Must've made some changes there to accommodate the assembly of the electric motors and batteries.

I'm really surprised.

I had signed up on Acura site to be notified when Hybrid MDX was released. No such notice received.

Last night I was sitting watching TV with the Mrs. Well at least I was watching (NCAA hoops). She was on her Ipad. All of a sudden says she has built her 2017 Hybrid MDX on the Acura website. I acted like I didn't hear her at first. She was clicking options, comparing color combos, etc. She ended the conversation saying she didn't like the stock wheels, but preferred the optional wheels. Still shaking my head on that one. I hate to be one of the first purchasers. But that may be in the cards next month. We'll see.

Cool Black Copper Pearl

This color made its debut with the 2015 TLX. For 2017, it replaced that grayish green color for the MDX.

It is 1 of those colors that changes depending upon the lighting. In the dark, you would think that the car is black but with direct light, it takes on a brownish orange color. You get various degrees of the color depending on how much and what angle the light is hitting the vehicle.

I have been thinking about getting this color as it is something a little different, however, brown seems to be in style now and I feel that it will fall out vogue soon enough; so I probably will pass and just stick to basic black.

I've been told the Sport Hybrid MDX will be made in "very limited numbers", so it will likely take a while before any discounts start to show up.

My hope is that the relatively low price of gasoline these days results in fewer than expected MDX buyers opting to pay the premium price for the Sport Hybrid (not realizing the performance benefits outweigh the fuel savings) which will allow me to swoop in and get a reasonable discount on one near the end of the year. When they become available, I'll make a call to my local sales manager and draw a line in the sand for what I am willing to pay and then wait for him to call when the dealership and Acura are willing to make a deal close to that. I may have to wait for the 2018 model year, since the MDX is a VERY popular vehicle in my part of the world.

Just want to make sure everyone that is interested in the MDX SH knows, you are not allowed to tow anything with it.

5000 lbs covers a good range of recreational boats

You would think the Hybrid could do 3500

No pricing has been released up here in Canada, so I can't answer that yet. I really don't expect to get the same great deal I got on my RLX Sport Hybrid, but if I could get $5000-7000 off MSRP, I'd be very happy. Again, I may have to wait for a long time before I can get a good deal. I'm in no hurry, my wife loves her current '07 MDX and it has been trouble free (other than the glitchy adjustable dampers which were replaced at Acura's expense despite being 8 years old and well past warranty).

I've been thinking about a hybrid Accord or something similar the last few years as a 2nd car, but as far as I know, no hybrid has towing capacity, which puts it off-limits for us.

you are a limited customer and HMC doesn't care about those that want to tow...heck most 07 + MDX's with SHAWD NEVER SEE A DIRT ROAD much less tow.... LOL The 07 MDX "SPORT" was limited and marketed horribly. Sales folks didn't care about selling a vehicle that was limited and mostly sold by orders or off the truck....Sales folks wanted to sell inventory that was on the lot and they were NOT the Sport models....Its HONDA's mastered "LIMITED EDITION" BS.... (bend over and we gonna stick it to you if you want it that bad....). Just look at the RLX Sports Hybrid SHAWD model.....They eventually dropped SHAWD on ALL MDX models because most soccor moms never drove it off road or even tow anything and ONLY offer it in the ADVANCED model (sport replacement) at $60K plus... HMC is a very conservative company.....You are better off buying an American truck to tow .....
