That is disappointing. I'm not sure I can wait that long

Well just did rear brakes on the 06 RL today, but don't think I'll wait until mid 2013. Really like the drivetrain, need more interior pics, but I think it's a gs350 f sport for now and a RLX in 2 years.
Really wish it would come out in the next few months.
The current model will be 9 years old if it is released as a 2014

In short, I'll definitely be in the market for a new car while making the V a weekend dirty pleasure. This could be it...once price and options are known.

As for the interior posted above. YES!

Don't get too far ahead of yourself with this debut.

It is a Concept. It is branded as a concept.

Although Honda typically introduced concept vehicles very close to the intended production vehicle, it is not branded yet as the production model.

With a 2013 availability as a 2014 model, there is plenty of room for for changes based on the response to the Concept model.

That includes the name, RLX is a concept name which may or may not make it to production. The wheels are very likely concept only, and even some content features, drive line options, pricing etc. are still to be ironed out.

That said, I like it. Not lusting for it, but it certainly does not offend me as Acura 2009+ has with the RL hack and TL. Do I like it more than my RL? Maybe some features, but not so much in styling. The interior looks much more German / BMW austere. The exterior IMHO is more modern, still elegant, proportional and should suit the target market. Expecting NSX styling excitement in this type of car is like expecting your nanny to be a stripper.

It may take me until 2014 to decide if my RL could be replaced this car. That kind of technology in drive line, steering and software alone will have to prove itself past the 1st model year before I plunk down a check. I would hate to give up the bulletproof car I now own before this one proves Acura has a formidable replacement.

Me too. I think it's a nice evolution. It's handsome and seems much more cohesive than the 2009+ models. I was concerned I might have buyers remorse for leaving and purchasing the CTS Coupe.

I do not.

This line made me literally laugh out loud and is so true, and a bit hot I must say.

Right on on this point too. While I have no doubt Honda will sort it out, it seems a bit too out there yet, although they have over a year to sort it out.

Agree with Tampa, not sure if i would trade my 2006 for something that has not proven its reliability and still not convinced about styling. Will see the real thing tomorrow at the. NY Auto Show and report back.

I agree...I think this car will be well received, especially if the new AWD system delivers as promised. The one thing I am not sold is the dual set of LED lights. On TOV, they have it listed as a TM item so its likely a done deal but when you look at it, it almost reminds me of the "Griswald" station wagon with like 8 seal beam headlights! Otherwise, I love it!

Gosh, I think I am the minority...To me it looks like a Buick with cool headlights. The wheels look like they are from Harlem. I'll pass...for $50-60k, I'll get an S5 Audi or GS.

You're back!!! I'm glad to see you still have the RL.

And I have to agree with everything you said. It's a nice car with very promising technology, but is it enough to bring people into the show room. The exterior styling is about as exciting as an Avalon and even that is getting a redesign. The only thing that is striking are the jewel led headlights. Only time will tell I guess.

Some pics stolen from the youtube video:

I like it. The body is very reminiscent of an LS640, but the features are distinctly Acura. That electronic cluster on the dash is ! I can't wait to give one a test drive!

I take it back. This looks very upscale in black.

Edit: One thing that seems to be a trend for every manufacturer is the lack of exhaust tips. WHY?

It looks great in black, in the video. I suspect it's one of those cars you should see in person, from a regular standing perspective. Conservative styling, excellent jewel headlights, elegant but not outrageous rear end, high tech, very Honda. I like it.

Meh. I can't say I'm surprised. The styling is overly conservative. There's nothing that sets it apart from your average mid-size sedan in the looks department IMO. I don't understand why they keep going this route. The car looks amazing on paper in terms of the drivetrain, fuel economy, and typical upscale Acura amenities. The interior is pleasant to look at, ergonomical and comfortable. The exterior is bland. And whoever the hell at Acura thinks those wheels look nice or even remotely compliment the body style should be fired. The wheels are horrific.

This is probably the only forum on the Internet that is saying anything positive about this car. Every poster on LeftLaneNews has absolutely trashed this car's looks.

How will it look riding on normal sized wheels and tires?

Part of my brain sees a bit of Equus in this car in the sense that it seems somewhat inflated, the sweep of the tail-lights into the side of the car, the roof shape of the rear 3/4 and the trunk, and the amount of creases on the sides.

I think the front end needs a little more umph. When you have the same grille across the model line, I see the lowest car on the rung. Hence, I see a giant ILX in the front end. Something needs to be done to better differentiate this car -- not just size.

Will need to see the car in person.....sometime next year!

Here's a question -- does this type of "RL" better rationalize Acura's lineup?

Welcome back TampaRL!

Actually, that is the correct length for the sleevess - just past the thumb joint

But why do they have the guy on the right with a belt buckle wiping the car?

I agree the color of the NY debut car does not give it a flagship presence. The black does better and me thinks would work nicely for Transporter 4.

I like many elements of the car, I see 7 series BMW and Lexus LS from the beltline to the roof (in profile). The tail is BMW 7. The flanks (beltline down) are more unique.

The nose needs more detail with the absence of lower foglights or LEDs. The 'jewel' LED headlights are distinctive and distract from the bemoaned grille (though not offensive as was power phlegm). I would like to see accessory LEDs down there on the lower fascia. It kinda reminds me of my 2005TL not having lower fogs, and seemed not fully dressed.

I see interior features are a step up and I expect the Acuralink Concierge is the next generation of Acura telematics which will mimic and evolve the former ONSTAR integration our earlier 2nd Gen RLs have. I am curious about these details. I don't like the steering wheel on this car. I hate black dashboards (as was my TL) and black only steering wheels. A wood option better be in the works. A lot of questions about night vision, Honda LKAS, multi camera views, 2nd Gen CMBS, etc, still need to filter down for the production model. The focus on the concept is how it is new and different. Interior features look to be easily leapfrogged in the current market. I will wait and see.

The space looks great, although not a priority for me as I like the current size very much. And it looks like this drive line is very close to the Honda Dual Note / Acura DNX concepts of a decade ago. I did expect, however, the mpg efficiency to be more. The Dual Note / DNX concept pushed 50mpg. And 30/30/30 seems too far a miss to me considering I can get 29-30mpg on long hwy cruises now. The 30mpg city is a nice jump. But I was hoping for something like 30/40/35 with those 3 IMA electric motors.

My biggest surprise was the 4 wheel steering. That should be an interesting handling effect with Sport SHAWD. My concern would be on tire wear and perhaps some Prelude SH owners might chime in.

It will be interesting to see how it is accepted as this market segment has softened in the economy and those unaffected still flock to the iconic models. Acura will need to carefully price it for the Smart Luxury concept to galvinize what Acura is to be. My guess is no more than $62K (full optioned). Anything more, even I would look elsewhere. Further, the most blatant aspect of my RL (and the least known & appreciated) is how well it is built and the materials used. It is the epitome of Honda detail that every details seems though and rethought and it is just so well put together. This car I expect will be another Liberty OH build, which concerns me. Being on par with TL assembly or just above it is simply not good enough. This car has to have the 'feel' my current RL has that I have yet to experience in newer offerings.

And if it does not sell well, I will wait, watch and validate it is an appropriate replacement for my RL and make opportunity with the discount as I did with my 06RL. It remains the best car I have owned, the best deal I purchased and at just 44K miles, hardly in need of replacement (although a second vehicle would likely join it in the garage).

I will let the Beta Testers purchase at top shelf price, aggregate the bugs for Acura to tweek and if year two proves it to be the next generation of 'schiznit', I would buy one.

Indeed.

Could this be a subtle attempt by Acura to acknowledge long time loyalists after a few years of cramming Keen Edge Kool Aid at the flock? I read that scene as Acura's apology.

Did Acura learn anything from the sales numbers with the sport arrogance (styling wise) approach?
