First Wash is when you find the little defects
The first wash of a new car is a scary event because this is almost always when we find those little defects and warts that we hadn't previously noticed. We were pretty lucky, especially since our RDX had been driven for a couple of months by the Dealership GM's wife, and had 2,500 miles on it. Only warts we've found are a teeny tiny dark area (less than 1mm) on the paint and a teeny tiny flaw in the rear window glass (a light colored area, less than the size of the head of a pin). You have to really go looking and zoom in on either of these, otherwise, you'd never notice.
Otherwise, the construction detail of this car is immaculate- every seam perfectly aligned.
What's your experience with the first wash? Was your baby perfect?

Got the car at the very end of Feb and washed it the first time a couple weeks ago. It was pretty dirty from tree pollen. No flaws dents or scratches. Only some residual glue from the adhesive protective coverings. It gleamed when I was done. Gave the windshield and rear window a Rain-X treatment. I think I'll wash it again today and Rain-X all the windows including the sun roof. I wonder how long it will be before I have the nerve to take it through a car wash. Giving it a good sponge bath is getting harder as I get older.
BUG SPLAT!! It got warm here this weekend and more bugs came out. All over the side mirrors and front of the car. That shit is hard to get off.

Yeah, about the only time I hand wash anymore is dealing with the bugs. I'm done with stressing about panel gaps, microscopic chips, and stealth door dings. Sorta.
Turtle Wax Bug and Tar Remover, or an equivalent wax-based product, is good. Less harsh and toxic than old-school solvent-based products.
Just be patient and let the stuff soak. You can also use it as a pre-wash before you enter a commercial car wash.

Turns out I discovered a spray bottle of that in the garage. I have no idea how old it is but it worked great. On bird shit too. It looks like I'll be going through a lot of it this summer. Why the hell did I buy a white car?!!

A) They didn't have a blue one.
B) They could have found us a blue one, but we weren't wild about the grey interior that comes with the blue exterior.
C) We've both had silver cars for 19 years.
D) Wife likes grey and black. I don't.
E) Red is just too....red.
F) Bronze looks like poop.
G) We bought into the notion that white doesn't show dirt. Turns out there are many different colors of dirt!

I was thinking white wouldn't show road salt. But then there's all the dark grit that gets splashed up. Kinda like salt and pepper on a potato. Oh well.
The good news is I still like the saddle brown "Espresso" interior. Package deal.

Found another imperfection on our RDX that I now can't "unsee". The paint on the middle of the edge of the spoiler, where it meets the rear of the roof, has rough, bumpy, crumbly paint job- not smooth like the rest of the edge. On the one hand, it's extremely minor (took me 3 months to notice it), on the other hand, IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A GDMF LUXURY CAR!!!

Ours was built in January, 2019, so they've been turning them out like this for a while!
