The Motor Trend article is actually good news since it announces that the RDX is a finalist for SUV of the Year. It's not clear how many finalists there ultimately will be but so far in addition to the RDX there is the Ford Expedition, Jeep Wrangler, Range Rover Velar and Volvo XC40.

After reading the reviews of the competition, I'm confident the RDX will be the winner. This gives the details of MT's testing methods: https://www.motortrend.com/news/2019...-introduction/

With that said, I would think the RDX deserves it but I'm calling Volvo for the win on this.

I find it funny that all the reviews have complained about the soft brakes and infotainment. For the brakes, I'm not driving formula 1 courses with the car. They are better than on the vehicle it replaced and have not bothered me. The "learning curve" on the true touch interface isn't so bad. I am mainly in Car Play, so its just an old school touchpad for me and I can live with that. It seems that all the infotainment on every new car pretty much sucks regardless.

I seen that they were calling it a finalist but then in reading the article on it they really shit all over it, pretty much attacked everything about it. They said that Acura was trying to be too techy like Audi, too soft like Lincoln, and sporty like BMW(?) but that it cancelled out and made the RDX not good. I strongly disagree, it's a great all around product that excels in many areas.

maybe, but I bet the car they review will cost more than 10K over my RDX Tech, plus, the Sensus System has way more usability problems than ours, once you learn it and live with it.

I don't know how much they really focus on value in these reviews honestly, and is it fair to compare a RDX that tops out at 55k CDN to a Velar that STARTS off at 75k? So I'm not sure how much price really matters to these people. Regardless of the winner, it won't impact how great of a vehicle the RDX is to me, though it would be nice to see Acura winning awards for its' vehicles again.

"Trying to make a stop sign is much harder than it needs to be."
Any they always bitch about the infotainment interface. I didn't have any issues figuring out the touch pad and I'm sure it would become second nature in a few days. Every review I ever read about the 2G RDX bitched about the dual screens. Way too complicated for anyone to figure out but for me it is one of my favorite features of the car. Sure, there is a bit of a learning curve but I find the setup very functional and easy enough to use. But then again, I hate touch screens.

Seriously? I test drove a 2019 A Spec last weekend while my 2016 was getting its battery replaced under warranty. We did a pretty long test drive and funny thing is I didn't have any problems "making a stop sign", whatever that means. The RDX I drove seemed to stop fine. Ran great too. Way more fun and comfortable than my 2016.

In terms of the brakes, that comment really stuck out to me too! I was like uhhhhh wait a minute, aren't the brakes supposed to stop a car? They complained that it was too strong....umm yeah ok.

XC60 is good .. even better .. except its NOT made in USA or Sweden. Well.. I can buy my cell phone cover that is made in asia but 50K car???
Its been 6 days in new RDX and I am totally fine with touchpad. I actually like it al lot and way better then regular mouse pad. I can now select my options without moving cursor like typical mouse pad.

My wife really disliked the track pad...as a passenger she finds it very frustrating to use.....we have test drove a RDX 4 times now, so yes not a lot of experience using it, but I think her point is valid, but I'm sure 1 would adjust. I trust reviews from actual users over magazine reviews.....I think they are a lot more accurate and relate more to the common day driver.

Typically, Honda brakes are grabby, and my wife found these brakes to take longer to stop than she expected since she drives an Accord. I find these brakes to be much more like my BMW, and are progressive. I just told my wife to step harder if she wanted to stop shorter, and she did. IMO, grabby brakes give an impression of more stopping power, but it is only an impression.

First test drive I noticed the brakes right off. I think they're plenty powerfull. Maybe they require more pedal travel then whatever the driver/reviewer is coming from. I'm used to them now. Don't even think about it. Wife didn't even notice there was a difference from previous car.
When it works, I think the infotainment system interface is quite good minus the swipe from side to side. My brain thinks it should go the opposite way. That's just me though. I feel like with all these vehicles with a system like this, no one can really get it without a little time parked trying different stuff and getting a little muscle memory. Yes, if you have to look at the touchpad it can be distracting. A little time in the seat and you get the muscle memory on where to press/swipe etc.

well.. I was bit skeptical on touchpad after reading reviews before buying RDX but decided to go with it anyways. The only comment I have after using it for a month is, most of these negative reviews on touchpad are by old gen people who probably are trying to compare it with mousepad. My 10 years old can navigate and use infotainment system like a pro

I find the ACURA touchpad very easy to use once it is set up with favorite AM and FM stations, favorite Sirius stations, favorite navigation destinations, etc.. I did find it somewhat frustrating (and more time consuming than I expected) to actually set up these favorites. But it really is a one time frustration. After that using it is quite intuitive. HOWEVER, I really dislike using the touchpad for Apple Play. It is much more challenging and unintuitive. I wish Apple allowed it to work the same way as the Acura touchpad works. I only use Apple Play for Waze, which I greatly prefer to the in car nav. To listen to music on my phone I just use blue tooth with the phone disconnected so it still uses the Acura touchpad.

Given how intuitive touchscreens are, I don't know why everyone doesn't move in that direction.
Seems like JLR and Volvo (the 2 companies that IMO produce the best looking exteriors and interiors) are the only ones embracing that. Of course, there's Tesla, but I think they are overdoing it by requiring the user to use a touchpad for even the simplest of functions like adjusting vents.

That part stood out to me as well and i wasn't entirely sure how to feel about it. Basically saying jack of all trades master of non. I would say SH-AWD and Value would be what Acura has mastered.

Believe this thread was based on an older Motor Trend article. A new article just came out today comparing the RDX with the Caddy XT4 and Infinit QX50. And the winner is...(pssst, it starts with an "R" )
