Wireless Charging?

Hi guys,

First time/long time. Thanks for all of the great info on the forum.

I can't seem to find either confirmation or denial of wireless phone charging in the RDX. Doesn't seem to be visible in the interior shots online, but I'm thinking that it may be in the storage under the center console? I'm pretty sure this is already available in Acura sedans.

Anyone know if it's available or not on the '19 RDX?

Thanks!

If the Accord has wireless charging, I think there's a really good chance that all upcoming Acura products will have it, or at the very least the option to get it (probably on the Tech trim and above).

Iím 95% sure I seen a review where they mentioned it will offer wireless charging. I think itís pretty much a given at this point in the automotive field.

Wireless charging without wireless AA/Car Play is only halfway there, but is better than nothing.

Yeah, BMW is the first to have wireless CarPlay. I'm hoping by the time my lease is done (2020), Acura will have upgraded their system to support that too.

What exactly do you mean by this? I'm missing something. Isn't AA/Car Play wireless via bluetooth or do you have to hook your device up to the system using a cord? Sorry, never used AA/Car Play before! Thanks!

Not sure about Android Auto, but CarPlay requires that you tether your phone to the USB port. As mentioned, wireless CarPlay is new and the only manufacturer that has it so far is BMW. It supposedly uses in the in-car WiFi to do the wireless after pairing it over Bluetooth.

Upper model TLX and MDX have wireless charging, so it stands to reason that the RDX will too.

I was surprised when I found out AA/CP were wired. Seems very strange they wouldn't have been BT from the start, but then they get to nail you twice with upgrades(corded then BT). I just put a Sony AA/CP unit in my Tacoma. It works pretty well, but it should be wireless for sure.

I do believe only BMW offers wires Carplay and then only in some vehicles. Corded would probably still sound better and not have any lag time. I just wish there was a more hidden area to plug it in like the armrest instead on just some random spot.

Wireless Charging

The new RDX does have wireless charging. See pic below. And really love the black interior on the A-Spec too. Photo credit Gallery: Up-Close with the 2019 Acura RDX A-Spec ? Acura Connected

So based on the owners manual it looks like wireless charging is not offered. Agreed? Or am I missing something? Would have been nice but definitely not a necessity or gamebreaker.

Acura probably holding back items for the MMC. The TLX didn't get wireless charging until the MMC.

Hard to believe based on the photo above. It clearly shows a wireless charger. So who knows?

Nothing in that photo shows a wireless charger. That little door opens to reveal a USB port. One nice thing is all the USB ports are 2.5A so charging should be fast.

So did anyone figure out (definitively) if it has wireless charging? New owners? I have not had a chance to go to the dealership (yet)

Thanks, guys.

Seems a weird tech omission on a new model.

Ive always thought wireless charging was pointless anyway. Mostly only newer phones have it and you have to connect the phone for Carplay and AA anyway. I have wireless charging in my TLX and Ive never used it.

If I recall, many of the wireless chargers makes you remove the phone from certain phone cases as well.

Still seems like a mistake when the much cheaper Accord offers it.

When wireless CarPlay becomes available then I'll be more concerned about having wireless charging since I'll be plugged in for that all the time anyway.

I still have an iPhone 6S Plus with a Mophie juice pack external battery pack that also has micro USB and wireless charging capabilities. The Mophie case protects the phone, 2X my battery life, and I can recharge easier with micro USB or any wireless anywhere. I would just add any wireless charging pad in the space below the shifter and toss my iPhone with Mophie case there to charge (some Mophie charge platform have a magnetic base to hold the phone in place when charging).

Not for nothing, but is this really a concern, since you have the accessory power outlet right there, so, either way, you should get the necessary power.

I prefer to lay the phone on the mat in the empty space to charge as opposed to plug it in. Since Acura was too lazy to add the wireless charging I will use the wasted space for something worthwhile. I put my phone in that location as the area in the upper console is actually not so useful. You may see if you buy the RDX instead of the BMW X3 what I am referring to. Storage has been extremely diminished in this RDX version.

USBs output 2.5A so as long as you are below that (one pad was 2.0A) you should be good. Note the manual says you may get noise through the radio when using these. Comments like that really make me wonder about Acura.

Most likely is just an acknowledgement/warning by Acura that some devices are extremely noisy when it comes to RF generation. I have dash cams in all my vehicles and it's appalling how noisy some of those power supplies are - in all my vehicles, not just one. Change to a different power supply and the RF interference goes away. This has been true in Hondas, Cadillacs, Toyotas, Subarus, ...............

It must not be easy to isolate power and signal in a USB

Wireless USB charging isn't very efficient and it waste more power compared to wired charging. Wireless charging is like standing 2-3 feet away with a gas nozzle and trying to fill your tank with gas. That is were the RF interference (spilled gas) comes from.

Works great for my phone at home. I dont have any issues with it when I charge it. It isn't slow and I have no delays so it seems to work as designed. It will be fine for the auto as well I suspect.

Wireless charging doesn't charge the phone much if hardly at all if you are actively using GPS or music. And you need a sleeve.

I have played music for ny phone and it still charges more than uses. Not sure what phone you use but my phone manufacturer has no issues with wireless charging and it is fast and quite efficient. I can be fully charged from 5% battery life to fully charged in 50 minutes. Of course, longer times using the phone while.on the charger.

Wireless charging is not offered on the 2019 RDX in any trim or option.
I had a rental with wireless charging (Cadillac XTS) and found that it didn't work well; I just plugged my phone in after awhile (Samsung Galaxy S8).
