I have a family member who has a 2014 RLX (not all wheel drive) due for its first transmission fluid change. Can anyone tell me how many quarts of ATF the drain and fill procedure calls for? I'm guessing its like every other acura, around 3.something. Also, It uses DW-1 correct?
Resources for this car are very limited so I would be very grateful for anyone who could help!
Thanks for posting that. I was able to change the ATF. I put in around 3.3 quarts and it's halfway in between the two dots on the dipstick. It's a shame the manual doesn't say how to read the dipstick but I am assuming the dots/holes on the dipstick represent the full and low fluid levels. The car shifts so smoothly now; the old fluid was nasty and burnt in appearance.
OP you should do the 3X3 method where you drain the fluid and refill it then take the car for a spin and go thru all the gears(PRND) then again drain and refill for a total of 3 times. This ensures all the old fluid gets out of your transmission.
George, living in the NE we have extreme swing of temps as you know. Especially living in NY and MA, sitting in stop and go traffic is very frequent (huge engine temps swing).
Aside from the owners manual suggesting to change the timing belt at 60,000miles if those conditions are met, I believe our engines are interference engines.
So if the timing belt does break, it will do extreme damage to the pistons, valves, etc.
I guess I am the type of person that likes to err on the side of caution........
Transmission flush is advised to do every 30,000 miles, or if you get the number 3 on the maintenance minder.
I always change it every 30,000 miles, together with a coolant flush. Brake fluid flush every 2.5 - 3 years......
Oh and the timing belt (including water pump, etc) every 60,000 - 70,000 miles.

My car is about 16 months old, only one oil change so far. The oil is now at 30% at 15,000 miles, so I figure it's time for the next oil change, and maybe a new cabin filter. Differential fluid? I live on a dirt road, so I"m driving about 2.5 miles on that whenever I head out with the car.
The miles are almost all highway, very little stop/start or commuting traffic in Vermont.
IMHO you should change the oil whenever the maintenance minder tells you....oils are much better today, and Acura uses synthetic blends anyways. No need to change it any sooner......
The only things you should change earlier (since you drive on a dirt road some), should be the air filter and pollen (cabin) filter every 15,000-20,000 miles.

How long do you plan to keep the car? Just follow the maintenance minder and your car will last you well over 200,000 miles. I personally like to change the air and cabin filter, brake fluid and transmission fluid every 30,000 miles, spark plugs, timing belt and water pump every 90,000 miles and coolant every 100,000 miles.
As for the maintenance minder do you have a PAWS car? I ask because with my hybrid the oil life monitor is just a dummy monitor and goes down by 10% every 1000 miles. It works out for me because I use Royal Purple HPS oil and like to change it out every 10,000 miles or 1 year whichever comes first and usually 10K comes first for me. For you just follow the OLM or change it out once a year whatever comes first for you and you'll have many blissful, happy miles on your RLX
No PAWS, just a 2016 RLX Hybrid Advance, purchased new. With my 2006 RL I just did what the maintenance minder told me, but the mechanic who changed the timing belt, plugs and fluids at 90,000 said the coolant was really brown and probably should have been done earlier.
So then I wondered whether other fluids (differential, brake, power steering, transmission, etc.) should be done earlier. My dealer says not to bother, but if it it's going to bug me he said to just bring it in as soon as the MM warning pops up, which is probably at 20% or so, if memory serves.
VT Skier, was your first oil change performed around 8,000 miles? I'm trying to figure out if your OLM is going down 10% every 1,000 miles or not. If it is you should be good for 10,000 mile oil changes as the dealer should be using Mobil 1 0w20 which can easily do that.
First (only) oil change was at 7,700 with 30% life left, give or take. I kept my RL for 11 years and 120,000, so I hope to keep the RLX for about the same.
I only gave up the RL because it had two accidents. Second was a deer committing suicide by car, and some dealers were heavily discounting RLXs that year (2016).
So I figured it was time, and I'm very happy with the decision.

Use a good quality synthetic oil like Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum, Castrol Edge etc and change it out every 10,000 miles and no doubt you will be able to drive this car for 11 more years! Good luck and happy motoring!!
