Front Seats-Hard on the Back!

We bought our RDX-Advance Package with the 16-way power seats in early June. My Wife and I have tried every possible seat comfort adjustment and continue to have sore backs from even short rides, in both the driver and passenger seats.

Not nearly as comfortable as our 2014 MDX was...we could ride all day without any back pains in that one! Has anyone else had the same problem and solved it? Maybe an after-market cushion/support that you could recommend?

Hmm, odd to hear this. I have back issues find these quite comfortable, even on a 4 hour, 1 stop road trip. I

very odd. My wife and I both LOVE the seats. I would do what you suggested and try and find some sort of aftermarket therapeutic cover/cushion.

I think you probably need to fiddle with the lumbar support adjustments a bit more. The controls aren't especially intuitive.

If the seats feel too narrow, so that you can't get your back in contact with the lumbar support, then try adjusting the side bolsters.

But lumbar support is the key. All the padding in the world won't help if your spine isn't properly supported.

I have a whole laundry list of severe back issues requiring firm support, and I find the seats in our 2019 RDX Advance comfortable. But I also like the seats in our 2014 MDX.

The seats were one of the main reasons we bought the Advance. I’m 6’3” and my wife is 4’11”, and we both felt comfortable in them.

I had the 22 way (I think it was 22) comfort seats in my 535, and I am having no problems in this car.

Drove clear to Chicago and back from Kansas City and never felt uncomfortable in the seats in my Advance. Most comfortable experience I have ever had in a vehicle.

Is it possible that you are not adjusting the lumbar support properly? The adjustments are a bit odd because you don't have individual buttons for each function so maybe you are not adjusting them properly. Being 16 ways means you can practically custom tailor it to your body.

RDX10: Many thanks for the post. 100% of the replies have been very positive relative to the comfort of the seats. I will continue to fine-tune the comfort settings to gain a better fit. I am a senior citizen and may have gotten too used to the fit of the 2014 MDX.

All responses to my post are greatly appreciated.

There's a lot to be said for that. I have a bit of spinal arthritis and I can get comfortable (still tweaking every time I drive more than 10 miles give or take) so there should be hope for everyone. Three hour road trip one way and no discomfort other than what would be expected from sitting in one position for that long.

No worries, I am a lot like you. My back is very sensitive when it comes to car seats (so much so that I tend to have the lumbar support fully inflated to the max setting because I really like the pressure and alignment). Many manufacturers tend to have the seat adjustments as specific controls for each movement, but Acura made it so that you have to press the middle button of the 4-way button on the side of the seats to change the functionality of that switch for the lumbar, bolsters, and thigh support.

I've had BMWS, Audis, and VW's and IME Acura is the only one to get seats consistently right and I've only ever had the standard 10 way seats so these 16 way seats are a even bigger jump.

I dropped it at the Dealer today to get the OEM hitch installed. Also asked them to check the installation/operation of the front seats. My guess is that the seat check will score 100%.

The more adjustments there are, the longer it takes to get it ‘just so’.

That's where the memory seats come in real handy. My wife's not driving the RDX (yet) so it's easy to get a setting I like and save it as '1'. I then keep tweaking and saving as '2' until I'm happier that with what's already saved then save it as a new '1'. If I really screw it up I just go back to the old '1' and start over.

I remember when I did the test drive, that I spent 10 minutes playing with the seat until I got the setting where I got the "AH" factor. This is very important in evaluating the vehicle and should not be taken lightly. I have tweaked a few things, but right now, it is perfect for my height and I never feel uncomfortable now matter how far I drive.

Yeah. It takes a while, but it is worth the effort. In the bimmer, each key had seat position one and two. My wife never bothered with getting it right and never liked it. Then again, she only drove it to spell me on long trips.
