No it would not and I do not believe it is even an option to have it done by your dealer. It is designed to be a DIY.

Did the “super fast” download over a few hours. In accessory flashed updating but noticed on the usb it said “no data”. So now what’s the deal? I’ll run it for about an hour plus and see what happens.

Interesting, I just checked mine and I have version 20180216. Looks like some vehicles have more recent maps from the factory than others.

So did I, but this updated to current.

Installing the downloader was a problem, but everything else was smooth but slow. A bit over an hour down, and about an hour to install.

Mine was the same. I believe I have an early VIN so that may explain our early map.

Mine was built in early September with a VIN in the low 13,000s and it is also 2018.02.16. Regardless of what we have, the good news is that the new update will put us all on the latest map version. I would have not known there was an update available without all the great contributors to this site. Thanks to all for sharing.

I updated my maps once already, in early July. My RDX was a very early build ( purchased "opening weekend", VIN in the 2000's ), so it probably had 2018.02.16 from the factory, and it updated to 2018.06.17 in the first pass. That update got pulled a few days after it went live.

Well I left it on accessory mode and after 75 minutes the car was off. A new map display is evident and I went to Menu, Help, to see if the update took effect. After a few seconds it flashed back to the new map display and was unable to display the current map settings. Well guess will take it out of the garage later today to see if it works itself out. Think I’d better start crossing my fingers now.

BTW, the update instructions say to use a 32GB usb drive. I used a 16GB drive and it worked fine. The map download is 13.9GB if I recall correctly.

I did both. Plugged it in with the engine on, rode over to where I go for a walk and left it in accessory mode, came back and started the car and before I got home, it said it updated. Stopped for gas, turned the engine back on, checked the version date, and it was current.

I am gonna say do it while you are driving so you don't risk draining the battery or the car shutting off by itself.

I updated yesterday and everything was fine. Today I got a message that my navigation needed updating when I started the car and put a route in. It said to check update procedure. I cleared the message and checked the map version and it was 2018.10,18 same as it was yesterday after the update completed

Performed update yesterday. Started RDX, inserted USB, took nice drive with roof open (it was mid 60s here in NY) and finished in about 52 mins.

removed USB and restarted RDX as instructed and all is well. So far, nothing bad to report.

Does anyone know what may happen if the RDX was turned off (as in not in ACC mode) while the update in taking place? Will the update resume when power is returned?

Second question - if left in ACC mode in order to complete the update will the vehicle turn itself off when the update is completed?... or is it necessary to monitor so as not to kill the battery?

I'm probably being a bit overly concerned here but would rather not come out to a dead battery, or worse a dead vehicle, at a restaurant 20 miles from home.

Acura and Honda will tell you that if the vehicle is not left in the ON or running position during the entire process, and the process gets interrupted, you can brick the NAV. Sounds like a few of you have been lucky. When I update my 2018 Accord, I sit in the car for an hour while its running until it's completed.

I have updated via disc both ways. In my TL I let it run over several days of when I was in the car. In my wife’s RDX (14) I had the engine on for the entire update.

Actually, for 2019 RDX they explicitly state that the update should resume if the car is driven normally and power cycled during the update process. Same for 3rd-gen MDX and every other Acura or Honda with NAV that I have owned. A smartphone or TV, this is not.

Having said that, my experience during the last round was that it didn't pick up where it left off after a power cycle, it just started from scratch. And I'm impatient by nature when it comes to tech, so I just force it.

BUT I have bricked batteries with the car "ON" without the engine running. And letting the battery voltage drop during the update DOES put the electronics at risk. So if you're going to do the update without the engine running, Honda/Acura suggests hooking it up to an external power supply. For their repair facilities, I think it's more than a "suggestion".

If you choose to live on the edge, make sure the headlights, blower fan, seat heaters, etc are off, or suffer my old battery's fate, you may.

( In accessory mode, those things shouldn't be active, unlike "ON" )

If you are a Mac user, I was unable to download the nav update using Mojave OS; had to use another Mac running High Sierra.

My map update took about 45 minutes on Friday after I got home from work.

After starting the update only in Accessory and Accessory/On (engine off) modes only, I decided to call ACR to hear what they would tell me as to how you're supposed to do this thing given that the online instructions were sorely lacking in specific details.

The ACR agent told me right off the bat the engine should be running the whole time because of battery drain when in Accessory mode. I told her I tend to agree, but the map installation guide on acuranavi.navigation.com said the engine didn't need to be running. She then looked at the same thing I was looking at and agreed there's a contradiction. So, she put me on hold while she checked with an engineer, who said the engine should be running.

So, I just sat there in the car on my driveway with the engine running and used the time to learn more about the Infotainment Center while I waited. Right when I decided to go driving around the neighboring areas instead of just idling on the driveway, the alert came on the screen saying the map update was finished (sooner that I expected after reading people say theirs took well over an hour or so).

No idea what the difference is between what I had (2018.02.16) and the new version, 2018.10.18, as far as what I see while navigating -- nothing looks different -- but trust there's new stuff I should be glad is now on there.

Oh, I did ask why my car, which only very recently rolled off the rails at the factory with single-digit miles on the odometer, come shipped with the February map version. She checked with her senior managers and the answer was that the navigation unit itself was probably manufactured and configured on or about February and was then fitted into the car while it was was being assembled in September-October. (I said to myself, "why isn't it a thing to make sure the latest map version is installed at the factory before it got onto the trailer, or at the very least, during pre-delivery inspection?" There was a June 2018 update, after all.)

Anyway...

Just updated mine - took a bit over an hour which had me concerned because others were reporting about 45 minutes. I was just pulling into my garage and was going to shut the engine off and give it a try some other day when the notification message popped up saying it was complete. Restarted the engine and the version now reports 2018.10.18 so all is well.

I suspect the longer time may be due to a couple of factors: 1) I had the Nav maps showing all the time I was doing the install and 2) the flash drive may be slower than what it's supposed to be (took almost 2 1/2 hours to down load the update and that's NOT a factor of my internet speed). Need to do some testing on the drive.

PROBLEM WITH DOWNLOAD: I installed the HERE Downloader with no issues but it will not download the map update to my USB Drive. I have a new Sandisk 64 GB drive and I keep getting an error message saying" Use only Fat-32 Formatted USB" on the HERE popup screen. The Sandisk can be formatted in either EXFAT with different unit sizes or NFTS. I have tried every EXFAT/unit size combination but get the same message.

Would appreciate any help getting to the finish line on this one.

The HERE downloader (and maybe the RDX head unit?) requires a fat-32 formatted device - as you have found out. You don't say what kind of computer you're running but if it's Windows based Fat-32 isn't presented as an option when formatting anything larger than 32GB. This article will show you some alternative methods. (If you're running an Apple system I can't help.)

MI-RDX: Many thanks for the assist. The executable file that you recommended allowed me to download the Map Update to my USB with no issues. I am running Windows 10 (64 bit). Will do the install later today.

Argh. I'm on Mojave. Shame on me for being up to date. I'm going to bet updating the software to be compatible is not high on Honda/Acura's list.

The update has been pulled from HERE's website. I don't think it's Apple's problem.

FWIW I got curious and attempted to download and reinstall the mapdownloader app and download the maps under Mojave on my primary Mac. ( I think I had successfully done the recent map update under High Sierra ).

Under Mojave, the installer stuffed the mapdownloader app into my user Applications folder rather than the upper level disc Applications folder ( which probably explains why it no longer needs Administrator privilege ). But the app hung with a spinning wheel when it tried to access the USB thumb drive. I'm not sure if it's a permissions problem, and since the update disappeared from HERE's website before I got back to it, I'll probably never know.

That was my experience as well in Mojave; my download in High Sierra took an extremely long time to complete; kept timing out. Once complete, took about an hour to update the system with engine running.

Success

Today I installed the new update via a USB 3.0 16 GB USB drive. Everything went off without a hitch, form downloading via the supplied downloader to installing into car. I plugged the USB drive into the car then and then the update message flashed then dismissed automatically. I then drove around a bit then parked and left car to continue the steathy update procedure in accessory mode. What sucks is that there is no progress bar or really anything to let you know that the car is indeed doing something with the update you just let it brew and hope for the best. In my case it took roughly 45-1 hour for everything to finish.

Yes it's true progress bar do you can see if it's actually doing the update, but what I learned is if the update is not working within a minute or less you will see a warning pop up, that says error updating..if not means you're good to go..

Do you guys think the map update is based on VIN#? I was hoping its generic update file which can be use on any other RDX if the database version is same.

Successfully downloaded update on iMac w/Mojave

No issues for me downloading the HERE update on my iMac running Mojave. I did have to click the download button twice. Once for the downloaded application and the second time to download the maps.

I did also have to right click the application the first time, and selected Open. This is common when the signatures aren’t quite right.

My update (eventually) went ok, shows 10/18, but several times I had a "Maps out of date" message when entering a location. Odd...

It is (was?) VIN specific. Somewhere in the various web pages it says that.

Does this update change the color of the car marker during daytime scheme, so it’s not the same color as the background (white)??
