Car and Driver slams RDX Aspec

Burning Brakes
Test sheet shows the shift point as 6600RPM. Peak torque range for this engine is 1600-4600RPM and falls off after that. They may have achieved better times shifting around 5000RPM or so to take advantage of the better torque at the lower RPM and making better use of the gearing. It would at a minimum be an interesting comparison.

From this we can see the traction limited Accord (FWD) actually launches harder than RDX which shouldn't be happening and it ends up consistently behind the rest of the way. A BMW X3 does 0-60 in 6.2s and is 250 lbs heavier so I'm going to suggest it was a soft motor this time around and not testing methodology.

Just test drove a ‘19 RDX AWD and it does feel a bit sluggish right off the line if you just stomp on the throttle pedal with no brake torquing. I imagine it needs brake torque to build boost to get the quicker acceleration test times we’ve seen from other tests. Perhaps the reviewer in this article didn’t do this. Quite a bit different feel off the line without brake torquing than the 2nd gen with AWD which would squeal the front tires off the line.

I thought the same thing while watching his review a few days ago. That said - nothing wrong with his method (or lack thereof) if he tests every car the same way. Actually this is a more real-world representation of how most people drive the car and provides a good apples to apples comparison with his other reviews. All that said - I find the reviewer a bit annoying personally

Not enough difference between them.

It seems to me that Acura simply didn’t pay C/D enough money for them to give the RDX a great review.
