New RDX Versus New Passport?

The RDX takes up almost as much space in my garage as my Pilot did. The difference in length is only about 3 inches and the overall width is about the same. But no comparison in internal room and cargo volume. And the driving position and visibility of my Pilot is as good as any vehicle I've ever driven. But it's a box. A big glass box.

And for some of us (ahem...older folks...But "sounds" seems to be 100 years old ) the step in and seating height is higher on the Pilot vs RDX and likely even higher on the Passport, making it harder to enter the vehicle. Doesn't the Passport claim to sit higher than the Pilot? I don't have need for the extra cargo capacity.
The rear bench is higher in Pilot, and the front seat is probably a bit higher vs RDX ( or current MDX ), or so it seemed. I assume Passport is similar, since it's basically a cropped Pilot. But none of these vehicles are like an old-school body-on-frame SUV. And that's a good thing.
Anyway, a tall door opening improves ease of egress and ingress, especially for those with uncooperative spines. Sedans, and especially low-slung sports cars, can be a literal pain in the neck. Having said that, some cars are worth it!
I agree 2019 RDX is no easier to park than my previous 2016 Pilot. Actually, the impaired rear visibility is a huge detriment, barely salvaged by the camera system and cross-traffic monitor.

I really meant the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Pilots were big glass boxes. The Gen 3 and the new Passport, much less so. Certainly not your father's "Honda Isuzu".

The one thing I wish they would do is seperate the top grille from the bottom section. It's just a bit too extreme. Rather they should tone down that lower trim piece and move the grille up 3 inches. Then it would go from looking good to being pretty attractive IMO.
Otherwise beautiful vehicle, congratulations!

Hey it's still good looking, I actually really like the rear end too! That mild change (probably during the face lift) would help it look even better.
hahaha hey they aren't nearly as ugly as that Lexus is. 😂😂

Well, it's nice to see a functional roof rack. But now you need to properly accessorize:

As for the dainty nose of RDX, it may look nice, but it can't take a hit!
Some random piece of road debris thrown up by another vehicle just did this. At 35mph! WTF?

It will get fixed. But there's otherwise not a scratch or a door dent on the thing. Figures.
But it does make me wonder about this trend toward hard plastics at the front end of vehicles. It's especially a problem for the painted parts. Painting the part is just as expensive as repairing or replacing it.
Sorry for the thread jack, but it does kinda factor into how the vehicle will get used. I wonder what materials adorn the front end of the Passport?

It's all about pedestrian frontal crash safety. The smallest accidents literally cause the front to fold like origami. A few years ago I was rear ended by a Mercedes S-Class (was driving a Hyundai santa fe) and as I got out of the car to see the damage, I seen his car first and it was literally crumpled as though it hit a wall. I was expecting the worst for my vehicle, I look at it and literally all he did was scratch my bumper and bend one of the exhausts. It was so mind boggling to see the damage difference.

I think this has more to do with incompatible crash beams. The higher ride height of the Hyundai caused the Mercedes crash beam to slide under the Hyundai's. That's why the exhaust on the Hyundai got bent while the hood (which provides no structural rigidity) of the Merc caved in. If the Merc would have been the one getting rear ended, I'm pretty confident the Hyundai wouldn't have a whole lot of front end damage, whereas the trunk of the Merc would have a massive dent in it.

Awesome, but no "spinners"?
As for other spinning thingies, my last Pilot came bundled with an RES that played Blu-ray discs or DVD. So not completely obsolete ( but for the record, yes, they still sell DVDs ). Apparently, not every doting parent thinks their toddlers should have a personal computing tablet to hurl at the driver or use as a bludgeon against their siblings. Funny that.
Thankfully, my offspring have moved on to higher levels of combat, and they haven't yet procreated, so I have a bit of down time from toddler pacification.

Now if you only like watching your smartphone or iPad that's a different issue.

I don't see what's wrong with having an RES? Its a great option for kids. They love them. Any don't tell me your parents if sitting in the second or third row, wouldn't enjoy a movie while on a trip. DVDs are not the only input. It can be a USB device, in car wireless service, or your smartphone mirroring, etc.
