Hi Everyone, thinking of buying a 2019 RDX
Greetings from Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Long time fan of Honda and Acura products. Had my heart set on buying a 19 RDX Platinum Elite ( wish these cars were called the same in both Canada and the US). Last week I come across this website and was shocked and disappointed to read not only the number of issues the car had but the poor response from Honda. Since you the membership are much closer to these issues, how confident are you that fixes are coming in the near future? Secondly, would you recommend now to wait for the 2020s to come out with the belief the newer version won’t have the problems? Thanks for your help!

I was at a decision point, so I went for this car. Were I at the same decision point again, I would still do it.
If I did not have to replace my other car, I would have waited, and I still would wait.
So far, I can deal with the various infotainment glitches that have come my way. In the almost six months of ownership, I had two serious infotainment freezes and I was able to resolve them.
Other cars are not perfect either.

I've purchased a small number of first-year vehicles including a 1992 Grand Am, 2017 Ridgeline, 2018 Accord, and 2019 RDX.
The Grand Am was good during the two years I owned it. The Ridgeline was good during the two years I owned it. The Accord tested my patience with the vibrating hood and jerky transmission. The RDX was the straw that broke the camel's back because of all the problems (infotainment, fit and finish, engine vibration, transmission shift quality, noises). I traded it for another Ridgeline which I'm very pleased with.
Based on my ownership experience of 29 vehicles including a mixture of first-year, mid-life, last-year models, I can't say that first-year models have been any better or worse overall - sometimes I get a good first-year vehicle and sometimes I don't. Sometimes I get a bad last-year vehicle and sometimes I don't.
Nothing is perfect, but the RDX was the least perfect vehicle I remember owning.

The 19 RDX (other than the NSX) with brand new body, engine/trans, suspension, and electronic/info-tainment. Usually, Acura/Honda pulls from the parts bin from previous models for more reliability for the 1st year model run. There were a lot of 1st year model bugs with my current stable of Acuras like the 1st Gen TSX (2004), 1st Gen RDX (2007), and 2nd Gen MDX (2007) that were fixed and not duplicated in later models.
If you keep your vehicles under 4yrs/50,000 miles, I'll say go for any model including the 1st year. If you are planning to keep +100,000 miles, I would wait until +2nd model year or even the MMC to let the TSB catch up and fix issues.

I've tried driving other vehicles, but the RDX is a pleasure to drive. Quietest vehicle I've ever owned and drove, and has some really nice features I appreciate. No problems with my vehicle.
The things that pushed me over was that it had a lot of trunk space, is a very safe vehicle and is a good price for the value I get. Those aspects were important for me and my family.
As a person who works on cars with lots of tools... I like how easily things are laid out in the vehicle. If there are any major issues down the road it will be a quick and less painful experience. Changing my oil recently was a nice and easy experience.

I bought a first year 2010 Caddy SRX. It had a number of issues but once they were dealt with over a period of time, the car proved reliable and enjoyable. I have to admit the first year bugs spooked me a bit.

I still own my first-year (2003) Honda Pilot. It has been astonishingly reliable. I guess that's why I still have it. But it's getting long in the tooth and it's about time. I test drove an RDX yesterday and it's leading the pack. Previously tested a Murano, Pilot, Highlander and RX350. My wife insists I also try the MDX. But I'm still thinking the RDX Advanced is the right car for me.

I've visited two Acura dealers for buying purposes - the Richmond Acura sales guy was disorganized and wasn't really that knowledgeable about the car while the Burrard Acura folks (I've talked to a few) were super friendly and interested in helping even when I was early in my research process. They also knew the product well and could walk me through it accurately. Can't say how they are for deal making but I definitely felt like an important customer.
All that said, if you know the price you want to pay (Use CarCostCanada or Unhaggle) you can probably just email all the local dealers with your OTD price and go from there.

When I was shopping around for the RDX, I was dealing with Campus but found them a little tough to get a deal I liked. Always thought they were low balling me on my trade-in. Have chatted with Harmony in Kelowna and they were good to deal with but the logistics just don’t make any sense. Had Campus been a bit more generous, I would probably have bought one. Have also spoke with Burrard and Richmond in your area.

If I were to get another Honda I would get another Pilot EXL. I actually like it better than the Lexus for about 10K less. But I've never used the 3rd row and don't need it. Not to mention, the 3rd row in all these cars is a joke.
The RDX is the clear winner of all the cars I've test-driven. I'll take a closer look at the MDX and visit a couple more Acura dealers. But I don't expect to be swayed. Both the Pilot and the MDX are a bit more car than I need they'd have to be "stuffed" into my garage. The RDX is kind of a sweet spot in size and features. Advance package.
I'm really looking for more luxury this time out. The only reason I was even considering the lower lines is we all know they are becoming so loaded, it's getting harder for the luxury lines to really distinguish themselves.
The RDX is the clear winner of all the cars I've test-driven. I'll take a closer look at the MDX and visit a couple more Acura dealers. But I don't expect to be swayed. Both the Pilot and the MDX are a bit more car than I need they'd have to be "stuffed" into my garage. The RDX is kind of a sweet spot in size and features. Advance package.

Of the SUVs I’ve test drove and given consideration to, the RDX is my clear choice. I will now sit tight for the 2020s to make my move. Hopefully by then the issues will be greatly reduced or eliminated. Thanks to all that have participated in this thread. I appreciated hearing your viewpoints.

Haven't found a single issue with the 2019 RDX yet. Generally, it's not a bad idea to wait for the second model year, but in the case of the RDX, the powertrain (engine & transmission) is already proven in other vehicles. Most of the issue you read about are small things that aren't a huge deal.

No need to wait unless you are trying to use Apple Car-Play. It needs work and will likely give you issues based on reports on the forum. All other issues seem to be minor for most. I have had mine since July and nothing to worry about

I’ve owned my RDX AWD Tech since the end of August. Have about 5,800 miles so far. I have only experienced two issues: Brakes squeal from time to time (which my 2017 also did and were replaced for free). I just haven’t brought it in yet because they’re not as bad as my ‘17’s were. Second issue is my infotainment screen froze once and wouldn’t restart. I drove 15 minutes to my destination and then when I started again an hour later, it was fine. No issue with it since and no other problems. You could get a perfect one or some with challenges—you really never know. I’d say go for a new one now, though.
