Rear differential fluid

Good day,

I was wondering has anyone gotten their rear differential fluid changed yet?

I just got my 2nd oil change done, and the dealer recommended for me to get that done. i only have 11k on my car i thought it was kinda early for that.

I think it is a maintenance minder code item, but the thread above mentions some mileage suggestions (I recall seeing it in the owners manual). If you are handy and want to save some $$$ see the above thread for the how to.

It gets done earlier than the norm the first time.

I believe with the sh-awd you do have to replace fluids more often but what I have heard is about 15k for the first time and every 30k, but not 100%, the maintenance minder should tell you when it’s due 11k seems super early unless your towing

If you tow or drive in the mountains frequently, it is recommended to replace rear diff fluid at 7500 miles, then every 15k miles. But the MM won’t indicate this, you ( or dealer) need to do it independent of the MM. It is an important service for these vehicles because of the design of the rear diff. Normal service interval should be roughly twice this “severe service” interval: @15k miles, then every 30k miles, as indicated by the MM.

No towing done lol.

Also, here in the northeast the winter has been light. So im not sure why they're telling me to change it now

Buying many cars over the years I've had numerous dealerships (domestic and foreign) hand me a 'recommended' maintenance schedule at the time of purchase that suggested doing twice as much, twice as often as the manufacturer's schedule. The only benefit was to the dealer's bottom line. Fortunately this practice isn't as prevalent as it once was but it's still there just a bit more subtle in it's presentation.
