Michelin pilot sport a/s 3+
 

Just to let everyone know that as of 7/1, Michelin added the 235/55/19 tire size for the Pilot Sport A/S 3+. If anyone has had these, then you're more than aware that they are night and day in performance to anything stock and Good Year. The new part number is 81227. It has not been loaded in the "what tires fit my car" drop down on Michelin's site, but they are listed on the downloadable PDF. I can only speak on my TLX with SH-Awd, I compare the difference to a sprinter taking a corner with sandals vs track shoes. If this information is worth a black on black RDX Advance, PM me. :)

255/45/20 is $228.97 for A-Spec. That seems unfair.

Can't buy you a RDX Advance, though. I couldn't even afford and Advance for myself.

From my research I was between the A/S 3+, LTX Premiere and Contis DSW06+ (the new model). A/S 3+ had more road noise and less MPG than LTX. And LTX has higher tread wear warranty (but don't last to warranty so there will be a warranty claim for sure ...prorated)

Can someone convince me otherwise?

I'm planning on an A-Spec and want the dealer to swap the crap RSAs before I drive it away...

Had Continental DWS-06 on my TLX. They were great.
I think A/S 3+ might be better but, more expensive.

I'm considering Premiere LTX because I think they're quieter but, they're not high performance.
I hadn't really planned on driving 149+ MPH.

I think they're all good and much better than the awful Goodyears.

I can't speak on the LTX tires, but I can speak on the A/S 3+ and the DSW06+. My friends TLX, imo, has a little more road noise with the DSW's. I got a better deal at Costco, with the $70 off they were offering for a set of 4 Michelins, so I saved a little more than he did. Lastly, I think the dry and wet performance are very close, but I can take turns with less "noise" feedback than the DSW's, but both are solid. They may not be any quieter, or louder, just sound a little different, due to the tread. Lastly, it's just an appearance issue, but I like the way the tread looks on the A/S 3+ better. I've had those tires for a little over a year, roughly 15K+ combined driving. No issues. They truly enhance and show what SH-Awd is capable of.

If it matters to you, The A/S 3+ are made in USA. The DWS-06 are made in Romania.

As posted in another thread, I had these installed on my A-SPEC before I took delivery. No way was I sticking with those crappy Goodyears! The car glides through ramps and turns with these.
So far, I haven't had any rain (or snow) to test them in. (These are, of course, 20's.)

I've had previous versions of the A/S and DWS in the past, and I was quite pleased with them both. No regrets at the time. I have the LTX Premier on my MKX now, and they are definitely the more appropriate tire for this car. If you value comfort over sport, the LTX is the way to go.

Hey HotRodW....great note here! I have them on my TLX, A-Spec and wanted them for my new RDX....and the timing was not quite there. So, I had to put on Mich. Premiere LTX. This LTX was designed for Crossovers and SUV's.
But, I sure like the A/S 3 +'s, on my TLX. They ride great, are quiet and really handle. Tire Rack told me that the A/S 3 + would actually not ride as good as the LTX's. Hmmmm....I would have bought them IF they had already been out
when I had my opt. wheels and tires put on. Missed it by 2 to 3 weeks. But, I still have that thought....would the 3+'s really have ridden harder??? It's still a "car like" vehicle. I've often put so called "car tires" on my CRV's and Gen 2
RDX's.

I dumped my Goodyears....for the Mich. Premiere LTX's. I also put on the optional TLX wheel.....the Black Diamond Cut.....in 19" Put 255/50/19 LTX's to match the diameter of the OEM 20's. Dealer folks really liked the look of these
wheels on my white A-Spec.

My dealer gave me $1K for the OEM wheels/tires. That paid for my tires!

Hows the braking compared to stock?

Love Michelin's and Conti's, got nothing but good things to say about them (Run them on my Audi and my old Mustang)

Now im tempted to replace this shoddy OEM tires....costco has $70 off Michelin right now so as far as i can tell from their website, they would be $884-70=814 + tax & TPMS fee ($2.99/tire)....

Braking and snow traction have been very good with the Pilot Sport A/S 3+'s I have on my RDX. I have almost 14,000 miles on them and we've had snow and ice and I have not worried about tires at all.

I use these on my summer tires, but in the A-Spec tire size rather than the Platinum Elite/Advance tire size. I only had them on for a couple of months before I switched over to my Nokian winter tires, but from what I remember, the Michelins were great. I had Continental DWS-06 on my previous vehicle and the Michelins were a bit quieter and a bit smoother too.

I loved the 19" AS3's on my CL-S.

The performance was phenomenal but as mentioned, they're soft so don't expect them to last too long...

Yes, indeed. I have seen plenty of tires in my day, and those, sir, are tires.

They seem awfully round too! I am not sure I quite like that!

The RSAs have not been bad in the first 8k miles, but we will see how they hold up as the miles pile up. When I switch, I will do the MIchelins or the Contis.

Thanks for the pics. Some tires have a very strange tread which don’t look good and some people do notice. The same could be said for the sidewalls. This is a very nice vehicle with good looking rims, you want nice tires to match. Good choice. Enjoy the Michelin Pilot Sport as3+.

I purchased the Michelin pilot sport a/s 3 plus for my aspec and they make a huge difference in all aspects. They are amazing!

I love those tires, they were the best tires I've ever had on my CL-S.
I had to go with a cheapo the last time around on the CL because the Michelin's were soft and I used 'em up a little fast. ;)

I'm very happy w/my Michelin's on my MDX. Nothin' like Michelin........

I've sworn by Pilot A/S for years, ever since I had them in a SL500. Although I must say the Goodyears that came stock on a new corvette have also impressed me, but not as much as the Michelins.

Edit: saw the OP post was kind of old, but my experiences still remain the same.

From my personal experience, the Conti DWS provide superior traction in Rain and Snow compared to the Michelins, BUT, once I got 20,000 miles on them they were super noisy. The Michelins are always quiet and roll straight, and never tram. So I'm sticking with Michelins.
