I wonder what this will have, hopefully some fixes

Interesting that the dealers are updated via WiFi and not a usb stick. Makes me more confident to do at my home because I know my WiFi is gonna be better 😂

i69fstop 12-06-2018 02:47 AM

Great news, hopefull AA is included in the update

nyr726 12-06-2018 07:30 AM

do we finally get android auto ???.

Gate 17 12-06-2018 07:34 AM

Will it include a Bugs & Fixes list?

NSXFTW 12-06-2018 06:06 PM

I just received the first email with step-by-step instructions to make sure the wifi connection is setup. Glad to see this is finally happening!

Dizzyg12 12-06-2018 06:22 PM

So by this, which was linked in the email that came out today, it sounds like you’re able to use a usb, but it almost sounds like you need to first put the usb into the car and then a computer to download the update and then back into the car?

USB Updating

Download the update files from the server
  • Press the Home button.
  • Swipe right the touchpad A to display the App Lists screen.
  • Select System Updates.
  • Select Via USB. A notification appears on the screen.
  • Connect a USB device into the USB port in the console compartment. The inventory data is copied into the USB device.
  • Remove the USB device from the USB port.
  • Connect the USB device into your computer, and then download the update files. Follow the link to download the required software update files.

That's how I read that, also.

I haven't received an email yet.

Yes you first put the USB drive into the car (I did this a few weeks ago). It then copies some “inventory data of the car” to the USB drive. You then put that USB drive into your computer after unplugging it from the car. On your PC it puts a folder on the USB drive labeled “rb”. Double Click on that folder then double click on the “LinkFileForHondaWeb”. That will take you to a web page and in my case it says “Currently there are no software updates for your vehicle”. I’m guessing that come December 12th there will be an update there for people to download that has the update.

After downloading that update you’d put the USB drive back into the car to complete the update process.

I read the email from Acura as giving both a Wi-Fi update or a USB update method. I had never been able to update the maps with the USB so I'm hoping that the Wi-Fi method will be more reliable. I have already setup my Acura on my home Wi-Fi network. Looking forward to the 12th.

perfect! I wonder if usb is quicker than WiFi and less likely to crash or timeout and brick the system.

This is is a stretch but I want the ability to have different colors backgrounds!!!! I want to set it to a red back ground, wouldn’t be hard for them to add

tangible 12-07-2018 07:03 AM

I’m glad to see that the timing of the update is at the customer’s discretion, not pushed out automatically. We’ve all seen even the best software companies mess up a release even after extensive beta testing, and I’m not aware of any beta testing at all in this case. I plan to wait a few weeks to see how my braver forum-mates fare, and maybe wait for the .1 release.

I got this same email, too. Only difference is mine came with a picture of my blue Advance, not the A-Spec like yours. Nice to customize their emails like that...lol.

Excited to see what updates are going to be under the Christmas tree. :D

Madd Dog 12-07-2018 07:31 AM

Mine had my car model and color on it too. However, I think they were too familiar in using my first name; we are not exactly friends.

Just got my RDX last week - but did not get this notification. Where did you receive this? As far as wifi, do we have a limited amount of wifi available or unlimited?

MD.

You know they are trying to develop a relationship. They should have asked you first. :)

The notice came in our email. Make sure yours is registered.

My wifi is logged into my home system. I suppose that is why updates are USB too, since many people can’t log their cars into their home systems. AFAIK, you might be mixing up the in-car wifi which is based on ATT cellular with the ability of the car to log on to wifi directly, either at home or somewhere else.

EFR 12-07-2018 10:13 AM

Hmmm...I have been registered for over two months and didn’t get an email😟

As did mine. I thought it was just coincidence since it seems that a white Advance is shown quite a bit.

Four months here and no email either. I opened a ticket this morning, just in case the update is VIN specific.

The new software D1.0.7 was in the October & November builds as a few users have reported. Thus they have seen it in some of the current vehicles.

but it’s possible this new one is an even newer sofware version

The RDX can also update over its 4G LTE connection if you don't have Wi-Fi or want to mess with the USB method and have a paid or active trial subscription for the AT&T Hotspot.

Interesting. I suppose that using your phone as a wifi hotspot and signing into that with the car should work too.

You could also crash into a Starbucks or Panera and use their wifi.

It's interesting that there is no mention of that in the ( nicely customized ) initial e-mail announcement. But supposedly there will be a follow-up e-mail forthcoming.

If you get the client WiFi working in the comfort of your home garage or another site you routinely visit, allegedly the system should alert you when an update is available.

kboo74656 12-07-2018 05:42 PM

Got my email a few days ago for my A-Spec about this coming update. The email had the correct pic of my car. Mine is set up to download the update via my home WiFi. Side note I'll be glad when this 15 day trial/waiting period for new members is over so I can update and add pics to my profile and posts!!

Hey Wander! I’m in Waukesha, WI.

Two tests you can run from your phone browser that is connected to your vehicle's home wifi network while sitting in your vehicle to see if you have a well performing wifi connection before you start to download: bandwidthplace.com and speedtest.att.com. Just because your infotainment screen shows wifi connected does not mean that it won't be very slow with a lot of transmission retries. There can be weak wifi spots around the property. These tests should help answer that before you start.

You may need an Owners.Acura.Com account. I think the dealer should have set that up for you, but you should be able to do it on your own. Once you have an account, you can register vehicles with VIN.

Vehicles also need to be registered for AcuraLink, but in my experience AcuraLink and Acura "customer service" don't speak the same language. I'm not sure they are even on the same planet.

This is excellent advice, but I would advise going no faster than 5 mph when implementing it. This will allow the guys that take up all the tables because they’re too cheap to rent an office to escape without injury.

I have what is called the earlier software 1.04, am registered with both Link and Owners and am 2.5 months of ownership and no email from them on the upgrade.. Two of two service writers were clueless at dealer...hope you are right and can just do it on your own.

I am also on the earlier software 1.04, and I have been registered with both AcuraLink and Owners site for over 4 months.

edit: I just checked the owners site, and under Email Communications Preferences, Product Information and Updates, the box for the RDX was not checked. I wonder if that’s why I did not receive the email.

Madd Dog 12-08-2018 07:59 AM

I am on the earlier software, and registered, and did get the email.

Maybe there is no good reason why some did not get it.
