What Age of people own 3G RDX’s

Please only vote if you actually own/lease a generation 3 RDX, the poll is anonymous!

So I’m a young guy, 27, and I noticed that when I was at the Acura dealer everyone there was older, and I mean like 50-70s. When I see people driving Acura’s out and about they tend to be older also. So I’m just curious what age of people have been buying this car

I got the Blue A-Spec and I love mine, with a few minor issues of course but nothing major

In General; Most young people do not have the funds to buy a $40- 50k car, thus why you see older folks who are more established in life buying these kinds of vehicles...
You dont have to be curious as it's just a simple case of demographics...

- know your target audience.
a) Target audience is not 27 year olds. (you are an exception)

In addition to the financial aspects of buying an RDX, there is also the practicality. I see posts about car seats fitting in the RDX, and I will admit I have one to haul around one of our grandsons, but when we were in the child raising years, we drove (cough, cough) minivans. You can maybe get away with the RDX with 1 or 2 small kids, but one of our daughters is in her early 30s, with no. 3 on the way, and she just got a Pacifica. Now that we have the means and the time to travel, the RDX fits our older lifestyle just fine.

I knowingly and willingly bought a brand new 1999 Buick Regal LS when I was 26. I actually chose it over a 1999 Honda Accord EX because for the same price the Regal was quieter, more comfortable, more powerful, and had more features. I've since owned 29 vehicles in 29 years of driving. I typically trade every year or less, but I kept the Regal for seven years - that's longer than any other vehicle I've owned by far - a testament to my satisfaction with it at the time.

My daughter has 2 boys and she drives a Pacifica. It's nice that we can all fit in there too (4 adults and 2 kids in car seats). Nice van.

Currently I am the only one in the 50-59 range. The reason my wife and I have a gen 2 and gen 3 RDXs is because we are taking our parents places and they were having a hard time getting in and out of a TSX Wagon and a TL. Just more practical for us.

I was debating whether to choose the 50-59 range or not. We got the RDX a few months before turning 60, and I wasn't sure it I should answer the age we got the RDX or our current age. That was also part of the reason to get the RDX, life is too short. We also haul around my 93 year-old FIL, and the higher stance is nice. He was so impressed with all the new safety features on our RDX that he went out and bought a new RAV4.

I went to an SUV because I had major knee surgery 3 years ago, getting in and out of the RLX was very difficult. As Justn said, it has lots to do with demographics.

I could have went with a full size SUV but I like the size of the RDX. It's easy to maneuver in these ever smaller parking lots and spaces!

I am 68, retired and purchased a A-Spec as I have had a CL and TL some years back and never had a problem. I love the A-Spec as it has been SOLID and a blast to drive. I have it in Sport Plus mode ALL the time. I am not the retired person that buys a sporty car and drives like a snail. Infotainment system has some quirks as does Apple CarPlay but no big deal. I live in the mountains, the handling is awesome as well as grip around all the roads. I leased it just in case, time will tell if its a keeper, if not, I walk away.

one of the very reasons why my mom has a little CUV thing...because its easier to get in and out of.

Honda/Acura REALLY knows their demographics. They've studied this FOR a long long time, OP.

They've got the Accord wrong tho...
I may know why its not selling....may have to do with the 7 million sub-prime borrowers who are 90 days late on their car payment( which btw, is a much much more entertaining subject than "whats the age of RDX owners")

Isn't that crazy? All these risky lending practices. That is the next "bubble". Seeing people driving BMW's, Audi's, etc. and having a $40K a year job leaves me shaking my head. I have more debt than I like but I have never been late on a single payment.

I blame the leasing industry for much of it.

I just don’t understand how people could change out a lease every year. Cars are not like a smart phone with much less upgrades in a year refresh. I upgrade my iPhone every year through Apple Upgrade Program and each year the features diminishes. It become less and less appealing to get a new phone just for a year cycle. But for cars? Volvo attempted to copy smart phone upgrade model but I am wondering how successful or traction they will get.

I purchase all my vehicles, paid them off and drive them over 120k miles plus before I consider sell/trade in for a new one.

It is crazy 😝 that the average car loan is $34k range and >60 months term. Spreading the car payments out to increase affordability is just plain stupid. Oh well I guess that is just the American way. The question is when will it bursts!

Folks are are buying bigger and less fuel efficient vehicles. With gas $2 a gallon that is no big deal but when it’s $4/gal they start screaming 😱. People just don’t learn.

Add me to that list 3 years ago, plus a torn muscle/tendon in the opposite hip that continues to give me grief - SUV/CUV makes the most sense from an access point of view in addition to the other benefits.

I am still in the biz just had to switch away from the big engineering firms (Fluor, Jacobs, etc) to smaller companies. The big guys are offshoring most of the work now to India and the Philippines.

As my profile says, I'm 67. Been driving Crossovers/SUVs (not large ones) since we bought our 2003 Highlander. We did have an 07 and an 09 Camry Hybrid...they was mostly driven by my wife. Arthritis has made it a necessity since about 2012. It is hard to get in and out of low slung cars. Since 2013, only crossovers for both of us. Rented a new Camry for a week vacation last summer, and we both agreed no more sedans!

Of course, we had minivans when the 3 kids were young, our first being a Dodge Grand Caravan in 1989.

Since we were married 42 years ago, we have owned way more cars than necessary (I think 62) some were project cars, some I bought to restore, and some were bought for the kids. A couple were only owned a couple of weeks. One was only owned 3 days. Long stories.

A fresh and healthy 45 year old here.

This last year was the start of my "I earned it". After years (1994-2018) of driving practical Hondas (1 Civic, 4 Accords and 1 Pilot), I went fully luxury-sport mode on mine and my wife's new cars.

Very happy driving the RDX. I've stated in past posts that I really wanted to buy either a BMW X3 or Audi Q5, after my wife selected the GLC. After driving the Acura, I was shocked how much I liked it.

Same here on this account; I don’t have kids, but do have my parents and both in-laws. Thankfully my mom and dad still can drive, both my wife’s parents do not. They all like the back seat comfort.

My dad is 5’9”, and can sit behind me and feel comfortable. He actually stated the site lines from the rear seat are really nice, that you can see the whole road ahead clearly from the back seats.

That however only only increases the argument on which roads to take to church Sunday AM between my parent and me. The same roads I grew up driving, and the same church for 40 years!

I've never leased a vehicle in my life. I pay cash. I'm addicted to newness. I wish I had the self-discipline to keep a vehicle more than a year or two.

The Volvo subscription program has been successful. They're expanding it to including an additional model and possibly CPO models.

But you still can fart, right?

My dad, what a great farter he was; he could pass without a blink of an eye. And he never blamed the dog, or anything. Though, it is true, we didn’t actually have a dog, but.....

I guess I'm one of the few that's 27.

I like sedans but NYC roads suck ass and driving to snowy ski resorts is always nicer in an SUV. Also driving for longer than 4 hours was physically hurting...so more room, higher seating position, and better seats should help.

I thought this sums it up well. It's been mentioned in this forum before. For the record, RDX is my top choice and this is not a flame....

"It’s not that Acura is a company that’s about making “bad” cars, per se. But Acura is a company for people who have secured their place firmly in the lower middle management of life, and are content never budging from that position. It makes cars for people who have done okay in life, and that’s fine, and maybe they want to treat themselves, but they can’t sacrifice things like reliability or practicality for anything crazy like “fun” or “so help me God I am so bored I could die.”

It’s a car for people who, when they’re feeling really crazy, reach for the Diet Sierra Mist. Every night. And every night, at dinner, which they’ve cooked at home, they always make sure there’s a salad, and when their spouse reaches for the stash of Little Bites brownies in the back of the pantry in their all-white kitchen, they say, “you sure you should be eating that?”

That is who Acuras are made for."

And, this is pretty much the reasons why SUV/CUV is so popular in America. However, there is really no reason to have 8" ground clearance in NYC roads. I've seen model 3 and Imprezas in ski resorts. Hell, I drove a rear-drive hatch Nissan for years in the snowy great lake area of upstate NY (and as a result became a great winter driver)

@27, you will have plenty of chances to "need" a SUV later in life when you have kids and needed a family hauler without succumbing to a minivan (assumptions made here about your status) so if you really like that TLX, go for it!

If you go over to the thread about what car did you come from, you will find a greater range than the article implies.

Thus why the age question gets old. (Pun intended )

The better question; how many years of monthly payments do y'all have left

I purchased a 2019 RDX Advanced yesterday, after driving a 2013 BMW X3 for six years. Very impressed with the gains in technology in the last six years. I figure life is too short and i should treat myself. Very impressed so far.

@27, you will have plenty of chances to "need" a SUV later in life when you have kids and needed a family hauler without succumbing to a minivan (assumptions made here about your status) so if you really like that TLX, go for it!
Oh yeah I love how the TLX looks, but...this might sound stupid - I got into an accident in my sedan on the long island expressway when I was a new driver. Two motorcycles cut the Ford Escape in front of me and short stopped, causing the Escape to short stop, and I ended up rear ending that car. The motorcycles drove off, and my car ended up with $11,000 in dmg while the Escape only had $300 in dmg. That's when I realized in any accident, being in the larger, higher up car is significantly better. Hahaha so that also contributed to my decision too. Nobody drives intending for an accident but it's the what ifs.

Just keep in mind that almost always, front end damage is much more expensive to repair then rear damage. A LOT more expensive components in the front.

Besides that CUVSUVs have an advantage with being higher providing better visibility over sedans...until all vehicles on the road are CUV/SUVs! LOL

Oh definitely! I just didn't expect to have to pay that much more though! It was explained to me that it was bc of all the sensors they had up front.

Still, it taught me the valuable lesson of leaving room between cars hahaha.

I do love the higher seating position but it's something I need to get used to!
